Chapter 33 Confrontation
Chapter 33 Confrontation
"Good afternoon, Sebastian, Sara." the Luna intoned politely as she entered the room. Both the Luna and the Alpha smiled as the greeted their guest. Within moments they invited them to follow them into the office they had just vacated moments age. Half of the office was furnished as a typical office, wooden desk, 2 file cabinets, a sofa table served as a work space with electronics arranged over it's surface. The other side sat a love-seat and two chairs across from each other. between them was a small coffee table that rested on an area rug that almost matched the color of the red wood medium brown paint on the rooms trim.
They all sat and the Luna offered them tea. Sara accepted because she could smell the mint steeping in the porcelain tea pot. When they were all settled with cups of tea the Alpha produced a manila envelope from his jacket pocket.
"Inside you'll find the labs report on the notes you found. Most of the pages were clean. They did find three that had finger prints that were not a match to either of you but only one was a viable print."
"So you know who sent them?"
"We do." Alpha said and motioned to the envelope that he had sat on the table. Sebastian's eyes shifted from the envelope to the alpha. The Alpha nodded. Sebastian snatched the envelope up and pulled the pages of folded paper from the pocket.
He only took seconds to read the first page and then shifted the papers to the second, then the third and page after page. He discarded the pages he view on the trunk by the porcelain tea pot. "Where is she?" his voice a low growl. Sara could feel his body trembling. She reached out and placed a hand on his thigh just above his knee. Her touch calmed him but the Alpha had already started to answer his question. With her other hand she picked up the last page he discarded.
On it was a photocopy of one of the notes. Below a photocopy of a fingerprint. Sara didn't read the account below it before her attention was on the alpha as he spoke.
"The Apartment offices. She is being very well watched. The only people that know about any of this have been ordered to silence. We wanted to speak with the two of you before we made a decision on her punishment." The Alpha informed them. He picked up his tea and took a sip. He made a face that clearly stated he didn't care for unsweetened mint tea.
"Why talk to us? You're the Heads of the pack." Sara asked clearly confused.
"You were the ones most affected by her threats." The Luna said as she placed a hand on the arm of the chair. "Her threats were directed to you, Sara. Some of them very strongly suggested violence or worse."
"I don't care what you do." Sara said and glanced quickly at Sebastian. "I don't want to leave the pack." She stated looking directly at the Luna's face. Sebastian's fingers found hers and wrapped lightly around them. Sara found their warmth comforting. "She hasn't really done anything. It's only words, really."
"It is your right to confront her if you wish too." The Alpha stated.
"Sara, Dear, it may have been only words but some of those words were very clear threats. It was also clear that had this been allowed to go on she most likely would have stopped sending notes and advanced to physical violence. She could have carried out any one or more of her threats. It's clear that she wanted get rid of you any way she could. The fact that that you didn't run with the first few notes made her angry and intensified vindictiveness. She had started to want you to suffer before getting rid of you. You should not take this lightly, Sara."
"I don't even know this woman. Who-" Sara began but Sebastian spoke in an almost unrecognizable voice.
"I have a few things to say to the bitch." His fingers tightened slightly. Sara reacted on instinct and tightened her own fingers around his.
"Be aware that you are bound by orders to cause no physical harm to her. You can say anything you want but we will deal with her punishment." The Alpha said. Sebastian felt the effect of the Alpha order. "She'll be up in a few minutes." the Alpha added and Sara knew that he had used the mind link to call the woman to the office.
Sara found herself shifting uncomfortably in her seat as they waited. No one spoke. After a moment Sebastian's thumb made slow arches across the back of her hand. The contact calmed her anxiety. He didn't stop the caressing and that pleased her even more.
A few minutes passed before the Luna opened a mind link and shared it.
Come in, you needn't knock. We're waiting for you. She said. Her mental voice held no animosity.
A few seconds later Sara heard the slight click of the door latch turning. Her heart skipped then returned to normal. The door opened and a tall blond female entered the room. Her eyes went immediately to the desk and then shifted to the setting area across the room. She smiled and tilted her head in submission to the Luna. Sara knew the exact moment that the woman caught her scent or saw her. Her whole body stiffened despite the smile that remained on her face. Her eyes moved to the Alpha. She smiled and tilted her head in submission. She took a deep breath through her mouth and her eyes moved to Sebastian.
"Karen, I believe you know Sebastian." the Alpha said conversationally.
"Yes, alpha." she nodded. "We grew up together."
The comment stirred a memory of Sebastian telling of the couple that took in orphans. This woman was an orphan too, like her mate? Sara wondered.
"Yes, well, this is Sara, Sebastian's mate." The luna introduced as the woman crossed the room to join them. The woman, Karen, had no choice but to look directly at Sara. All pretense of camaraderie evaporated from the woman's eyes as they landed fully on Sara. Seconds later they turned downright hostile. She blinked, and the rage was gone.
Sara knew she wasn't the only one to see it. Sebastian's fingers tightened around hers. The movement caught the woman's attention. Her eyes snapped down at their clasped hands.
She shifted so fast that no one could have stopped it. The brown wolf flew across the space in two bounds of her hind legs. She landed on top of Sara. Sebastian's hand was wrenched from hers. Sara felt sharp teeth sink into the left side of her face and neck as the wolfs jaws started to close.
"Stop!" the alpha commanded. The order settled over everyone in the room. Sara lay on the floor by the love seat. Her breaths coming in rugged fast gasp. The woman that had attacked her was laying just inches away, writhing on the floor, seemingly in a great deal of pain.
"Stop fighting the order." the Alpha told her. Seconds later she was still except for her breathing.
Sebastian knelled down beside Sara and pressed his shirt over the side of her face and neck. On reflex she tried to pull away from the pain. "Sara, Be still hon." he told her in a soft concerned voice. Sara noticed the sound of footsteps as two male Lycans hurried across the room. She saw them lean down and grasp Karen under her arms and pull her to her from the floor. They drug her away, her feet and knees dragging over the carpet. Sara felt a searing pain across her throat below her left jaw bone. Sebastian pressed harder and the pain intensified.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry." the woman's pleas fell on deaf ears.
"It's not stopping, Alpha." Sebastian said with fear.
The alpha and luna kneeled down beside Sara. Sara blinked because her vision had a red haze over it. It cleared but seconds later the haze was back. Sara wondered why she felt so heavy. Her body didn't want to obey any of her commands. She felt sticky. She wanted to say something because they were all looking at her oddly.
"Hold here, Sebastian." The Luna instructed. Sara thoughts became fuzzy. Pressure at her neck became very painful. That woman had bitten her, she knew that, but she started to fear that the bite was worse then she had first expected. She wanted to clear the red haziness from her eyes so she blinked. Her eyelids were to heavy. They refused to open but her fear lasted only seconds, consciousness faded.
