Chapter 41 Plan B
Chapter 41 Plan B
They emailed the list and links to Jasmine. He typed in all the questions he could think of and had Lightfoot do the same.
The next two hours seemed to crawl forward. Sebastian hoped that Sara would call or open a mind link. She didn't. It was the Luna that let him know that Sara was being released from the hospital clinic. Gina linked with him two minutes later.
Are you out of your mind? You went back to work today? What about Sara? She's your mate, Sebastian. Gina demanded the second he opened the link.
Gina, she asked me to leave. I'm going out of my mind. I cant be with my mate or find this girl or understand why my mate obviously doesn't want me around. So, yes, I left as she asked me to. What was I supposed to do, Gina? Force my presents on her because I hate being away from her? He knew he sounded harsh but he was having a hard time caring.
I'm sorry Seb. She called me for a ride. I didn't even think to ask why you went to work.
How is she doing?
I'm not there yet. I'll let you know as soon as I know something. Her mental tone now laced with sympathy.
Sebastian wanted to ask her if she would ask Sara to contact him but he didn't.
Are you going to stay with her for a while? He asked hoping the answer was yes.
Yes. Stores closed, Paul is taking Mark for a run so I don't have to go home right now.
I'll be leaving here about ten unless we get some better information.
I cant stay that late, Seb. Mark and Paul will be home at seven. I told them I would make dinner tonight.
Sebastian almost sighed out loud but remembered that Lightfoot was across the room. He didn't want Sara to be alone. He knew it was irrational. He still clearly remembered the feel and scent of her blood as she lay in the alpha office after the attack. They used their hands but when that failed to stop the blood from flowing he had ripped off his shirt and pressed it to her neck and head. It had felt an eternity before Steven and two other Lycans had arrived.
I'll have to go home at six to make dinner. It's only four-thirty now. I'm pulling up to the clinic now. We'll link later okay?
As soon as you can let me know how she is, Okay?
With the link severed he went back to waiting. The sooner he found the teen the better. He dialed Jasmines number.
"Well?" he asked gruffly.
"Geez. Hello to you too, boss." Jasmine greeted. "but the truth is you have good timing. I searched the name you gave me and you'll love what I found." she paused dramatically. He waited only a heartbeat before he growled at her.
"This isn't the time for climatic pauses, Jasmine. I want to be home with my mate. She's being released from the hospital." Only seconds after the words left his lips did he realize that Lightfoot had stopped typing and now looked at him. Sebastian looked up to find Lightfoot's eyes on him. His discerning brown gaze didn't even hint at surprise or confusion.
"He still owns the property that his grandparents left to him. He's able to pay off the taxes every year with a small lease he holds on a piece of land that's leased by a farmer. How ever he also owns the house and a small two lot piece of land in the city. The house is leased to a James Callen."
"Shit." He jumped up temporarily forgetting everything Lightfoot had heard. That could be dealt with later. "Text me that address and the closest gas station. Have some of the guys meet us there." He motioned to Lightfoot. "We have an address, lets go."
Surprisingly, Lightfoot jumped into the passenger seat of his truck and shut the door. Sebastian didn't say anything as he reversed the truck onto the road. Sebastians phone buzzed on the dash. "Get that. It's probably the addresses." Sebastian said as he turned onto a new road.
"House - 300 Greeley Dr. Gas - 820 Edison." Lightfoot read out loud a moment later.
"Got it." Sebastian said, flipped on his blinker and made a right turn. Ten minutes later they parked in front of a gas station just a few blocks from the other address. The others hasn't made it there yet so Sebastian turned to Lightfoot.
"I don't know about you but I need to eat. Want anything?"
"Uh, sure, anything I'm not picky." he said and Sebastian got the feeling that he wanted to say more. Sebastian nodded and exited the truck.
In the store he found they had a hot deli. He made his deli choices. He just told the guy what he wanted and he turned to the back counter. He put some flavored milk in a coffee cup and topped it with coffee, in another cup he added soda over two inches of ice in the biggest cup the had.
He made his purchases and took them out to the truck. For the first few minutes they ate in silence as they waited t=for the others to arrive.
"Your a skin-walker?" Lightfoot eventually asked. He kept his tone light and took a sip of his coffee.
Sebastian sat his soda down on the drink console. He had hoped to have this conversation at a later date.
"I already knew. You just confirmed it earlier." He said and took a fry from the bag.
"You knew?"
"I'm a native and a PI. Don't sound so surprised." Lightfoot laughed. He popped the fry in his mouth and chewed with a smile.
"Then why haven't you said anything before."
Lightfoot shrugged his shoulders. "Didn't figure it really mattered. I grew up with stories of skin-walkers but you're not like the Yee Naaldlooshii that we were taught. You're not evil and you seem to still have your mind intact. Plus, the old Yee Naaldlooshii didn't live like a wolf. In packs with others of its kind."
Sebastian thought about it a moment. He had heard legends of skin walkers. With the knowledge Lightfoot had it wouldn't hurt to impart a bit more. "We're not your skin walkers. If I'm not wrong they used magic to transform. We don't. We're natural." he grinned. "Although there is some debate about were we came from."
Lightfoot lifted a brow. "You don't know?" he asked and threw a fry in his mouth.
"It depends on where your pack originated from. Most commonly we believe that the creator made us to protect the lands and the men on them. Our duty was to show men where they can hunt, live, survive. We punished the wrong doer and protected the weak. In the human form we blended in and helped make the rules and laws. As wolves we fought to protect the humans, they followed our trails to find water in a forest and food when it was in the depth of winter."
"Was? You said was." Lightfoot pointed out. He took a bite of his food as he waited for Sebastian to reply.
"That is a story for another time." Sebastian said and thought silently IF NEVER.
When they finished their food Sebastian took the wrappings inside to the trash. Through the front glass he saw Charles Pine pull up beside his truck. The little blue car looked small beside his larger truck. Moments later Charles entered the store.
"Hey, boss." he greeted when he saw Sebastian. Sebastian felt a small stab of jealousy as he saw Charles mate walk up behind him. He suppressed the feeling. "That Lightfoot, in your truck?"
Fifteen minutes later there were six Lycans and one human standing at the tailgate of Sebastian's truck. Coffee cups, candy bars, a camera and a few tools held the printed pages to the tailgate. They went over the maps, divided the area into sections. Each took a section leaving only the right side un-guarded as it was only school grounds and parking for the two main schools for the area. The House they wanted watched sat on the edge of sections 3 and 4.
Ronda had brought her little twenty pound mixed breed dog with her. He clipped on the animals leash and proceeded to walk the dog in section 7. She even came equipped with doggie waste bags to clean up the dogs mess.
You may find it strange to find a dog in a pack of wolves but it wasn't. Cats on the other hand were a rarity, not unheard of but rare.
Sebastian took section 2. He simply jogged the streets as if his only interest was jogging. That had been Ronda's Idea. She had pulled out four sets of jogging outfits from the trunk of the little blue car.
"If I had known how many there would be I would have purchased more sets." she said as he handed a set to Charles, Jack, and Lark. She turned to shut the trunk and Branon pointed in side it.
"What about that?"
She inspected the tiny reaches of the trunk. "The skateboard? It's my nieces. She's fifteen."
Branon gave the board a scrutinizing look. "Looks like a guy board. Can I borrow it?"
Ronda shrugged her shoulders and lifted the board. "Just so you know you break her board she'll kill you. She has a tournament coming up. I pick her up tomorrow, to practice. If the board is damaged she'll know and she will kill you."
He nodded dismissively, "Got it." He took the board and went to his small pickup. He grabbed a red and green shirt and a cap from behind his seat. With no thought to humans he changed shirts standing by the open door of his truck.
Ronda gave Sebastian an irritated look. "He's a good tracker." he explained about the 20 year old Lycan."That's why he has section 3."
The only one left was Lightfoot who had section 1 to the west of the north section of the schools. They all looked at him.
"Got anything that can blend you in?" Charles asked.
"I'm a native in a dominate Anglo / African area. Nothing will 'blend' me in. So I just stay in plain sight." He smiled.
That settled they each went their own way. Sebastian dropped Lightfoot off at the edge of his section. The Lycans used the mind link to keep in touch, Lightfoot kept his phone connected to Sebastians.
The sun had started to go down and Branon commandeered the north-west parking lot to skate. He kept his attention focused on the house almost directly west across the street. There had been no movement or sound since he started skating along the road a half hour previously. Now in the parking lot he had a better view.
Plan B, boss? He questioned over the link. He sat down on one of the parking blocks and pretended to tie his shoe.
Yes. Ronda, put Cici up and take my spot so I can change clothes. Sebastian said over the link. He also let Lightfoot know that the waiting was over. If this guy rabbits I want to be ready to follow. Pick up Lightfoot at the PRC.
It took them all less then six minutes to gather and be waiting. Sebastian drove his truck and let Lightfoot ride with Ronda and Charles. He parked his truck and stepped out onto the curb.
Minutes later he was knocking on the door. At first he heard nothing. He knocked harder. He heard a slight shuffling sound. A moment later their target yanked open the door.
