Chapter 10

Jenny smiled in her sleep holding the hand on her belly and shifted her side to face his blue eyes. A naughty smile was playing on Jason's face and she could not help returning the kiss he came to place at the corner of her mouth. “Good morning wifey,” His husky voice resonated within her and she could not help stirring. She got her hand on his strong and warm chest and smiled biting her mouth. “Good morning,” But moaned when he came over to her in the next.

Her face bathed in his warm breath but she groaned feeling a flash at her face. “Ah,…”

“Wake up!” Stella was standing in her room and she blushed rolling her eyes at her dream. Jason was surely driving her crazy. He could escape into her dreams anytime. He was doing something to her brain. She checked her phone but there were no messages from his side. Not that it was a regular thing anyway. But since they were living in different places he used to leave her a message anytime he get to.

It was a little hard to believe that it was her wedding day. She was excited enough to the point of missing her breakfast. And, how Stella kept repeating some of the stuff about the wedding had her unsettled too. Some of the distant relatives who have flown from Korea to attend her wedding were still sleeping. Stella and Jenny drove the car to the wedding venue with two bags. Her dress was already there.

Jenny could not help smiling when she first looked at the venue setting. The staff seemed to be finishing the arrangements and she could not help but click a picture and send the picture to Jason.

“Girl, they are doing their job. We gotta get you ready. Did you hear me?” Stella snatched her phone and got her to the bridal room where three stylists were waiting for her. One of the photographers was on time too and Stella was the first one to get some pictures with her.

Jenny wanted a simple look. Her dress was off-shoulder, pure white and came with a humble train. “You look so pretty. The prettiest bride ever.” Stella smiled and Jenny was quick to ask. “Is Jason here?”

“I don’t know but many people are sure here,” Stella replied nonchalantly. Jenny didn't have many guests to invite but Jason had told her that he would like to give his parents the liberty to invite as many as they wanted.

“Give me my cell phone,” Jenny asked her but then spotted her phone on one of the sofas and picked it up. There were a few messages congratulating her on her big day but the one that caught her sight was the one with her medical reports. She clicked on the link and was redirected to the online reports that had a red line at the end indicating she was three weeks pregnant.

She lost her balance a little before she read the line with much horror. She remembers Jason using the condom when they were doing it. The only time when she wasn’t in her senses was her first time. Did something happen back then? Her mouth got dry and Stella was quick to ask.

“You look like Jason had called off the wedding.” And, Jenny groaned. “It’s…” There was no way she could tell this to her. In fact, it was for the better that she keep this talk for later. It was a big day for her and Jason too. And, she didn’t know how Jason was to act on this news. She for herself didn’t know how to perceive this news. She had dreamed of a family but it was surely coming way too soon.

She exhaled audibly. Don’t worry Jenny. It’s not like you can’t afford a baby. This baby is a blessing. If we two are marrying young it's because we both can support a family.

She looked at the picture of the venue she had sent to Jason two hours ago but it hadn’t even reached him let alone gotten a reply. She shook her head realizing he must be busy with the family shots. Jenny got a little excited about the family portrait she will get to have with Jason’s family today. The interaction with Aunt Clara made her relax a lot.

Jenny posed with Stella holding a delicate bouquet in her hand while Photographer was quick to ask. “Where are the rest of the bridesmaids? I was told of four?” Instead of replying to the photographer, Stella looked at Jenny.

“Isn’t it strange? Your cousins and Kiara haven’t reached yet.” Jenny got her phone and dialled Kiara only to find it switched off.

“Well, the more strange part? The groom is not here yet. The wedding is to start in half an hour. My crew is shooting the general guests.” The photographer replied and both girls shared a glance. Stella was quick to walk out while Jenny tried for Jason’s number this time. It was a little strange to find his phone switched off too.

She only realized now that she did not have Mr and Mrs Wilson’s numbers. But recalling how she had Thomas’ number she tried for his number only to find it switched off too. She breathed out to calm herself and started removing the train of her dress. One of the stylists helped her out and she smiled, “Thank you,” before walking out.

She was about to walk out of the community hall when she found Stella coming to her. “Why are you walking out? He will be here.” Jenny glanced over the guests and there were for sure many.

“Is Mr and Mrs Wilson here?” Jenny asked,

Stella shook her head but was quick to mention. “But a lot of their guests are here. They are sure to come.” Jenny nodded narrowing her eyes.

“Of course, he will be here. But what took him? I hope everything is fine.” She said the last of it looking at the venue. But then a smile spread over her face realizing the wait was worth it. And, at this point, he was going to be here anytime soon.

“Let’s go, Jenny,” Stella told her and she turned around keeping her hand on her belly. She knew they had an unexpected guest attending their wedding too. It wasn’t a planned one but it was here to share the most important day with its parents.

They only took a few steps when they heard a female making an announcement. “Ladies and gentlemen, I apologize for your inconvenience,…” Both girls turned around and Jenny got her eyes narrowed realizing she does not know the speaker. “…the wedding has been called off by Jason Wilson for reasons he is not ready to reveal yet. We request you to not wait here anymore…” Jenny walked out at once for the altar. “Who are you!” Jenny demanded when she got a little closer and Sofia was quick to offer a professional smile. “I am Mr J. Wilson’s assistant. He asked me to make the announcement so the guests don’t have to wait.” Jenny took the mic from her hand and switched it off before gritting. “Shut up and ask him to talk to me!” She was about to dial for Jason when a few guests walked to her asking.

“Is everything fine?”

“Why is it so?”

“Why Jason called it off?”

“Did you two fight?”

“Is it postponed or called off altogether?”

"Thank God, I mean who will marry her?"

"I told you it was the same girl he was doing in the leaked video?"

Jenny felt nauseous finding many people standing with their phones in the air. The commotion got louder and anxiety was apparent in the crowd. Some faces could be spotted with a laugh on their faces. It was apparent they were loving the drama they get to witness.

Jenny shivered and looked at the men and women she barely knows. Only a few tables away she could spot a few distant relatives of hers who stood there disappointed at the turn of events. “I don’t know yet.” She whispered but the moment she found more people hoarding to the alter she shouted. “I don’t know! I…” Pressing her hand against her mouth she ran into the community hall.

Getting the keys to the Rover she raced the car to his grandmother’s. Hot tears trailed down her cheeks. The betrayal was stinging. She was fucking waiting for him. And, he did what? Called off their wedding! She was literally pregnant with him. But then she cried harder realizing she was pregnant with him. She could recall everything was fine until last night. For a moment, she got genuinely concerned but then writhed wondering if she wasn’t even worth a call. She punched the steering wheel several times before shrieking louder. Keeping her focus on the road was getting hard.

She pulled in front of the huge iron gates. The guards did not let her in but were kind enough to tell her Jason flew back to New York. She raced the car to the airport and booked a flight to New York. While waiting for her flight that was scheduled in half an hour a piece of news flashed on the TV. The Park enterprise announced bankruptcy. She blinked seeing her uncle getting out of the headquarters and getting into his car.

She couldn’t help but suspect it had something to do with her wedding too. She breathed heavily pulling her hair back. Didn’t her uncle tell her everything will be fine? Did Jason leave her after learning this news?

She shook her head a little. He can’t do this. He never knew who I was when…

She recalled the first time he called for her attention holding a hanky in his hand. “No, it can’t be the case.” She whispered under her breath. "He can't leave me because of bankruptcy news?

Hot tears trailed down her cheeks but she kept her face to the window as she took a cab back to his apartment after landing.

She wonders how he could do this. A flurry of rage took over her when she recalled a lot of people looking at her. It was his guests mostly. And, the image made her wonder why he would invite so many if he never intended to marry her.

She walked to the apartment and typed the password only to stare at the words access denied.

She was writhing in pain when she yelled, “You can’t do this with me. Jason!” She banged the door even harder. "Jason!" She broke into sobs wondering if he was there or not. “Please, please…how could you?” Her lips shivered in angst.

“You can’t do this with me, Jason!” She sobbed only for someone to tap her heel on the floor. Jenny seemed to be ignoring the signal and invited a voice.

“He isn’t here!" Jenny turned around and looked at Aunt Clara’s dress. She seems ready for the wedding. Then, why she didn't come?

“Aunt Clara! Why? How can he do this with me?” She couldn't hold a sob. There were three thousand people at the wedding. And, he only sent his assistant to announce there will be no wedding. Betrayal and shame were stabbing her chest. Aunt Clara too seemed to be heaving with anger. Jenny wonders what she did to earn it.

“You and your uncle brought it on you! You two are nothing but liars!" Mrs Wilson gritted before catching her wrist. She started dragging Jenny to the elevator. Recalling the news she wonders if she somehow was to blame. But there was nothing she knew about her uncle’s business. She knew nothing about what brought that bankruptcy.

Jenny too took a few steps after Mrs Wilson before she resisted. “Ah...I didn’t know anything about it. Please? I have to talk to Jason. I am expecting. He doesn’t even know.” This made Mrs Wilson stop. She slowly turned around to look at her. Jenny could spot a smug smile on her face. Jenny knew she had to let her talk to Jason. Or how it was to work out?

“We don’t want to do anything with you…” The words were no less than a cold ice bucket on Jenny’s head. “…you better leave. Or I will have to call security.” Saying this she opened her purse to throw a few bills on her face. “Get it aborted for all I care. There is no way we’ll have an heir from a bagger like you!”

Bagger? The word rang in Jenny's brain. Was it about this?

Jenny looked at her bridal dress in horror and hiccupped. She could still feel all those embarrassing stares from her wedding venue, those laughs and sneers. It really did happen. It wasn't a nightmare. It was all too real. And, no matter how hard she tried to believe in Jason or what they had. The reality that he stood her up at the altar without giving her a chance for an explanation could never ever change.
