Hush Pt. 2

Terry had come to the conclusion that this all may be a wild goose chase. It was almost midnight and Bane was still on the loose. He had been using the sewers to crisscross the city. He must've learned a thing or two from Croc back when he was in Arkham. To make matters worse, Waller was on his trail too.

He sped down the street in the batmobile as the rain grew worse. Jim Gordon had sent out an alert that Bane had escaped meaning no one should really be out right now.

Bane needed the money. Either he'll led you to it, or the person who arranged the whole deal.

Bang!

Terry gripped the wheel as the front tire was shot out. How? The tires were bullet proof. Terry did his best to gain control of the vehicle but atlast, he couldn't. The streets were too wet and he was going too fast. He had to brace for impact.

The car sped toward the railing on the bridge and drove straight through it. The car hit once, twice, three times before it stopped on it's side.

Barbara: Terry? Terry?!

Terry reached up and punched the glass out so he could pull himself through.

Terry: I'm here, Batgirl.

Barbara: What the hell is going on out there?! First you and Debra sneak out to investigate on your own and now....

Terry: Do you have the signal on Bane?

Barbara: What?

Terry hopped down from the car and walked a few feet away.

Terry: Bane has a homing device the size of a hairpin in he fought Batman. Do you have his signal?

Barbara worked on the batcomuter for a moment before there was a hit.

Barbara: Yeah. I do.

Terry: Good. Don't lose it.

He rubbed some stray blood from his mouth and activated his boots which sent him flying through the air.

Three common burglars who are way in over their heads. No escape route, no getaway car, and no plan in case Debra and Hel showed up. Yes, Hel.

Debra was caught a bit off guard when Hel suddenly showed up and told her that she wanted to help her. Debra accepted the help, of course, but not because of the possible underlying crush she may or may not have on the future daughter of Batman.

Hel: They're heading west.

Debra: I don't think so.

Hel: But that way is a dead end.

It was good to have backup that was train under Batman and the others, but Debra was technically one of the others. Maybe. She didn't really ask.

She was also not going to make a move on her former crush's daughter from the future because she was still technically a teenager while Debra has been here for two years......actually she didn't know how that worked either.

Debra: When it comes down to the common criminal, I've been taught to take "flight hysteria" into consideration.

Hel: Flight hysteria?

Debra: The inability to think about your next move. You panic and then you slip up.

The two girls turned the corner and spotted the three men heading into the abandoned building. The three men also wore Clown masks. Not a welcoming sight to either Hel or Debra.

Chasing three armed thugs into an abandoned hospital seems a bit spontaneous as well. The sad truth of the manner was, word got out that Batman was out of the game.

Debra had no idea how the entire city found out but, Terry was carrying on your investigation so that meant Debra was responsible for the street level stuff. Hel decided to join her as well since she wanted to protect her city in place of her father. Thus, Red Hood and Huntress were working together.

If Bruce had taught her anything, Debra learned to always have a plan. Even for death. With great preparation, and some luck, you can take the steps necessary to avoid that.

Steps like watching your steps.

Hel found her foot on a loose floorboard which caused both women to freeze. Suddenly, gunfire rained down on Debra as the man in the next room panicked. 10, 11, 12 bullets. Click empty magazine.

Debra was really thankful that the suit was bulletproof.

Debra: Charge in!

Hel nodded and the two girls kicked down the old wooden door, only to find the three men already taken down and tied together.

Hel: What the hell?!

Debra looked around the room before she found the open window. She walked over to it and looked at the hanging line that the mysterious helper had used to escape.

Hel: What's this?

Debra turned back around and found Huntress holding a note. On it, "I Am Batman".

Hel: Who is doing this?

Debra: I don't know. "I Am Batman"? How did word get out this fast?

That was the question indeed. The two girls didn't have time to question it before their coms went off.

Barbara: Girls, we need backup over at the harbor. Red Robin and Robin are pinned. Think you can help?

The girls looked at each other and nodded.

Debra: On our way.

The Batmobile is fitted with Kevlar-reinforced tires filled with petroleum jelly. Its the same kind of tire used for the president's limo or an armored truck. A blowout is impossible. It had to have been a shooter.

Someone tried really hard to get Terry off of Bane's trail.

They're gonna be disappointed.

Bane found himself looking into the greenhouse where he spotted his target. His grin grew.

Bane: Hello, Gato.

He swung the door open which caused Katie to jump in surpise. She turned around to see the large man towering over her.

Bane: I want my money.

Katie flexed her hand and popped out her claws in case of a fight as she stared Bane down.

Katie: You and me both, muscle head. Ten tricked me and took the money.

Bane: Wrong answer!

He swung at her bit Katie leaped out of the way. Bane instead caught her and swung her over his shoulder.

Bane: I got word in Arkham. They said I would find you here.

He slammed her against the wall and held her by her neck.

Katie: We..<cough>..we've been set up. Ten was supposed to meet me here. She used me to steal the money. I don't have it!

Bane: Then there's no reason not to kill you.

He pulled back his fist, but Terry heard enough. Bane suddenly found something wrapping around his neck as Terry landed on the balcony. He pulled on the rope which slammed Bane to the ground.

Terry: We had this talk, Bane. You're not hurting anyone else.

Terry pulled the line and connected it to another which he aimed out of the greenhouse.

Terry: Catwoman, move!

He fired off the line which connected to the stone wall outside. The line retracted which sent Bane flying towards it as well.

Catwoman took the money from Bane's ransom. Honestly, Terry was a bit disappointed when he learned Katie was leaning back towards crime. Oddly enough, Terry was relived to know that she wasn't entirely responsible. She was just a pawn.

Terry walked over to the dazed Bane as he tried to gather his surroundings under the broken wall.

Terry: Bane, it's after midnight. Trust me when I say, you don't want this to continue. You have to talk to me. Someone is playing us. You, me, Catwoman....we're all just pawns in a bigger game. You have to trust me, Bane.

Bane looked up at you before he reached up for his mask. Slowly, he peeled it off and revealed his face. The toxin in his body wasn't just his muscles. His face was mutated beyond recognition.

Bane: Look at me....look at what I've become...that money was to fix this...

Suddenly, a spotlight shined down on the two men which made Terry's eyes grow wide.

Terry: No!

Pilot: Bane, this is the FBI! You are under arrest! Stay where you are and put your hands in the air!

Bane looked at you with eyes of anger as he stood up.

Bane: Liar! I knew I couldn't trust you! I'll kill you!

Bane lunged at Terry but he reacted quickly by delivering a right hook. As gunfire ran down on the rooftop, Terry leaped away while the rubber bullets hit Bane. Bane swatted some away before he rushed forward and leaped off the building towards the helicopter.

Bane: I'll kill you all!

Suddenly, a net shot out and caught Bane. Now trapped, the helicopters turned back towards Arkham. Bane thrashed around a bit but the pilot hit a button which shocked Bane to unconsciousness.

Terry watched the helicopters fly away with a sigh of defeat. Looks like Waller won. Across the way, an unseen figure watched.

???: All men by nature desire knowledge.

Terry clenched his fists and sighed. Looks like he had a lot more work to do. Even Katie got away in the commotion.

As he flew away, he thought back on you. The city was already ready for open season now that Batman was gone. What no one knew, was that the coming days following your surgery would be the hardest they had ever experienced.

One was investigating a hush whisper...

The other was about to battle for a legacy.

In Gotham City Hospital, you opened your eyes.
