Prologue: Useless

Ash was sitting down during the morning after the Crisis was officially over. He was thinking about his loss and how he thought he did.

'Second place. So close to finally winning. I can't believe it. Well, I can't let that hold me down too much no matter how bad it stings.' He thought.

He got up out of bed and walked into the kitchen of the hotel room they were in to grab some food.

"Hey guys." Ash said to the others.

"Hi Ash." Serena said first.

"Hey." Clemont and Bonnie said.

Ash began to go get some Pokemon food in order to feed Pikachu and the others, but Clemont stopped him.

"Ash, don't worry about that. I already fed them." Clemont stated.

Ash put the Pokemon food away and began to grab some cereal for the morning when Bonnie stopped him this time.

"Ash, I already made sandwiches for you. Look by the table." She gestured to the plate on a table.

Ash began to feel surprised. He always gets his own food unless Clemont or Serena made dinner for everyone.

"Well, thanks." Ash said as he went and ate his sandwitch really quick. He then went to grab a bottle of water when Serena stepped in front of him.

"Just go sit down. I'll get you some water." She stated.

Ash was very annoyed with them. "Look, I'm fine. I can get it myself."

"Don't bother with it." Serena stated as she blocked Ash and tried to make him sit down.

Ash fought back. "Hey stop that. I said-"

"I don't care what you said. I said sit down and let me get it!" Serena demanded.

Ash was over this attitude. He walked back into his room and slammed the door behind him.

Clemont looked at Serena. "You know, that was a bit harsh."

Serena shrugged. "Well I'm trying to help him, but he refuses to accept it."

"Well, you might want to apologize to him." Bonnie said.

Serena smiled. "I'll apologize once he cools down. Don't worry about it."

After everyone fell asleep, Ash decided to take a chance. He was fed up with how the others were acting.

'I don't get it. I know I lost, but this treatment is ridiculous. I was never treated like this after my other league losses.

'Heck, even my mom was thinking about coming over to help around with a few things. I'm not usless or anything.' He thought.

Ash then looked around and noticed something. Pikachu wasn't in the room with him. He realized that he remembered seeing Pikachu with Bonnie all afternoon.

'Maybe... maybe this is their way of saying I need to quit... or maybe just get out of their lives. Everyone else I talked to on the phone said they couldn't believe my loss, so maybe they think I should quit...'

'No. I can't quit after I got so close. But maybe I should look for a new start somewhere else. Maybe I can work in a new place where I can't disappoint the others.'

He looked through a list of areas that were becoming well known recently. He put his finger on a particular place called Alola. A place that was starting to install its own league.

'Perfect. It also looks like it's far from the other regions I've been to over the years. Good thing I have a one way plane ticket to anywhere. My mom got me it after I left in case I needed to come home. I guess I should leave my other Pokemon behind and start from scratch. Including Pikachu this time.' Ash thought.

Ash grabbed all his stuff and began to sneak out of the room. As soon as he got outside of the room, a blue frog-like Pokemon stopped him.

"Greninja?" Ash asked.

His Pokemon nodded. He handed Ash his Pokeball.

Ash looked at Greninja and smiled. "Thanks. I should've thought you would want to come with me. I'll just leave you out for now."

Both Ash and Greninja began to walk out the area, and suddenly they heard a cry. Both of them dashed straight towards a small area with trees in Lumiose City.

They saw two thugs attacking an Eevee. "Come here you little jerk. You can't escape from us!"

Ash and Greninja nodded towards each other and ran at the thugs

"Greninja, use Night Slash."

Greninja swiftly formed two dark blades and defeated the thugs.

One of the thugs looked up at him. "What's your problem man? This buisness does not concern you at all."

Ash shot him a glare. "Forcefully trying to catch a pokemon like that is against the law. We'll just see what Officer Jenny says about this.

They tied them up, made an 'anonymous call' to the police station, and Ash turned his attention towards the Eevee.

"Hey. Are you ok?" Ash tried to walk up to the scared Pokemon. The Pokemon winced at Ash's touch, but was shocked at what happened next.

The human was hugging her lightly. "It's alright. I would never hurt you. My name's Ash."

The Pokemon was surprised, but was happy that someone actually liked her. In response, the Eevee nuzzled into Ash's chest and let out a cry of happiness.

Ash chuckled a bit. As soon as he let the Pokemon go, the Eevee jumped up and onto Ash's shoulder. Ash was a bit surprised, but realized what the Eevee wanted.

"Do you want to travel with me?" Ash asked.

The Eevee nodded, and hit a Pokeball on Ash's belt. The Eevee was caught before Ash knew it. Ash was happy over such a rare capture.

"I can't believe it, Greninja. I've never had an Eevee. I've only seen my other friends with them." Ash exclaimed.

Greninja nodded in happiness and acknowledgement for his trainer. Suddenly, the Eevee popped out of the Pokeball and hopped onto Ash's shoulder again.

Ash and his two Pokemon made it to the airport with little trouble and hopped on the first plane to Alola. The three fell asleep in moments as they continued to the new region.

Next morning...

Serena, Clemont, and Bonnie were already making breakfast and waiting for Ash to come out of the room. After waiting for a long time, Serena was curious.

"He never takes this long. I'm going to go check on him." She walked into Ash's room.

She didn't see Ash anywhere, but saw a note on the table. She picked it up, read a part of it, and she screamed.

Clemont and Bonnie ran up to Serena and saw she was forming tears, and noticed there was a note.

Clemont picked it up and read it aloud.

Flashback: Ash writing the note.

"I get what you guys were getting at. You were helping me because you thought I couldn't help anyone, much less, myself. After all, it was a heartbreaking loss for me.

I decided to leave to become stronger. I left all of my Pokemon here because I didn't think I was strong enough to be worthy of them. If they hear this, then I'm sorry I couldn't be strong myself.

As for my friends, I wish you well on all your adventures. If you ever hear from me again, then maybe we could battle, but I doubt that will happen.

Clemont, I hope you become the best Inventor you can. As a gym leader and someone with your brains, you'll do fine.

Bonnie, I hope you become a powerful trainer. Take all the tricks you learned from us, and become the best you can. I know you can do it.

Serena, I know you liked me. Sorry, but I will not let that hold me back. I will tell you to never stop smiling. You bring joy to those around you all the time. Never give up on your dream.

Mom, I'm sorry for leaving you like this. I bet this makes me like dad, huh? Well I will miss you. Stay strong for me.

Professor Oak, thanks for taking care of my Pokemon. Please break the news to them. Tell them I'm sorry. I'm also sorry to leave them all with you like this.

I thank all of you for helping me, but I need to go on and not disappoint you any longer. It's better this way. I'll miss all of you. Don't look for me. I don't want to make you all worry about it."

- Ash

I left the letter on the table, and exited the room.

Present time...

Serena and Bonnie hugged each other and began crying. Pikachu put on a sad expression. Clemont couldn't blame them with who they saw Ash as.

"I have an understanding of why he did it, but I wish he hadn't." Clemont stated.

"We need to go tell the others." Serena stated.

In a flash, they ran to gather their things for a plane trip to Kanto...

In Alola...

Ash was asleep with his two Pokemon when he heard a voice.

"Sir. Excuse me. You need to get up."

He saw a flight attendant standing over him. He looked around and noticed everyone was gone.

"Are we here?" Ash asked.

The attendant nodded. "You need to leave. We have to take another flight in an hour."

Ash quickly got everything and got off of the plane with his Pokemon by his side. They took in the sights as they began to leave the airport.

"I like it here. What about you two?" Ash asked.

Eevee let out a cry of excitement, and Greninja nodded in agreement. Both Pokemon seemed to be ready to go.

They were walking down the street, looking for a place to stay for the night. Suddenly they heard a loud cry.

"That sounds further down the street. Let's go see what it is." Ash broke into a run towards a small crowd of people.

He saw a girl with white clothes that had a very odd, but very injured white Vulpix in front of her. There was a group of three in black in front of her.

One had long pink hair with an S symbol tattooed on her stomach. The other two were a guy and a girl, and they had silver chains around their necks and bandanas on their faces. They had lizard-looking Pokemon with black on them. The one in front of the tattooed girl looked to be the evolution, so the girl was assumed to be the leader.

"You have no other Pokemon with you other than out target, and it can't battle. Nobody would mess with me, so why don't you come along quietly?" The tattooed girl asked.

The blonde girl hesitated, but Ash and Greninja stood in front of the blonde girl defensively.

"And who are you? Clearly you aren't from here if you think you can tangle with me." The tattooed girl questioned.

"The name's Ash. I refuse to let anyone get teamed up on like that. You want her, you have to go through me." Ash exclaimed.

The tattooed girl smirked. "You got spunk. I'll tell you my name. I'm Plumeria, the Admin of Team Skull. We are feared throughout all of Alola."

"Doesn't matter to me. Now you and your lackeys better run before things get ugly." Ash warned them.

They laughed. "Salazzle, Salandit, use Fire Blast."

Ash smirked. "Greninja, let's get stronger and stronger. Let's go!"

Greninja was enveloped in water, and transformed into Ash-Greninja. Everyone gasped in shock.

"Water Shuriken."

Ash and Greninja together threw the water attack, and it clashed with the three Fire Blasts.

"Now use Aerial Ace."

Greninja appeared behind the Salandit and lashed out at the two Pokemon, knocking them out instantly.

Team Skull was stunned, but Plumeria wasn't finished. "Salazzle, Gunk Shot."

"Block with Night Slash."

Greninja cut right through the poison attack and jumped above Salazzle.

"Let's finish this with Water Shuriken!"

They together threw the water attack with blinding speed, and Salazzle was launched and fell to the ground. It has swirls in its eyes.

Team Skull returned their Pokemon and ran. "We won't forget this!"

Greninja reverted back an Ash helped attend to the blonde girl and the white Vulpix. After the Vulpix was healed, he began to talk to the girl.

"Are you ok?" Ash asked.

The girl nodded in awe with widened eyes, but began asking several questions. "Where are you from? What was that power? Why did you help me?"

Ash was surprised at the outburst. "I'll tell you, but let's not stay here. Ok?"

They began walking away from the area, and Ash began talking to answer the questions.

"Ok. My name is Ash Ketchum and I'm from Kanto. This is my Eevee, and my Greninja." He gestured to his Pokemon.

Lillie smiled at the Pokemon and looked back at Ash. "I'm Lillie, and I live here in Alola. Now why did you help me?"

Ash shrugged. "I just felt like I had to. I would never let anyone deal with a problem like that. It's unfair."

Lillie smiled. "Well, you're amazing. Nobody just faces Team Skull like that. Now, what was that thing with you and your Greninja?"

"Well, Greninja and I have this thing only we can do. It's called the Bond Phenomenon. When Greninja and I are in full sync in battle, we unlock this power. It's similar to Mega Evolution, but we don't use stones."

Lillie's eyes widened. "Incredible. I've only ever heard about that on TV. They said that the Kalos League Runner-up could do... wait. You were runner up in Kalos?"

Ash held his finger to his mouth. "Shhh. Don't ask about my other Pokemon. I didn't bring them."

"Ok. But you will tell me the rest later on, ok?" Lillie demanded.

"I promise. Now what is with your Vulpix by the way? All of the Vulpix I have ever met have been orange and red." Ash asked.

"Oh that's right. You don't know about this. Well you see, there are certain pokemon here that are different from the ones that you find everywhere else in the world. Here we call them Alolan Forms. They change typing and abilities as well. For example, a normal Vulpix is a fire type. Here, an Alolan Vulpix is an Ice and Fairy type. You get it?"

Ash nodded. "Now where are we going?"

"To the Pokemon School. I have classes there." They turned the corner, and there was a school there.

Ash smiled. "You mind if I check the place out?"

"Yeah. The teacher should allow it." They walked into the front gate. Several people ran up to them.

"Lillie, where were you? You were late. And who's this guy?" A green haired girl asked.

"I got attacked by Team Skull. Their Admin tried to take me." The group gasped. "But, this guy helped me. He is so powerful. He beat all three of them."

The group looked at Ash, who was stroking behind Eevee's ears and was clearly tuned out of the conversation. A red haired man in red shorts looked doubtfully.

"This guy? He doesn't even have a Z-Ring." The man stated.

"Kiawe, don't assume just off of that." A blue haired girl said while the green haired girl nodded in agreement.

Kiawe frowned. "Still though. Team Skull aren't pushovers, Lana."

"Well for him, they were." Lillie said.

Kiawe looked at Ash. "I could beat this guy easy with Turtonator."

Ash heard that, and looked at Kiawe. "You really want to try that?"

"Shouldn't be that hard. Let's go." Kiawe demanded.

Ash and Greninja took to the field with Kiawe and his Turtonator. Meanwhile, a man in a white lab coat was watching from a window...

"Ok, Greninja, let's do this one more time. Stronger and stronger. Let's go!"

Greninja transformed, while Kiawe, who was shocked, put a crystal on a bracelet.

A orange haired kid reffed the battle. "Alright, battle begin."

"Let's end this quick Turtonator." He activated his Z-Ring. He did a pose, and Turtonator began to attack. "INFERNO OVERDRIVE!"

Ash was in awe of the attack, but, unlike with Alain, he was ready. "Full Power. WATER SHURIKEN!"

With Water Shuriken being faster than the Z Move, Greninja struck the forming attack, and there was an explosion. When the smoke cleared, Turtonator had visible injuries, and had swirls in its eyes.

"Turtonator is unable to battle. Greninja wins. Ash wins the battle."

Ash returned Greninja, and everyone ran up to him to ask questions. Ash held his hands up.

"Calm down. Let me explain." Ash told them the same thing he told Lillie.

Everyone was astonished. "If I knew I was picking on a Runner-up in the Kalos league, I would've shut my mouth when you walked in the gate." Kiawe stated.

A man in a lab coat walked up. "That was amazing. I've never seen anyone pierce a Z Move with a normal attack."

Ash looked at the man. "Thanks. I'm Ash. Who are you?"

The man smiled. "I'm Kukui, and I'm the professor here. Now I have an offer for you. Clearly you don't have a place to stay if you showed up just recently, right?"

Ash nodded. "Well then here is the offer. I can let you stay at my place, but in return, I ask you participate in the Island Trial Challenge. We would love to have you here."

Ash thought about it. "I accept."

And with that, Ash had established his new home in Alola while unbeknownst to his old friends, whom were preparing to look for him...

(Skip if you do not care.)

I know what most of you are thinking. Why make this? Why not update your other stories? Simple. Inspiration dragged me elsewhere.

Now I need to put this out there now, consider the other two on hold for now. The reason I made this was that I wanted a different approach personally to how Ash tackled Alola. This will be longer than my other stories as well so I hope you appreciate the time I am attempting to put in.

Now the reason the other two are on hold is because I lost track of which way personally I want to take the stories. With school cluttering my life right now, I lost most of my ideas I had developed throughout the summer. Don't consider them done. I just need time to figure out a new way to take those stories.

Now to end it all, this isn't the only new story I have been messing eith behind the scenes. You kinda get bored after a lot of thinking so I have been writing a few other things. More on that at a later time.

Now comment question. Favorite Kalos Pokemon? Mine is Noivern. He just looks awesome to me. Now until we meet again.
