Camille O'Connell was a vampire. There was no denying it now. But had she made a mistake by letting herself turn? She wasn't going to do it, but then she thought that by having forever to live, she could have a chance to help straighten things out in New Orleans. Hell knew the city needed all the help it could get.
But had she made the right choice for herself? Since turning, Cami had been feeling nothing but bloodlust and all kinds of crazy feelings she had never felt before. Klaus told her that because she was a new vampire all her feelings and senses were heightened, but she felt nothing like her old self at all, and that scared her.
Cami jumped when she heard someone knock on her door. It seemed so much louder now that her hearing was so much better than it was when she was human.
"Who is it?" she called, quickly getting on her feet.
"We have not met, but if I may, I would like to help you."
It wasn't a voice Cami recognized, but they apparently knew who she was. Grabbing a kitchen knife, she went to the door and slowly opened it.
There was a man leaning against the doorframe. He was quite tall, with graying hair and something of a malicious glint in his eyes.
"Are you Miss Camille O'Connell?" he asked in heavily accented English.
"Who's asking?"
"I am. My name is Radu. I have only recently arrived in New Orleans, but I have informed myself of things that have happened. I know of your situation, Miss O'Connell. You are a friend of Klaus Mikaelson?"
"So what if I am?" she asked.
"Ah!" He smiled. "You are Miss O'Connell, then, and you are a friend of Klaus Mikaelson."
"Why? Are you a friend of his?"
His face suddenly grew very serious. "Certainly not. I hate Klaus Mikaelson with a...what is it...a burning passion, I believe it is called."
Cami nodded. "You don't speak English too well, do you?"
"I am afraid not. I have not had to speak it much. I am Romanian, and I live alone. Might I come in, Miss O'Connell? I had hoped I could speak with you."
Cami sighed. "Fine. Come in."
"Thank you." Radu stepped into the apartment and looked around. "You are a new vampire. I can tell. How are you this far?"
She shrugged. "Not great. I'm starting letting myself turn was a bad idea."
"Hmm." He nodded. "Well, you got to make a choice, and I do know it is difficult. Not everyone gets a choice. But never mind that. Has anyone been helping you?"
"Klaus tried helping me," Cami answered, "But we're not on the best of terms right now. So, yeah, it's mostly just me trying to handle myself."
"That is no way to be in this situation, Miss O'Connell. That is how it was for me, and I turned out terrible. I am known as the Romanian Terror because of the way I am. I have recently gone into helping people, rather than isolating myself. Perhaps I could help you now."
"You just told me you turned out terrible," Cami pointed out. "And you want to help me?"
"I would like to help other vampires be better than me, especially ones who are turned due to Klaus Mikaelson."
"You know what?" She placed her hands on her hips. "I'll bite. What's the story with you and Klaus?"
"He turned me," Radu replied. "He scarred me in a way that will never be gone. I also knew his father, Mikael. He was...my friend." He sighed and waved a hand in dismissal. "No matter. I could have handled myself in better ways. If you would not mind, Miss O'Connell-"
"You want to help me out," she finished. "I get it. So, is this just about wanting to help people, or is it of sticking it to Klaus?"
He gave her a hint of a smile. "Both. I also would like to think that helping to better other vampires could help me to better myself."
"Okay, you know what?" Cami held her hands up. "It's late, so why don't you come back tomorrow morning, and we can talk about this over breakfast?"
"Well...yes. I would like that."
"Great." She held the door open. "Nice meeting you, Radu. And hey...thanks for coming by. You don't seem like the nicest or gentlest type, but you seem like you really want to help people.:
He nodded. "Thank you, Miss O'Connell."
"No one calls me that, by the way. It's just Cami."
He smiled. "Very well. Goodnight, Cami."
She closed the door, and then stood leaning against it for a minute or two. That was a completely unexpected visit, but maybe something good would come from meeting Radu.
