Chapter 3
Inferno had decided to follow Tsunami and Hurricane. The task was proving more difficult than Inferno had expected, the pair of mer were unbelievably fast swimmers. Finally, they stopped, Inferno hid in the shadows. Hurricane was heading inside a house, but Tsunami kept swimming. Inferno followed her to a cave. Inferno reached into her bag and pulled out a grey bracelet with the drawing of a flame on it, she slipped it onto her wrist. While the bracelet was on, Inferno was invisible. She swam into the cave, Tsunami set her bag down on the ground and pulled off the black shawl she was wearing.
The back of Tsunami's black dress dipped low, revealing most of her back. She had several tattoos, and a single long jagged scar that ran horizontally across her back. That tattoo on her left shoulder was a strange symbol, a single line inside of a triangle, with a circle in the center. On her right shoulder was a tattoo of a star, surrounded by flame. There were others, but the light was too dark for Inferno to make them out. Tsunami collapsed on the bed in the corner, and Inferno swam out of the cave.
She swam up to the top of the cave, and settled down there for the night, her mind whirring. Her mother was an orca mermaid. Orca mermaids were rare, and they didn't like to settle down in one place. Probably why Inferno's mother had left her as a baby. Inferno's last thought before she drifted off to sleep was of the symbol tattooed on her mother's left shoulder. It looked so familiar. Where had she seen it before?
