Chapter 2
Jason’s POV
“I got it!” My friend Joe shouted and I smirked getting my beer out of my refrigerator. My friends were playing Taken in my living area. One of my geek friends, Druv was trying to edit a video of mine from the last night in the ring. I stopped a little to look at his screen before I groaned looking at the clock. I did have a class in an hour that I can’t miss. Even though it was a Saturday.
I was getting a degree in business and had to get it if I didn’t want my father to stop financing my living style. All of the friends that I made were from the gym or the art department. None of them was pursuing business. I knew they were to fade sooner or later from my life. And, I too wasn't into making relationships for life. Friends were just acquaintances.
Martha, the maid my mom sent with me had her mood sour because of all the friends and girls that keep coming but I only enjoy torturing her. Who told her to keep an eye on me for my mom? I wonder why she tortures herself and doesn’t quit already.
I looked out of my apartment which was listed as one of the most sorted and expensive deals when I was trying to hunt for my place in New York. And, the price I was paying wasn't the easy one too. I had to go and take classes in college.
The moment I get into my class I smiled knowing how everyone gets quiet for a moment when I make my entrance. I hated this professor who loved to torture us on the weekends. And, hated my classfellows more who agreed to attend it.
I didn’t have any friends here. And, if I get paired up with someone I pay them handsomely to do the project on their own. As for participation in the class, I sure knew a lot better than my teacher. My father and his father both knew how to run shit into gold. Also, I never had to read books to excel in my exams. It was something I was made to learn when I was still in school.
It was only in the college that I chose to come to New York. Away from my father. I wanted to be a little reckless, experience life and get wild with my followers before I am left with no choice but to look into my dad’s business. Not showing an interest in my dad’s business was out of the question though. I was birthed to run it. He married my mom so he could have the most beautiful woman by his side. But how my mom could keep him on his toes was another thing. And, the man who could run anything has his authority challenged when it comes to my mom.
I huffed out recalling how I am not returning my mom’s call. I couldn’t help it. She is always trying to lecture me about my content, or the girls I am going out with. I wonder why they can’t be happy that I am not doing drugs. Or buying women. Girls try to get attention and I only try to be humble. Isn’t what they taught me?
My parents are freaking out about how I have thirty-five million followers on TikTok. They hate TikTok. They also think I am giving away too much about myself and being reckless. But when was the last time they agreed with me on anything? The least I could do wasn’t give any interviews as a content creator. And, I don’t. I do try to be not active but it wasn’t my problem if all of the videos or trends go viral.
One of my friends, Zack, was waiting for me outside of my classroom and he goes with me. “What’s your plan for after graduation?” The question wasn’t unusual. I was twenty-two and getting my bachelor's in a month. “Forget about it. You tell me what’s your new challenge idea?” And, he walked slower before suggesting.
“What about you find yourself a new girlfriend? It’s already been a week since Sheila. We do need a new face?”
I recalled a few girls from the last night and told him. “You did get a few numbers last night. Give me one of those.”
Getting a girl wasn’t hard. Getting rid of them was a little work. Even though I try to make it not difficult. I try to clear the boundaries that it is only for fun and I am not looking for any serious sh*t. I know many people are looking for someone to settle with already. I, on the other hand, wasn’t even looking forward to dating for real.
I raced my bike to a restaurant not far from our campus. Zack was following me too. The place had the great barista in the whole town. And, my friend Joe was found here almost every weekend. We were to brainstorm for our next idea for the content but I winked at the first woman who dropped her jaw finding me getting in. I say my mood was instantly changed for the night. I have heard about a new bar opening up and couldn’t help telling my fans I am planning to see it tonight in my Instagram story.
One of the girls came to get my autograph and a few followed her too. And, not looking at her cleavage was hard when she had opened a few buttons of her shirt just before coming to me. Maybe my dad was right. I was more like my grandfather. A typical womanizer who wants to make the most of his college life. Though I still don’t like the word for me.
One of the waitresses came to take our order and I laughed seeing her smiling at me and swinging her body sideways. I do like confident girls but there was no way I was going to date a waitress.
“Ahh…” I heard someone gasp and felt something hitting my feet. It was a pad and a pencil. I was about to pick up the pencil when my head hit someone. “Ouch…” I heard looking up to see two black eyes with long natural eyelashes looking at me. I wonder why I hadn’t dated an Asian girl before. It was obvious she had Korean or Chinese ancestors.
“Thank you,” Her accent was American. I liked how she lost her breath looking at me. I chuckled knowing no one could be not affected. But the moment I looked at Joe he was glaring at me. I narrowed my eyes before titling my head and he was quick to mouth, stay away.
I looked at the girl and checked out her legs before looking at him again with my thumb up propped. Our moment didn’t go unnoticed by our other friends and they laughed too with me.
“I am sorry…can you repeat that.” She asked and I looked at her. “She said mocha with extra cream,” I replied and I did notice her back getting stiff but she didn’t turn around.
She left and Joe started as if he was waiting to burst. “Hah! She is not your type, Jason. Steer clear,” And, I looked at him before punching Zack’s fist that he got up in the air. “We can test it,” I said before looking at the waitress who was waiting at my table. “What’s her name? The waitress who was…” But before I could complete it she told me. “Your friend is right. She isn’t your type.” And, I wonder if she is blind. No girl could say no to me. Didn’t they notice how she was flustered too?
“Either you don’t know me. Or you are jealous that I asked about her.” She looked at me with her gaping mouth before she stormed off.
“Can’t you stop it for once? She is…” Joe started and I looked away to find the same waitress coming out. Her skin would glow and it seems she had been waiting around the tables for a long now. She seemed a little worked up. I wanted to catch her looking at me but she didn’t for once. And, now she had my attention.
“Quit trying, Jason,” Joe's voice came again and I looked at him.
“You wish,” I got Zack’s hanky and eyed Joe before getting that girl’s attention making my deep voice even deeper. “I think you dropped this.”
She turned to look at me. Her lips turned into a smile and her cheeks turned a crimson red. “It’s not mine,” She said and my friends hooted. A pride etched at Joe’s face and I looked at that girl who smiled at me as if I was nine year old.
The girl left leaving me humiliated. “I told you,” Joe told me and had his eyes following that girl. And, I too looked to my left. I wasn’t sure if I was going to join my family’s business after two months. But this girl was sure going to be my next girlfriend—this hanky girl. And, I smiled at how this name would suit her.
No matter what, my friends weren’t letting me off the hook for this one the whole evening. It was not every day that they get something on me and I was letting them have their laugh. Because I will be the one to have it in the last. Oh god, I love endings.
I was getting into my apartment when I got a call from my granny. And, it wasn’t every day when she calls me. Was it sixteenth October?
Fuck, I know how she is not so easy to deal with when I forget her birthday.
“Happy birthday to youuuu,” I said getting into the apartment and she laughed. “That’s not going to cut it. I want you here for the breakfast.” She told me. Well, it was because she never invited anyone for dinner. And, run around the clock. For her, the breakfasts are the most important and I couldn’t help wondering how it was a great start for the Sunday.
“Of course, I will be there honey. Tell me what you want for your birthday present.” I asked and she smirked,
“I want you here on the breakfast table. Exactly at seven O’clock. That will be my present.” And, I nodded, “Well, a man gotta do what he has to do.” I phrased one of the things my grandpa used to say. It has been six years since he breathed his last.
“Oh, yes. You should come. I will be waiting for you, sweet bun.” I got off the call and found a message from my aunt, Sabrina that reminded me about my granny’s birthday. She was my father’s only cousin and relative. And, was a famous lawyer.
I booked a business class for myself and was about to board when one of my granny’s personal assistants reached me. I know he didn’t see me rolling my eyes behind my shades. I wonder why granny had to send a plane to get me. I knew I couldn’t say no when she had already done things for this arrangement. I was walking out of the airport to get to my granny’s private hangar here which wasn’t too far from this airport. But someone bumped into me when I was getting out. “I am sorry,” She yelled and I turned around only to find a girl running into the airport. Her big blue ribbon was the only one that caught my attention before I gritted.
“Idiot,” I hated the people who couldn’t be on time. Maybe in the end I too was a Wilson who couldn't stand clumsiness.
The flight wasn’t long and I was in for another surprise when I landed. A Pagani was flashing in all its might. “Come on,” I walked to the baby and shook my head. It wasn’t my birthday that she was gifting me this.
I raced my new car to the county. The Potomac area where my granny decided to live after retirement was though expensive but had the best coffee shops and parks. The place mostly had old rich people living with their achievements. Every other house in the lane was built like a palace to let its residents not feel any less than royalty.
The huge iron gates were opened for me and I pulled into the driveway to be welcomed by the butler. “Mr Wilson, your granny informed me about you. She will see you in an hour at the breakfast table. At seven O’clock.” I looked at my watch and realized I did have some time to upgrade my gift. I only brought diamond earrings that now seemed insufficient seeing her gift of a million-dollar car.
“Yea, fine…is my bike still here?” I asked to which he narrowed his eyes but I ignored him. I got my bike out and only four houses down I found a girl that without any doubt was that waitress. She got her bag out of the taxi but soon two dogs ran towards her. She smiled when one of the dogs jumped at her and I smiled looking at her ribbon. She was the girl who hit me. Wasn't she?
I looked at the house and knew in an instant who they were. It was Mr. Park’s house. He used to be my grandfather’s friend. I had been there to attend a boring birthday too. The one I didn’t want to go to.
And, I already had met the whole family. It had two daughters of Mr Edward Park. Of course, she wasn’t a Park. Or why she would be working in a café. But it was like a chance given to me. Or maybe when I get back to the university my friends were in for a surprise. Especially Joe...
