It was just another day at school but somehow, for Zayn, it was different. He and his friends have walked back and forth the hallways of their school to their classes for how many times now and an overenthusiastic blonde girl would've approached him the first time but there was none. Not that he was waiting though. Really.

"Seems like Zayn's a little bit sad. Are you missing someone, mate?" Louis asked with a smirk on his face. He has always teased Zayn about Perrie since he heard that one time she said she was Zayn's future girlfriend and has never stopped.

All other three of his friends laughed along with Louis, knowing very well who he was talking about. "C'mon mate, just admit it. We know you fancy the girl." Louis pressed on.

Zayn snickered, "I do not."

"Oh, look there she is!" Harry exclaimed, pointing behind Zayn which made him turn around only to find no Perrie there. He was confused for a moment but then he grimaced as he realized what Harry did.

He turned back to face his friends and saw them clutching their stomachs as they laughed so hard there were no sounds coming from their mouths. He glared at each one of them, a little bit harder at Harry and Louis before flipping the finger, "F*ck you, guys."

"Someone's missing Perrie, don't you think boys?" Liam rhetorically asked while looking at Zayn with a taunting smile. Zayn just shook his head without saying anything before turning around and the smile on his lips appeared, not being able to keep it in any longer.

He was sitting on a park bench for hours now. He didn't even know how many hours exactly, he just knew that he was there long enough that if the wedding proceeded, it was already done by now. He was there for hours but the mental battle he was having still wasn't done, and that was the reason he lost track of time. His phone was long shut off, he figured they'd all contact him when they notice he was gone and he didn't want any more voices shouting at him, he's had enough inside his mind. They probably was out looking for him but they wouldn't find him, they wouldn't know where he was -- heck he didn't even know where he was himself. He just drove far away enough to just clear his mind.

He was still conflicted and he hasn't made up his mind yet. He just wished he wasn't a f*cking coward and just married Perrie a couple of hours ago but he was and it aggravated him because he loves her so much. He wished his fear would just leave him alone.

**

It has been two days and Zayn still hasn't seen Perrie that he wondered if she stopped liking him. He didn't know what to feel at that idea but somehow, he just accepted that there'd be no one constantly annoying him. He was kind of saddened by that, but no one needed to know.

"--right Zayn?" Niall asked, "Zayn?" he called out once again when he didn't get a response.

Zayn blinked, "What was that?"

"Aww Zaynie," Louis cooed, walking towards Zayn and patting his head, practically ruining his hair, "It's okay, Perrie will come around."

He swatted Louis' hand and lightly punched his bicep, before trying to fix his hair "F*ck off!"

"Look! It's Perrie!" Harry yelled but Zayn wasn't going to be fooled again. He knew Harry was just messing with him.

He rolled his eyes, "Shut up, Harry--"

But then that familiar sweet voice chirped behind him saying, "Hi Zayn."

And if Zayn's heart fluttered just by hearing her say his name, no one would be able to tell.

He picked up the small box lying beside him and opened it to take a look at the rings that would've tied him and Perrie together for the rest of the lifetime, and there they were mocking him with their infinity symbols. He sighed and picked up the one for Perrie and wondered what it would look like sitting on her ring finger but he knew better, ofcourse it would look good. It was Perrie afterall.

But then it dawned on him.

He would never know what it would look when she wear it. He just lost the chance when he thought running away from his fear was way more important than spending the rest of his life with the woman he loves.

He was an idiot, and he always has been.

**

He turned around and saw her standing there, looking at him with this sparkle in his eyes that once annoyed him but now he grew so fond of. She had her haircut and she wore make-up which made her eyes a grayish shade of blue. He thought she looked beautiful, he always has, but he wouldn't admit that. So he fought the smile tugging on his lips and instead he struggled to look indifferent.

He cocked an eyebrow at her and let his eyes travel from her to the thing she was holding up which was, well it was a tupperware. He looked back up at her with a questioning look.

"I made these for you -- well my mum helped me but that's not the point," she giggled and he thought that was adorable, "--anyway, I made these because I hadn't seen you for two days and I missed you. And ofcourse you missed me, too."

Zayn's friends laughed at that because that was exactly what they were teasing him about, the past two days so he glared at them before they could even think of saying something false to Perrie. But did that ever stopped Louis Tomlinson? Nope.

"Ah, you know," Louis started, sending a smirk at Zayn's way before continuing, "Zayn has been sad these past two days."

Perrie gasped, "Why?"

"Because you weren't around, Perrie. He was wondering where his crush went."

She looked at Zayn with a huge grin on her face and his heart fluttered a tad bit more, "Really?" she asked.

Yes.

"Absolutely not!" Zayn said a wee bit harsher than he intended to judging by the way Perrie flinched. What Louis said might've been right, but he didn't want to admit that to himself right now. He was conflicted and he was annoyed, to himself because what was so conflicting? And to Perrie because she was the cause of conflict.

He grabbed the tupperware containing the pastries she made from her hands and shoved it on Niall's hands before turning back to her. "Thanks but I don't eat cupcakes."

His facade almost faltered when the tears were threatening to fall from her eyes. He almost ran to her and hugged her when she saw hurt she was. But he stood his ground.

She ran away.

"You're a f*cking prick." Louis stated what Zayn already knew.

If he felt the worst regret looking at her distant figure that was running away, no one still needed to know.

He was an idiot.
