Chapter 2

Rylene doesn't seem to be impressed at all with Janelle's suggestions, so the latter ends up asking, "Oh, come on, Rylene. Why don't you want to play with Reign? She's a queen. Aya and I used to play a lot with her and our other dolls: Kaelen, Beryl the bunny, Thalia the horse and A-" She must make sure not to pronounce the name Ashli, for that it could trigger an enthusiastic reaction from the girl, who would pretend to gain it there and then. "Aashi."

"Aashi?" asks back Rylene in a suspicious manner. She knows Janelle is lying, but wants to make sure she can play games with her to have her confess. Though, this is much easier said than done, because Janelle has an immediate answer ready. "Yes, Aashi. It's me who decided the name, by the way. Anyway, Rylene, before you decide if you want to play with these dolls or not, do you fancy having a snack?"

That's needless to say, Rylene has strange requests. "I want a sandwich." Before Janelle can cut her off by asking a lot of questions, she specifies, "Oh, not an ordinary one, though. I want a sandwich with fresh tomatoes, iceberg lettuce, ham - the best one, obviously - and cheddar. Make sure you use these exact ingredients. I won't accept anything else."

"Aya!" Janelle is shouting her cousin's name to gain some help. She's the only one who can grant Rylene's wishes and spoil her properly without threatening to cut her throat. "Come here!"

"What do you want?" Aya is scoffing while asking this question. She's beyond annoyed by her cousin's behavior, as well as Rylene's requests. If only that little bitch could shut up... Unfortunately, she isn't willing to back up at all, so here comes another command of hers. "Go and make me a sandwich! Your stupid cousin already knows what I want. Fresh tomatoes, iceberg lettuce, ham - good one, though - and cheddar. In a bun, please. I won't accept anything else. Also, bring me some ice tea. Come on, quick!"

Aya immediately rushes to the kitchen, hoping to find what Rylene is asking for without having to go to the supermarket. Anyway, if she went, her mother would catch her red-handed and, why not, punish her.

Meanwhile, Janelle is unimpressed by the girl's manners, to the point that she reprimands her, "Listen carefully, you little brat. I have no time to waste with you. When your snack comes, just eat and keep your tongue held, for God's sake! Also, why don't you want to play with these dolls? Do you prefer watching TV?"

"Give me the remote control. I want to see what's there." Rylene snaps back at Janelle, then she takes the remote control and starts zapping through channels, though her reaction is always bored and lacking enthusiasm. Better say, she doesn't like anything of what's being broadcast lately.

"Okay. Where the hell is my sandwich?" Rylene's impatience perfectly matches Janelle's will to strangle her, other than her resentment towards Aya for leaving her alone with that brat. Not that Aya is happy of this situation, though. She has many valid reasons to resent her cousin, too.

"It's coming, it's coming. You know how much it takes to make the perfect sandwich." Janelle is hissing, making herself almost unhearable, but she's more than sure that Rylene still managed to catch something of what she's just said. The golden-haired girl is getting on her tits as much as Reagan Brezinka's comments on Aya. Though, at least, Reagan would be a little more prone on apologizing than this obnoxious nine-year-old.

When Aya comes back, she's holding tight a bun, filled with two or three leaves of iceberg lettuce - luckily, there's still some left over in the fridge - gently placed under two slices of tomato, one of ham and one of cheddar. She hands it carefully to Rylene, who, however, snatches it quite ungraciously from her hands.

Aya and Janelle then sit on the leather cream sofa, hoping to have at least a little bit of peace, until Aya remembers that she has to hide Ashli out of the brat's sight, before it's too late. Meanwhile, Janelle is keeping an eye on the little girl, before going back to the kitchen and pouring some iced tea on a glass. She hands it to Rylene, who points out, "Where is the ice? You were supposed to add more ice!"

"I'm gonna add it now. Give me that glass," replies Janelle in a very rude manner. She's fed up of pampering that girl, to the point that, if she could, she'd kick her out there and then. Though, she can't. Doing so would cost her a severe punishment.

As she refills the glass with extra ice, Janelle turns back to Rylene and snaps again at her. "I hope you're satisfied now. So, just have your snack and shut up." That said, she goes back upstairs, where she finds Aya.

"What are you doing?" she asks as she notices that her cousin is closing her wardrobe. "Is there something I should know?"

"Well, to be honest, nothing much," is Aya's reply. She, however, is stuttering and sweating a lot, believing that Rylene could come out at any time without warning. Still, realizing that she's facing her own cousin, she approaches her and whispers in her left ear. "Don't tell the brat, but I've just hidden Ashli."

"Why, if I can ask?" Janelle's suspicion increases as she notices that Aya is crossing her arms and looking down, fearing that Rylene might pop by at any time. However, realizing that she's only scaring her cousin off this way, Janelle pats her shoulder delicately and approaches her.

Aya whispers at her again. "The little brat only like precious things, I guess. And Ashli is more than precious - she's my very best friend-" She cuts herself off as she realizes that Janelle is glaring at her, even though in a not very convincing manner. She therefore corrects herself. "Besides you, of course, Janelle!"

That's actually a lie: Aya has never thought of Janelle as a friend. Better say, she doesn't like her that much. Other than being chatty and overbearing, her cousin also has the tendency to be unreliable when it comes to keeping secrets. And, most importantly, she's friends to the girl who likes making fun of her the most. Reagan Brezinka.
