Leave, Then.
Taehyung picked up his shoe that had been laying around the dorm and chucked it at Jin. "I hate you and all of your stupid rules!" he screamed at his hyung.
"They wouldn't be such a problem if you'd just listen! Is it so wrong of me to want everyone to be in charge of picking up their own shit?!" Jin screamed back, his face bright red and full of anger. He was sick of Taehyung and Taehyung was sick of him.
The two had been fighting for a few days now. The others tried not to get involved, and it was to the point where even if they wanted to they wouldn't know how.
Hobi decided to at least try, however. "Tae, It's just a few chores. It's not that bad."
"Says you!" Taehyung screamed at Hobi, "He's not up your ass about always doing chores!"
"That's because I don't have to be! He doesn't whine, bitch, and complain like you do! If you just helped out a little when asked it wouldn't even be an issue but every time you're asked to lift a finger around here you cry like a baby about it! We all contribute to keeping this place clean Taehyung!"
"It's not even just that! You're full of rules! Not just the cleaning! You're always like 'go to bed now' or 'put the phone away' and blah blah blah! I'm sick of it! I'm sick of being told what to do! I didn't move in here to gain another parent. I moved in here to be free and you're making that really hard!" Taehyung was in tears because of how angry he was. Hobi shut his mouth, not only because he didn't know what to say but because he also couldn't believe how disrespectful Taehyung was being to the oldest. Hobi turned to the rest of the members who were awkwardly standing by and they also had their jaws dropped in disbelief.
Even Jin had to pause and take a deep breath to control the rage inside of him.
Before Jin even had the chance to say anything in response, Taehyung crossed his arms. "I don't want to live here anymore. I want to move out. Actually, I'll see if Kin-Jung will let me move in with all of them instead!"
Jungkook immediately stepped forward, panicking. "What?! Move out?! Hyung you can't move out!"
Yoongi also interjected. "And not to mention why the hell would you want to go live in the dorm with Kin-Jung and his group? The one time we visited them, the place was an absolute dump!"
Namjoon and Jimin also agreed that it would be a terrible idea.
"At least there are no rules there! I can do what I want! Go to bed when I want! Be as lazy as I want!" Taehyung yelled. Everyone looked at Jin waiting to see what he'd say.
Jin was frozen for a moment and then clenched his fists. "Leave, then."
"What?!" All of the members yelled in confused unison.
"Just like that?!" Namjoon waved his hand in the air, "You're not even going to try to stop him?!"
Taehyung was already on the phone with his friend Kin-Jung, who was the leader of another group of 3 members, bitching about Jin and asking to move in.
"Well I sure as hell won't stop him! If he wants to leave then go right on ahead!" Jin was staring at Taehyung, trying to hold back his tears of frustration. "I wouldn't want to be considered a controlling hyung who is holding you hostage or anything! He's right everyone, if he wants his freedom, then he can go ahead and fucking have it." Jin stormed off, shoulder-checking Taehyung as he marched by and slammed his bedroom door shut upon entering.
"He said I can!" Taehyung screamed at Jin through the door. "I'm moving the hell out of here! And I'm doing it now!"
Jungkook and Jimin both grabbed on to Taehyung as they burst into tears. "No!" Jimin screamed. "You can't move out!"
"Please hyung! I want all my hyungs under one roof! Just ignore Jin if it's such a problem but please don't leave!" Jungkook pulled Taehyung into a hug and started sobbing. "I want you living here!"
"None of us want you to go, Tae." Yoongi stepped forward and started rubbing his dongsaengs back. "It's a stupid fight. Don't make any impulsive decisions like this while you're angry. Maybe take time to cool off first before deciding something like this?"
Namjoon and Hobi were soon also surrounding Taehyung, asking him not to leave and if he could please try to work something out with their hyung. They weren't taking sides. They felt like both Taehyung and Jin needed to have a proper, mature conversation without fighting but at the moment they were clearly both being stubborn.
"Jin wants me gone. I'm sure of it," Taehyung replied as he hugged his members back.
"That's not true and you know it. Of course he wants you here. He loves you. He's just being prideful at the moment. And so are you," Namjoon replied. "Don't move out."
"I'll be Jin's bandmate but I don't want to be his brother anymore!" Taehyung screamed loudly enough to make sure Jin could hear him. "And I'm leaving today!" He shoved the others off of him and ran to his room, throwing all he could into his backpack. He texted Kin to come and get him, saying he was all packed and ready to go.
Jungkook ran to Jin and begged him to tell Taehyung he wasn't allowed to leave. "Just force him to stay if you have to! Please hyung! He's packing up and leaving and I don't want him to! I don't want him to go!" The youngest couldn't keep up with wiping his tears.
"I'm standing by what I said. If he wants to leave then he can leave!"
"Do you really mean that? You really just don't care if he moves out of here?" Jungkook's teary eyes went wide.
Jin didn't answer immediately. He didn't know how. He paused for a second. "I'm not changing my mind."
Jungkook threw himself into Jin's arms and buried his face into his chest, begging and sobbing for Jin to go tell Taehyung he couldn't leave but Jin refused to budge. He told his maknae to calm down. "It's not like he's leaving the band. You'll still see him everyday."
Jungkook cried about how it wasn't the same, and then ran back out of Jin's room when he heard Kin show up and heard the others saying bye to Taehyung. His members still tried to convince him to stay, Jimin and Jungkook still full of tears.
"I'll see everyone at practice tomorrow." Taehyung threw on his backpack and told Kin he was ready to go. "I'll get the rest of my stuff some other time. Right now I just need to get the hell out of here."
As he was walking out Hobi realized Taehyung had left his inhaler on the kitchen counter, so he ran and grabbed it. "Wait!" he threw it at Taehyung. "Please be .." he looked at Kin, a bit accusingly knowing that Kin wasn't exactly a great hyung. He looked back at Taehyung. "Responsible, Tae. Just be smart about things."
"Okay." He gave Hobi one last hug before leaving. The others felt their hearts sink watching Taehyung walk out the door, but all of their efforts and words to convince him not to go proved useless. Taehyung had left. He was really moving out.
"All over a stupid fight? This is bullshit," Yoongi scoffed as he retreated to his room. Everyone was depressed and tired after all of that so they all went and layed around the dorm. Jungkook and Jimin curled up in bed together and cried. The place already felt way too empty without him. Jin didn't come out of his room to say goodbye to Taehyung. He was still too angry. I'll see him at practice anyway.
Over the next few practices, Taehyung and Jin didn't even speak to each other. They did their thing, but separately. At the moment the brotherhood was broken and they were acting more as business partners. The others didn't give up trying to convince them to work things out, but Taehyung said he was having a great time living with Kin and the other members of that group.
"We don't even have bedtimes!" Taehyung smiled.
"Is that why you're being slow and have dark circles under your eyes?" Hobi crossed his arms. He had noticed Taehyung lacking a bit during practice the past few days, and the boy looked exhausted. "What time did you end up going to sleep?"
"Lacking? Since when am I lacking? And I went to sleep when I wanted to, that's when."
Hobi explained all the misteps Taehyung had been making that day and Taehyung played it off like Hobi was just imagining things.
After practice Jungkook clung to Taehyung so he wouldn't leave. Taehyung invited everyone, except Jin, to come over to the new dorm any time but none of them wanted to. They personally didn't like Kin or the other members of Kin's band all that much. They didn't even know why Taehyung was friends with them.
"Orrr...you can come visit us, at our dorm, whenever you want. Just because you moved out doesn't mean you can't at least come by," Namjoon suggested. Taehyung refused and before everyone knew it they were parting ways once again.
At Kin's dorm, Taehyung had gotten home a little later than everyone else. The first thing he did when he entered was trip over someone's shoe. He kicked it aside and realized a ton of shoes were scattered all over the place, and without even realizing it, he was annoyed just by the sight of it.
"Would it kill you guys to put these somewhere where they won't possibly kill me?" Taehyung whined.
"Yes," JiJi replied, laughing. He was another member of the group. Once he started laughing, Kin joined him, as did the last member, Guya.
"It's not funny!" Taehyung yelled. He went and sat down on the couch, which was currently his bed. He didn't have his own room or bed as the place was small, so the pull out couch was his for now. He looked around and saw dirty clothes everywhere and noticed the place was starting to smell bad. He asked the others if they wouldn't mind doing some of their laundry and once again they laughed at him.
"We live to the beat of our own drum here, kiddo." JiJi ruffled Taehyung's hair. "Feel free to do our laundry for us if it bothers you that much."
That was the last thing he wanted to do. He sat there and thought about how at the BTS dorm, it was a rule to always put your clothes in a hamper, at the very least. Most of the time Jin just did everyone's laundry out of the kindness of his heart. Sometimes Hobi would help. Taehyung tried to shake the thoughts out of his head. He didn't want to think about Jin.
That got a bit harder as the days continued.
Everyone was always up all night being loud and obnoxious, to the point where Taehyung would beg and cry for everyone to go to bed so he could get some sleep before practice. Hobi had been on him a lot lately about how sluggish he was being and the others would mention how tired and sick he was starting to look. He'd also lost a few pounds because he wasn't eating much at his new place. He didn't know how to cook. Apparently neither did the others. It was fast food every night but Taehyung got so sick of it he'd resorted to ramen noodles and nothing of nutritional value. Then the food got boring so he'd started to skip meals altogether. What he really missed was a big, hot, home cooked meal.
Something Jin would make every single night.
Stop thinking about him! You're mad at him, remember, Tae?
One day at practice he was feeling especially bad. He wasn't sure if he was getting a cold or the flu or what. He was congested and sneezing, coughing a lot, he had a headache, and his stomach hurt. He was extra reliant on his inhaler, more so than he'd ever been since even debuting with BTS. He would only use it when the others weren't looking, he didn't want them to worry.
He had a good idea of why he was feeling so cruddy. He knew it was probably due to the fact that the dorm was always a complete mess and honestly a bit of an unsanitary living condition. Not to mention he was malnourished a bit at this point. He was also dehydrated, not drinking any water at the dorm because the water had a weird taste to it. Taehyung asked Kin to call a plumber and he said he'd get around to it but he hadn't seemed to bother.
Whenever anything at BTS's dorm was broken, there was one person who called for help right away. Jin. It was always Jin. He took so much pride in being the oldest he felt it was his duty and obligation to make sure everything and everyone was always taken care of. But him and all of his stupid rules!
The members had grown increasingly worried. The only one who didn't ask or show concern was Jin. But everyone else brought up Taehyung's raspy voice, his sunken eyes, his pale skin.
Hobi pulled him aside. "Taehyungie you're looking really sick. Is everything okay over there?"
"Everything is fine." He avoided his hyungs eye contact. He didn't want Hobi to see right through his lie.
"Are you taking medicine? You sound like you have a cold or something. Are they taking care of you over there? Are you getting enough rest? Drinking enough water?" Hobi asked.
"Yes," Taehyung lied again. Hobi could see Taehyung's inhaler poking out of his pocket.
"Are you okay?" The dance leader asked, pointing to it. "Are you having trouble breathing?"
"No." It was hard for Taehyung to lie that time because he immediately choked over his word and fell into a coughing fit. The wheezing in his lungs practically echoed through the dance studio. Everyone ran to him.
Even Jin.
"Are you okay?" Yoongi asked. Everyone immediately expressed their concern. Jin was standing by, but still hadn't said anything. He watched everyone else take the lead on this one. He didn't know what to say to Taehyung. He figured if anything, Taehyung doesn't even want him saying anything.
Taehyung let the members hug him and admitted he wasn't feeling that great, but lied and said the group he was living with was taking good care of him. He still didn't want to give Jin the satisfaction of him admitting something he'd been trying to suppress for days now.
The fact that he wanted to move the hell back home.
Hobi let Taehyung leave practice early to go home and rest, and while he was walking out he overheard them discussing them going out to their favorite restaurant for dinner.
Jin's treat.
Taehyung ran out of the practice room before the others noticed his tears form. He got back to the dorm and was happy to see he was back before Kin and his group. He plopped on the couch, curled up under a blanket, and bawled his eyes out. He quickly realized this isn't what he thought he wanted. Freedom, sure, but at what cost? He actually began to miss having a big brother like Jin. Kin-Jung was older than him but he was useless as a hyung. Something he remembered Hobi mentioning before.
He cried for hours. Wanting to go home, his heart torn and hurting, but not knowing how to fix things with Jin. He figured the oldest really wanted nothing to do with him anymore. The two hadn't even talked to each other at practice since who knows when, and he noticed Jin never seemed all that concerned about him the way the others did.
It was late at night when the others got back, and they came into the dorm rowdy and obnoxious, abruptly waking Taehyung up from the sleep he had fallen into. He pleaded for them to be quiet. His head was pounding, his lungs hurt, his stomach was churning.
Nobody listened. He asked if he could take someone else's bed in their room if they were all going to be loud out in the living room, and he was told no.
After more pleading and tears, he couldn't take it anymore. He shot off the couch amidst a complete mental breakdown, grabbed his phone, and ran outside. He ignored the fact that it was freezing outside and torrential downpouring out. He wanted to get the hell away from these people and this dorm.
He dropped to his knees on the soaking wet sidewalk and let himself be drenched as he tried calling Jin over and over. It was late at night and he knew it was past everyone's bed time but he was desperate. When calling seemed to not work, he shot him a bunch of texts.
taehyung: jin
taehyung: hyung
taehyung: come get me
taehyung: please
taehyung: im sorry
taehyung: ????
taehyung: are you awake please come get me i want to come back. im sorry can we talk?
He tried calling the others but none of them replied. Damn Jin and his bed time rules! But I just want to sleep too..
His mental breakdown got worse as he realized he had nobody to turn to right now. He dropped his face into the ground and started screaming and wailed uncontrollably as the sound of the rain drowned out his voice. He clutched his chest when he started having a lot of trouble breathing. He grabbed his inhaler out of his pocket and began sucking it down, not even paying attention to how much he was using. He was hyperventilating badly and panicking. He felt his body shaking. He realized his panic attack was now morphing into an asthma attack, something he hadn't experienced this badly in years. In his state of panic he was still so incredibly desperate for help but he didn't have the strength to stand and run back inside. He tried screaming but he knew nobody would hear him. He tried calling Jin again but got no answer. Then he realized, if Jin still cared at all, and if by chance he was seeing Taehyung's texts and ignoring them, then there was one thing he knew would most likely get his hyungs attention. Something Jin knew Taehyung never lied about.
taehyung: i need help i cant breathe . help
Immediately, his phone lit up.
Jin was calling him.
Taehyung saw his fingers still trembling as he picked up. "H-hyung!" he cried.
"Taehyung?! Where are you? I'm coming! Are you hurt? What's wrong? You can't breathe?! Do you have your inhaler?!"
Taehyung could barely talk between breaths. "The-the d-dorm. Help hyung ..I-please..let me come home. Hyung I'm so-r-rry." He fell back into a coughing fit.
"Don't worry about any of that shit right now Taehyung! Do you have your inhaler?!"
"Y-yes," Taehyung cried. He looked at the side to see he only had two more puffs of it left. He panicked because he knew he'd need more. He dropped his phone and then buried his face into the ground again, screaming and crying in agony. He could hear Jin screaming on the other end that he'd be there in a second.
And true to his word, Jin had sped through the rain and met Taehyung outside. He found his dongsaeng face first in the dirt, crying. He immediately dove to his knees, grabbed Taehyung, and pulled him into the tightest hug he could possibly give. He rubbed his dongsaengs back and ran his fingers through his drenched hair.
"Why the hell are you outside?!" Jin scolded.
"I-I.." Taehyung kept coughing. Jin grabbed Taehyung's inhaler and shoved it into the youngers mouth, but they both realized it was empty.
"Do you have more?!" Jin panicked. Taehyung shook his head no.
Jin usually picked up Taehyung's inhaler medicine. The younger never really payed attention to when he was running low, because he never 'ran low'. It was always restocked at the dorm because it was a high priority on Jin's list to constantly check and make sure he had enough. The oldest was always terrified of something like this happening.
The oldest could see how badly Taehyung was panicking and gasping for air. He called an ambulance to come. While waiting, Taehyung was using every possible breath he could to apologize to his hyung. "I-I'm sorry- hyungie- please-I-home-Jin."
"Shhh," Jin cooed, holding Taehyung's face to his chest. "We can talk later, okay? Right now I need you to try and take deep breaths, Taehyungie. Slow, deep breaths." He kissed the top of Taehyung's head as his dongsaeng tried to do just that. As hard as he tried, he was having too much trouble. Now Jin was panicking as he tried to continue to speak softly and reassure Taehyung that they'd be fine and he wasn't even angry at him anymore, etc. He rocked him in his arms. He scooped Taehyung up in his arms and said he needed to bring him inside but Taehyung begged and pleaded to not be brought back in, so Jin brought him to the car and layed him down in the backseat.
Thankfully the ambulance arrived quickly too. While paramedics were shoving needles and tubes into Taehyung he was crying and reaching his arm out for Jin, not wanting to be separated from his hyung. Jin decided to leave his car parked and go with Taehyung in the ambulance. He caressed Taehyung's forehead as he cried and watched strangers pump his little brother full of medicines. The absolute last thing on his mind right now was their recent fight. He didn't care about it anymore. He realized he'd rather have a bratty, disobedient, pain in the ass of a little brother around rather than not have him at all. The thought of Taehyung not making it through this released floodgates out of Jin's eyes. He dropped his forehead down against Taehyungs. "I love you, Taehyungie. Hyung loves you so much." He felt Taehyung squeeze his hand a little tighter.
They arrived at the hospital and by then the medicine the paramedics had given him had sedated him and his breathing was now under control. He was brought to a room to rest, and Jin was still right at his side. Jin got in the bed with Taehyung and continued to hug him and rub his back. Now that Taehyung could finally speak, even though it was slow as he was trying not to fall asleep, he once again began to apologize.
"I'm sorry, hyung." Taehyung looked at him with big, scared, hurt eyes. "I don't try to be a bad dongsaeng on purpose. I'm sorry for what I said and how I acted. I really miss you. I miss all of you. Please let me come home."
"Taehyung.." Jin said softly. "I never said you couldn't come back."
"But you said I could leave."
"Yes. I said you could leave if you wanted to. But I never told you that you weren't allowed to come back. You just never asked."
Taehyung realized Jin was right. Jin had never officially kicked Taehyung out of the dorm. He simply gave him the freedom to leave if that's what he had wanted.
Taehyung frowned. "I guess I thought you didn't want me back."
"That was never true. I wanted you back every single day."
Taehyung raised an eyebrow at his hyung. "You did?" He didn't believe that. "You never even talked to me at practice."
"I knew if I did I'd just miss you more. And I didn't say anything because to simply put it, I didn't know what to say or how to say it. There's a reason I have rules at home, and there's some things I know I can't change, and I already knew you weren't okay with them so I assumed you didn't want to come home. You made it sound like you really enjoyed living there, and to be honest, I was happy because you seemed happy and I didn't want to ruin that, even though it hurt not having you around."
"I wasn't happy," Taehyung admitted. He finally opened up about how absolutely miserable he was living with Kin and them. After admitting everything, Jin couldn't imagine how Taehyung lasted so long living in such filth. He realized now why he was always so tired and sick at practice.
"I missed you a lot, and worried a lot, but figured it was best to do it from the sidelines as not to bother you," Jin said. "Just know that I kept my phone on and with me every single night, just in case one day something like this happened. Tonight I didn't reply right away because I wasn't sure if you were being serious or not, but when I got the text that you couldn't breathe..I ..the panic that shot through me.." Jin broke down in tears and held him tighter. He let his tears fall on Taehyung's head. "I'm sorry Taehyung-ah. I'm just so glad you're okay. I don't care about the fighting or you being messy, I just want you home too. We all do. I still have to protect you. You're still my little brother. You never stopped being my little brother."
Taehyung let himself be held by Jin as they cried together. He ended up falling asleep against his hyung and a few hours later woke up to the news that he'd be able to head home. Taehyung looked at Jin. "Home?" Jin nodded. "Yes, Taehyung. Your real home."
Jin called a Taxi to bring them back to his car, and then drove them back to the dorm. It was around 4 AM at this point. The hospital had sent Taehyung home with new inhaler medicine and Jin promised to stock up on even more as soon as the pharmacy opened. When they got back, Taehyung walked into a clean, nice smelling, warm and inviting dorm. It was peaceful and silent as all the members slept. He didn't remember it being like this before, but this was the first time he had anything to compare it to. He asked if he could shower and Jin chuckled. "Since when do you ask to ever do anything around here?"
Taehyung laughed and headed straight for the bathroom. Jin grabbed him a pair of clean pajamas and made his bed for him. Once Taehyung was out, he could barely walk because of his insanely exhausted his body was. Even without being in the midst of an asthma attack he was still battling a cold. Jin gave him cold medicine and got him some hot tea. The younger was out like a light within minutes.
Jin couldn't sleep after all that happened so he stayed up and began working on cooking a huge breakfast for everyone. Once the others woke up they walked into the kitchen talking about how good it smelled.
"What's the occasion?" Jimin joked. Everyone took a seat and saw Jin look behind them and smile. They turned to see Taehyung standing there in his pajamas.
"Hyung?!" Jungkook shot out of his chair and ran to him, pulling him into a hug and picking him up.
"Careful with him! He's sick! He just got home from the hospital!" Jin lightly scolded. All of the members faces fell into an instant state of worry.
"Hospital?!" Yoongi screamed. "Why?!"
Taehyung joined the table and explained what happened, and mentioned he was moving back in. The members were ecstatic about it but heartbroken over what had happened. They were grateful to Jin for being there for him, not realizing Taehyung had tried contacting all of them as they hadn't checked their phones yet.
"So are you two okay?" Jimin asked, looking back and forth between Jin and Taehyung. They both promised they were okay. In fact, probably even better than they were before. As they ate breakfast, Taehyung kept staring at Jin. He saw his hyung smiling, but also saw how tired he looked. He knew how exhausted the oldest must have been to have ran to him in the middle of the night, made sure he got to the hospital, stayed with him, brought him home to let him sleep, and yet stayed up after all of this just to make breakfast and make sure he was fed. He had a new appreciation for his hyung, and even all of his rules. He realized his hyungs rules weren't about trying to be a bossy oldest brother. They were about safety, security, and health. And most importantly, love.
As he watched his hyung from the table he thought about the days he spent with Kin and his group. How Kin didn't seem to care all that much about anyone in that dorm, in fact none of them seemed to care all that much about each other at all. Nobody took care of each other over there.
He thought about how sure, Kin and his group had all the freedom in the world that they wanted, but in the end he had something irreplaceable that they didn't have and something that was so much better.
He had Jin-hyung.
[The End]
