THIRTY SEVEN
THIRTY SEVEN
"LEWIS HAMILTON TO RETIRE FROM FORMULA ONE AT THE END OF THE 2018 SEASON!"
"You have got to be kidding me."
Larissa Cohen stared at the news article that was open on a news app on her phone, in disbelief as she sat in the gym, with her trainer, Lucy, sitting behind her, braiding her hair.
Lewis Hamilton was retiring?
Why hadn't he told her?
She knew that Lewis knew about her being enlisted to drive for Mercedes, but she wasn't supposed to become an actual driver there yet.
That wasn't the deal that she had accepted.
She didn't want to take her brothers place, since all she had wanted to do was to race alongside the Hamilton man, not to take his place.
She knew that he had wanted to beat the record held by her Uncle Michael of having seven World titles, but now that he was retiring, he would not be able to achieve it.
Why would he retire when he still had so many years left in Formula One?
Would people hate her for basically forcing Lewis Hamilton out of Formula One?
Would he hate her?
"Lis, try not to think about it too much." Lucy Appleton attempted the soothe the young girl as she noticed that the Cohen girl was reading the news article repeatedly.
"But he's retiring! He can't retire, not yet!" Larissa's voice became louder, since she didn't want to believe it. She refused to believe it.
As soon as her trainer had finished braiding her hair, she abruptly left the Toro Rosso garage, and made her way to the Mercedes garage.
She needed to hear it from him.
"This better be a lie!"
Lewis Hamilton and Toto Wolff stared up from the ground as they heard the Brazilian's booming voice approaching them.
The two men from Mercedes stared at each other for a moment before they both released a sigh of defeat, knowing that she would find out the truth soon enough.
"I'm already losing Uncle Nando this season, I'm not losing you too!"
Lewis Hamilton stumbled back as the girl pushed his chest hard with her hands, a scowl on her face which reminded him of her father.
"Lis, let me explain." Lewis tried to explain to her, but he noticed how worked up she was, and knew that she was not calming down anytime soon.
"You lied to me! You said that you would always be by my side! You said that you would be there for me and help me but you're leaving!"
She repeatedly pushed him backwards in her rage and anger, betrayal filling her body knowing that once again someone who was her family had lied to her.
Toto closed his eyes for a second before he reached his hands out to grab a hold of her wrists, stopping her from hitting the Hamilton man any more.
"Larissa-"
"NO! You lied to me too! You said that Lewis would be staying! You said that I wouldn't be taking his seat! You both lied to me, for months!"
Larissa Cohen was full of rage.
She felt betrayed by the both of them, since they had both promised her that Lewis was not retiring and that she was not going to be taking his seat.
She never wanted to push somebody out of Formula One.
She did not want to push her brother out of Formula One.
"LIS!" Lewis yelled, temporarily halting her screaming.
"Lis, you have to listen to me, okay. I'm not going anywhere. I'm supporting you, no matter what, but you have to understand what I'm doing."
Larissa glared at him once more. "Yeah, you're lying to me! You're lying to my face!"
"No! I'm retiring because I want to manage you!"
Larissa froze in her spot, her eyes widening as her mouth fell open in shock.
What?
"I'm retiring, because I want to manage you. I want to help you beat your father's record of five world titles. I want you to take my seat in Mercedes and show the world what you can do."

It was the Hungarian Grand Prix.
The last Grand Prix before the summer break.
Lewis Hamilton was due to retire at the end of the 2018 season, as was Fernando Alonso.
Larissa was losing two members of her family, and whilst they had both promised to stay by her and support her, it would not be the same.
They wouldn't be racing alongside her.
It was also, the first time that she was entering a Formula One car since her fireball crash at the German Grand Prix.
Pierre, during qualifying, had done absolutely incredible, getting in to Q3, and had managed to qualify in sixth place.
Larissa, however, had failed to put down a lap time, meaning that she would go in to the last race before the summer break, in last place, at the back of the grid.
"Kid."
Franz Tost patted his rookie driver on the shoulder, in an attempt to comfort her since he knew that she would be angry at not having put down a lap time.
He also knew that she would be taking the news hard about the retirement of Lewis Hamilton, since she hadn't taken the news of Fernando Alonso's retirement well either.
"Breathe, kid."
"No shit, I was just planning on holding my breath until I pass out and die, you know. It sounds like a rather fun thing to do. What a way to end the first part of the season." Larissa snarked, smacking his hands off her shoulder.
She didn't even want to race this Grand Prix.
But she didn't have a choice.
And she vowed to let her anger get the better of her whilst she was driving, not caring if that caused her to crash, or a podium.
She just didn't care anymore.

"Raikonnen is 1.5 seconds ahead, Ricciardo is 6.1 seconds behind."
Her radio engineer, Matthew, spoke to the Brazilian since she was currently sitting in fourth place.
"Fuck off."
"Understood."
Larissa Cohen was storming towards her uncle Kimi, since she was closing in on a podium. Her uncle Sebby was in third and her brother Lewis was in third.
As soon as her car was level with the Ferrari of her Uncle Kimi Raikonnen, they reached a corner, causing the Ferrari to break earlier than the Toro Rosso.
Due to her late breaking, she was able to swoop around the Ferrari and overtake him, before her hand shot out to give the Finnish man the middle finger.
With only three laps left of the race, she had managed to catch up to both the Ferrari of her Uncle and the Mercedes of her brother.
The three of them ended up battling against each other, defending and attacking whenever they could.
Larissa's anger resurfaced as she had overtaken the Ferrari, and was therefore side by side to the Mercedes, and she knew what that meant.
Dangerous driving.
Lewis Hamilton noticed how her driving style seemed to switch as her car was beside his, almost sending him off the track multiple times.
"What the hell is she playing at?"
Lewis could hear Toto's voice sounding through the radio as his radio engineer was pushed out of the way, and he really wished that he could answer.
"I have no idea."
Lewis responded with the only thing that he could, the truth. He had no idea what she was doing, but he noticed how it seemed deliberate that she was ramming his car closer and closer to the barriers or the gravel.
Maybe it was her anger.
Maybe it was the betrayal that she felt.
He didn't know, but he could have sworn repeatedly as her car swerved directly in to his, sending the both of them out of the race as they both spun out.
"What the hell, lis!"
Lewis yelled as he climbed out of his car, seeing her climbing out as if she hadn't just cost him a win and a lot of points.
"What? It wasn't my fault!"
Larissa Cohen shrugged, walking away before the Hamilton man grabbed at her wrist, pulling her round to face him.
"You crashed in to me! You just cost me the win! What the hell is wrong with you? You can't take me out just because I'm retiring! That's not how the world of formula One works!"
Lewis noticed her harsh glared as soon as she pulled off her helmet and balaclava, her eyebrows furrowed together as she scowled.
"Why can't you get it in to your fat, stupid, moronic head that it was not my fucking fault!" Larissa screamed at him, pressing her chest up against his as she glared up at him with a notoriously familiar glare.
The glare of her father.
"You crashed in to me!"
"Not my fault!"
"But you crashed in to me!"
"Not my fault!"
"You crashed in to me because you can't handle people leaving you, can you?" Lewis yelled, anger filling him at having lost a win.
He knew instantly upon the words leaving his lips that it was not something that he should have said.
His cheek stung as her fist collided with his face, sending him stumbling back from the force of the punch.
"Say that again!" Larissa yelled in anger. "Go on, say that again!"
"I-I." Lewis stuttered out, going in to shock of having been hit by his little sister, by the side of the track, in front of stewards, marshals and fans.
"Go on! Say it again, and I'll put you in a grave deeper than what my grandfather put my dad in!"
Larissa screamed at him, seeing him flinch as she raised her hand once more.
"I said that it was not my fault, but Go ahead and blame me! Because I don't want you as my manager! I'd rather have Nico as my manager than you because all you do is lie to me!"
Lewis Hamilton had never seen her so worked up and angry, ever. And he had no idea what was causing it.
He hadn't even been told that Larissa's grandfather, André Santos had escaped from police custody.
Whereas she had.

It turned out, that it really wasn't the fault of Larissa Cohen, that had caused her to crash in to the four time world champion, Lewis Hamilton.
She had been forced to swerve as an animal had ran on to the track.
Lewis had tried to apologise for blaming her and accusing her of deliberately crashing in to him, but found her being yelled at by her team principal.
Franz Tost had been screaming at the rookie driver for over twenty minutes about the way that she handled crashing out.
The FIA were investigating her assault of Lewis Hamilton as well as her so called dangerous driving, but they had already given her a punishment.
One that she thought was full of shit.
She had received a fine of twenty thousand pounds for slapping Lewis, and she also faced a possible suspension for it too.
According to her team principal, anyway.
"Toastie, do you really, honestly think that I give a shit any more about any thing that you have to say? Do you really think that you have any authority over me any more?" Larissa rolled her eyes as the man had finally shut up from screaming at her.
"I'm your team principal, I'm your boss! The least that you can do is respect me!"
Larissa's face scrunched up in disgust at the words leaving the lips of her team principal as she began to laugh.
"Nah, I'm good."
She pushed herself up from her seat and made her way out of the room, hearing her team principal yelling at her as she walked away.
She could only turn around with a smile on her face, and give the man two middle fingers.
She was done.
"Kevin! I'll meet you at your hotel room for drinks!"
