Hush Pt. 5

In Gotham City, Terry had followed Bane to a greenhouse where he thought Melanie would be. That same greenhouse was growing Aztec Galia. A plant near impossible to grow indoors. Terry took a random guess but he used what Bruce had taught him in his time. If Melanie was going full Posion Ivy, then she wouldn't be able to abandon those plants.

Katie landed on the new green house and crawled her way inside where, sure enough, she found Melanie.

Katie: Hey there, Melanie. I'm back.

Melanie smiled as she turned around. Katie stood there as her former partner walked into the light. Katie's eyes grew wide when she saw what was happening to her.

Katie: Uh, are you alright? You're looking a little, green.

Melanie: Have you come back to me?

Katie: Uh, y-yeah. It's like you said. N-No one could...resist you.

How did she get this bad? What was going on with her? She looked like Ivy!

Melanie: Yes. But I also know when someone is lying!

Melanie backhanded Katie which sent her stumbling backwards. Once she found her footing, Katie balled up her fists and squared up.

Katie: Okay, bitch! Last straw!

Katie leaped forward and Melanie stepped back to avoid her punch. She was too slow, though. Katie threw a hit and it landed on Melanie's jaw. She then threw a kick that sent Melanie flying into the glass wall. Katie walked over and grabbed her by her throat and lifted her to look at her.

Katie: I don't know what that Jokar guy did to you, but this is over.

Melanie: It doesn't have to be like this. There's plenty of cash to go around.

Katie: Not interested. Though...

Katie placed a sharp claw against the skin under Melanie's chin.

Katie: I wonder if you really bleed green now.

Before Katie could get her answer, she felt something wrap around her neck and pull her back. Melanie smiled as the vine held her in the air.

Melanie: My babies don't like it when mama is getting hurt.

Katie: Air....

As Katie struggled, she found the air return to her lungs as something cut the vines down.

Terry: Melanie. This ends, now. You're coming back to Gotham with me.

Katie: What did you do? Walk?

Terry: Bitch, I flew. Calm down.

Melanie frown before she smirked.

Melanie: So the kitten brought a champion. Good. So did I.

Suddenly, there was a loud thoom sound that shook the entire greenhouse. Katie and Terry looked at each other before it happened again. Terry's eyes grew wide when he realized what was going on.

Terry: Oh no.

He turned to Katie to see the wall behind her start to crack.

Terry: Katie! Get down!

Before Katie could react, the wall came crashing down on her and Terry was thrown back by the force of wind that suddenly filled the room. Terry regained his senses and quickly got up to see Melanie hanging on a new figure.

Terry: No.

Kara: If you want to get to her, you'll have to go through me.

Melanie: You heard her. My Supergirl.

Katie: Ugh.

Terry looked over to Katie who had pushed some of the stone off of herself. She slowly got up and groaned.

Katie: The hell hit us?

Terry: She did.

Katie looked over to the two women and her eyes grew wide.

Katie: Huh. Didn't think Melanie swung that way.

Terry: She has Supergirl under her control and that's your concern?

Katie just shrugged as Melanie leaned in and whispered into Kara's ear.

Melanie: Kill them, Lover.

Katie: Please tell me you have a plan.

Terry: I'd be lying.

Kara's eyes began to glow red as she stared at Terry and Katie. Terry knew Kara and how she worked. Unlike Clark, she was aggressive. Unlike Conner, she didn't hold back. However, her moves were predictable. It would only take her mere seconds before she realized that Terry wasn't going to stand here and fight. He needed to escape.

Terry: Trust me.

Kara's eyes shot out the red lasers. Terry grabbed Katie and dove out of the way as the lasers destroyed the ground. Terry then grabbed Katie and leaped into the hole. Terry carried Katie towards the window and leaped out of it before activating his boots.

Katie: Where are we going?

Terry: We're going for a swim.

Katie suddenly realized that they were heading toward the water and she began to freak out.

Katie: No no no! Don't you dare!

Terry just grinned as he dove headfirst into the cold water. Katie began to panic but Terry pulled out a breathing mask for her. Once she realized she could breath, she hung onto Terry. Terry activated his boots and swam away while Kara flew down to Melanie.

Melanie: You stupid girl. You let them get away!

Kara: I...can't....kill....

Melanie looked at the Supergirl before she grinned.

Melanie: But you will. Come over here and let me remind you why you're on my side.

Back at Gotham, deep underground, two former prisoners of Arkham Asylum walked through the corridors of the sewers towards the main boss's office.

Firefly: I'd love to see his black mask bubble in my flames.

Jane Doe: I'd give him a pass. He did break us out of Arkham, after all.

Firefly: Yeah, but into another prison. His.

Jane Doe: Don't let your ego get in the way of better judgment, Garfield. Our service is a fair tradeoff, whatever it might be.

Firefly mumbled to himself as Jane Doe opened the door to find Black Mask already holding his meeting. Among the people involved were Scarecrow, Mr. Zazz, Adam Bomb, and the Riddler.

Black Mask: Jane Doe and Garfield Lynn's, the Firefly. We are ready to discuss your very important mission. Take a seat. I was just getting to you.

The two looked at each other before they took their respective seats.

Black Mask: Step one has been successfully executed. See how easy this has been so far? Step two won't be so kind. Teamwork, timing, and precision will be crucial to our success. By dawn tomorrow, Gotham will finally be ours.

Black Mask then turned his attention to the two new attendees.

Black Mask: Jane Doe, you made a good impression. Your talents will help light the match to the fuse. I trust i have your corporation?

Jane simply nodded.

Firefly: So what exactly is my mission, Skull-Face?

Black Mask turned to him.

Black Mask: Something you, in particular, will enjoy.

Firefly: Spit it out.

Black Mask gestured to Adam Bomb.

Black Mask: This is Adam Bomb. I'm sure you can guess what it is he does.

Adam Bomb: Your reputation proceeds you, Mr. Lynns. I've often admired the way you light up a room.

Firefly grinned as he shook his new partner's hand.

Firefly: You know what, Skull-Face? Now you're speaking my language.

Katie: We can't outrun her. She's faster than....well, you know.

Terry: We don't need to outrun her.

The two came to a halt in the tunnels that Terry had led Katie to. Terry then walked toward one of the walls and looked at his device. It was hard to get an exact placement given how far underground they were.

Katie: What are you going to do?

Terry began to set the charges on the wall as he explained.

Terry: The Parasite once fought Supergirl and used these tunnels to escape. A lead-lined sewer system courtesy of Lex Luthor.

Katie: Hurray for Luthor. You've studied Supergirl, haven't you?

Terry didn't answer right away. He finished setting the last charge before he took a step back and reached into his belt.

Katie: Oh. So you've studied her, then.

Terry: She can tear us apart without a second thought.

Katie: You're not gonna answer my question?

Terry smirked as he held up a kryptonite ring.

Terry: I've been trapped in the past for almost three years now. Even if I do go back, me and my girlfriend agreed that we would find other people. She knows about Batman. She know my life is always on the line. The limit was a year before we would call it an end and move on. So, yeah. I studied Supergirl.

Katie almost seemed impressed. Terry was always hesitant to tell Dana about his other life but in the end, it was for the best.

Terry: Now, for your part.

Katie: Standard snatch and grab.

Terry: There's three options.

Katie: It has to be the gal. If Supergirl is going to save anyone, it's gonna be the gal.

Terry raised a brow.

Terry: Why's that?

Katie: She seemed nervous around the other two from what I've seen. My guess is that the gal is either a family member or a close friend.

Katie suddenly grabbed the front of his suit and pulled him close enough for her to kiss him. Once again, it caught Terry by surprise. Katie then pushed him back.

Terry: What...

Katie: You might be able to do that later.

The whole system began to shake as someone landed on the streets above.

Katie: Annnnnnd...that's my cue. Good luck.

Katie ran off while Terry stood there. He used to believe in luck. That was before he became Batman. Now, luck became logic. Logic was being able to know what to do in a fight. As the side of the pipe was tore away and Kara stepped in, Terry immediately understood the situation. Without even a second thought, Terry turned around and punched her with the green ring.

Kara went flying back due to the rings effects. Bruce once told Terry to think like his opponents. Deep down, Kara was a good person. She was pure and she loved life. Unlike Terry, she grew up in a good home with a good life.

Kara got up and tried to attack but she didn't account for one thing. It was one thing that Terry never liked to talk about. Unlike Kara, Terry was a streetrat. He grew up in the dark parts of Neo Gotham and he learned how to survive.

Terry grabbed her arm and flipped her to the ground. This was just one of those rumbles he uses to get into. The kind that would send him home with a black eye, a few cuts, and a bunch of bruises. The kind that would get his father to yell at him to be more careful.

Terry never wanted to fight the world. He wanted to change it. To make it better. Every victory as Batman was just another step towards that goal.

Terry: Kara! Listen to me!

Kara reached up and grabbed hi neck but Terry punched her arm.

Terry: I opened the main gas line. If you even spark with your heat vision, you'll blow up the entire block. And you know what building we're under.

Kara turned back to Terry and used her freeze breath to cover Terry's hand, and the ring, in ice. Terry turned to the side and a bright flash blinded Kara. Terry then smirked as Kara went to swing.

Terry: About that gas line....

Terry activated his boots and flew up through the hole Kara had entered in.

Terry: I lied.

Kara's fist instead hit the line, which had switch from gas to electrical last month. Kara let out a scream of pain as the voltage flowed through her body. Terry knew this wouldn't kill her, but it worked as a stun.

As Terry finally found his way to the street, the suit had already gone to work with melting the ice on his already numb hand. Terry watched it melt before Kara burst through the ground.

Kara: You hurt me!

She then picked up a nearby car and flew up as she glared at Terry.

Kara: This ends now.

Terry: You're right. Look up. You can save her, or fight me. It's your choice. Not Melanie's.

Kara slowly looked up to the top of the Daily Planet, where Katie had Lois Lane.

Katie: Hold still! You're a terrible damsel in distress.

Lois: Let go of me!

Lois delivered a hard elbow to Katie's gut which caused her to let go. Lois soon found herself falling off the building as she scream. In a blur, Kara flew up to save her.

Terry know that if needed, Katie could have saved her. Hell, he could've saved her. He was glad that neither of them had to. Kara caught Lois and Terry let out a sigh.

Lois: Kara! No offense, but you look like hell.

Underneath Gotham City, Tim investigated a lead from tracking down a substance attached to one of the note card left behind at one of the scenes.

Tim: The air down here is...toxic. <cough>. No more dead ends.

He walked through the abandoned subway line before he came across a train that was trapped under the rubble of a poorly design frame. He looked at it before he could hear the low whistling coming from the inside. No, that was through the train.

Tim walked up to it and forced the doors open before he found an entrance way to a cave.

Tim: Now, what do we have here?

Tim climbed inside, unaware that someone else was in the tunnel with him.

Tim made his way through the train before he thought about how he got here.

Since Debra found out that Kate was an imposter Batman, and the sudden appearance of a second, Tim had theorized that there was a third. Maybe even a fourth. So he went back and analyzed the note that Debra and Hel had found attached to the thugs.

It had traces of flange grease. It was commonly used to lubricate train wheels. There was also traces of limestone residue which matched the same kind that you had encountered back when you were tracking down the Court of Owls.

There were other compunds but they all led to the same place. And that was here in the tunnels below Gotham. That led him to the discovery before him.

Tim: Holy shit. They made an entire batcave down here.

Indeed. The base that once belonged to the Court of Owls was now a makeshift Batcave. It had all the toys too. His eyes soon fell on the display cases. One. Two. Three. Four.

Four Batmen. There was another. Two others.

Tim: This isn't good. I need to head back above ground and report this.

Tim turned to leave, but he felt something click under his foot. Suddenly, the ground below him erupted and he was sent flying backwards towards the depth of the cave.

Only to be stopped when something grabbed his ankle.

Tim: What?

Tim slowly looked up. His eyes widened when he saw who had saved him.

Tim: C-Catwoman?

Catwoman: Hello, Boy Wonder. I see the city has gone to hell. Shame. I was enjoying my extended vacation. How's my future granddaughter doing?
