The caverns was a good 7 leagues away from the village. When they arrived Inferno could hear loud laughter. The caverns were dimly lit, and Inferno could see albino catfish lurking in the dark corners. Their skin pale, and sightless red eyes gleaming out of the darkness. 

     "Hey Tsunami!" Inferno heard a cheerful voice say as a mermaid swam up behind Tsunami and gave her a hug.

    "Hey tetra!" Tetra had a soft purple tail with swirls of blue cascading down, her long blonde hair was swept up into a neat bun. She and Tsunami swam off toward a pit in the cavern floor. 

   "Where are they going?", Inferno asked Hurricane.

      "Just watch", was all he said, swimming toward the pit as well.

     Inside the pit was Tsunami and another Merman, one Inferno didn't recognize. He was swinging a sword down toward her head, the dodged out of range. Bring her own sword up to block his next swing, she twisted his sword out of his grasp and slapped the flat of her sword down on his tail. Tsunami lifted her sword in Victory, offering her hand to the merman. She swam up out of the pit, handing the sword off to the next competitor. 

    It sickened Inferno, mer here were fighting for fun. She had to fight for survival back home. "This is sick", she snapped at Tsunami as soon as the orca mermaid swam up to her, "Mer shouldn't be fighting for fun like this." 

   Tsunami grabbed Inferno's shoulders, and pushed her up against the cavern wall, "Listen to me Princess," she said, "We don't fight for fun. We fight to train, if we don't train we won't be good enough fighters to survive. There's a darkness coming, I can sense it. If these mer can't fight they will be cut down. Mer like them are recruited to work for the darkness, if they refuse they die. I don't know how it is where you're from, but in this place you fight or you die." With that Tsunami released Inferno and swam away with Tetra and Hurricane, leaving Inferno alone in the caverns.
