Chapter 29 Crab Rangoons and Egg Rolls

Chapter 29 Crab Rangoons and Egg Rolls

"We're going to be late." Sebastian said in the hope of distracting her.

Her head whipped sideways to the clock above the deerskin hung on the wall. She said a very un-lady-like curse word and jumped from the sofa. "I cant believe we overslept." she started moving toward the bathroom. "Can you call and let her know I'll be late?" She asked Sebastian.

"Sara you can use the link."

She slowed her pace, looked pleadingly at him over her shoulder, "Please?" She didn't need to mention that she still wasn't comfortable with the Lycan form of silent communication. Dispite using it on more then one occasion she still found it hard to use except when angry or upset.

"Fine. Go dress."  he told her as he smiled, shook his head and stood. "I'll head on out, but I'll call you after work. Do you want a ride to work?" he called threw the bathroom door.

"No. I have my bike." she called back.

In the shower Sara forgot to be embarrassed about waking in Sebastian's arms because her thoughts centered around her parents, all of them. Before she stepped out into the steamy confines of the bathroom she had decided to sign the papers. She could use the money too find out about her family. Maybe it wouldn't make much difference but she wanted to know. There was a small part of her that feared not being able to get any answers. She ignored that part.

As soon as she had dressed and entered the empty living area she went to the dinning room table and signed her name on the seven places marked for her signature.

Sebastian? She asked over the mind link as she exited the apartment.

Change your mind about that ride to work? Came his snarky reply.

No. I just wanted to  let you know I signed the papers.

OH. he sounded surprised. Do you want a ride to Ferndale to take them to your Uncle?

Actually, I wondered if you could take them and tell him that I'll call him later this week.

Are you sure? Maybe a visit would help you. You're doing a lot better around people then when you first got here.

No. She replied flatly, internally blocking any emotion from the link. Seeing her fathers best friend and having to explain why she decided to sign the papers would be too much. She needed more time. I'm leaving my key with Benjamin so you can pick up the papers.

Five hours later she felt the slight push of a foreign thought. Tentatively, she opened the link.

He was disappointed that you didn't come with me to deliver the papers. I told him that you had to work. You should call him. I don't like the thought of you around humans when you're new to shifting but he's your family.

Sara smiled. The fact that he understood the connection to Trevor pleased her. There was no blood or papers that connected them as family but they were. The connection went so much deeper then just DNA. There was an old saying that said you can't choose your family but that wasn't true. You can't choose who shares your blood with but you can choose who you call family. She remembered Trevor and his family visiting with her own. Christmas, New Years, Easter, Thanksgiving, Palm Sunday,  Good Friday, Arbor day, Earth day, Memorial Day, Independence day,  Halloween, any holiday was fair game as far as her family were concerned. They were all days to spend together, to eat, to play, to be, to love, to enjoy life. The biggest celebration was always the weekend closest to August 20, her birthday.

That day was coming again soon and her family would be missing, again.

Not all of it. Sebastian said. If you allow him in your life.

Stop reading my thoughts. She said angrily.

You were projecting them to me, Sara. He explained.

See, why I hate using this mind link?  She demanded still angry.

You'll get better with practice.  He assured her calmly. Do you wanna watch a movie tonight? I was going to stop in Ferndale's Hastings or Walmart to see what they have. He asked as he navigated a turn out of the paring lot.

Sure. She told him with a slight hesitation. But I cant promise to stay awake. She looked at the clock on the wall above the door. But I warn you It's only 1 o'clock and I'm already half asleep.

I'll pick you up, so you don't have to bike home.

OK. but I'm working till 5:45 today.

I'll be there.

True to his word he arrived at the store at half past five. Dee told him, through the locked front glass door, to park around back as they were already locked up for the day. He drove to the back and noticed her bike. He exited the truck and loaded the bike into the back of the pickup while he waited for her to come out. Dee came out and placed a brick between the door and the jam so it wouldn't lock automatically.

"How was your day?" he asked to make conversation.

"My day was good but i actually had a question for you?" She told him. He quirked and eyebrow at her in question. "Do you know what is going on with her? The first half of the day was fine but after lunch she did the skittish thing again." I had to send her in the back again. She does  a great  job in the back but something is going on and I'm worried about her."

"What time was her lunch?"

"1:30 She got a late start as you know so it set the schedule off so lunch was maybe a bit later."

"I don't know. I mind linked her around one but she didn't mention any thing then."

They heard a door close inside the building and knew she was on her way out. Sebastian smelled her minty scent before she exited the door. She looked around the parking lot before completely exiting the building. She pushed the brick aside and allowed the door to close. It clicked softly behind her.

"You ready for a Tremors marathon?"  He asked trying to sound enthusiastic.

"Tremors?" She responded obviously confused.

"Kevin Bacon. Fred Ward, Hellen Shaver, Michael Gross, Billy Drago,  Subterranean giant worms." He elaborated. She just shook her head, confused. Her eyes farrowed as she looked over to where her bike had been. "Your bikes in the truck."

"Oh, okay." she mumbled.

"You kids have fun. And if you want My opinion you should be watching Alien and Predator movies, not Tremors, although we have a Lycan in Tremors."

Sara's head snapped to Dee. "There's a Lycan in a movie?" She asked complexly shocked. Dee and Sebastian both laughed lightly.

"It's not a starring roll, Sara, not that it would have made much difference it were." Dee said as she opened the car door. She stood by the open door, tossed her purse on the dark cream passenger seat, and rested her arms on the warm blue paint of the roof. She drove a 2002 Kia Optima. She had twice as much money in the car then blue book value but it didn't matter to her. She could depend on the car. "Anyway, remember I have a meeting at my daughters school so we wont open till 11." She rolled her eyes and shook her head. "I swear that woman finds fault with something at least three times a month, at least requiring me or my mate to have a meeting once a month." she gave the roof three taps with her knuckles then smiled. "We'll make up the time on Saturday. But I have to go. Ya'll have fun." She waited for their replies of "Good by." and "See you tomorrow." before she ducked into the car.

Sara was watching Sebastian from the passenger seat get into the truck before she asked, "There's really a Lycan?"

Sebastian laughed as he buckled his safety belt.

It was fairly clear by the second movie that Tremors was not going to be one of Sara's favorites in her collections. However, she did watch without complaint. Twenty minutes into the second movie she demanded food. Her stomach growled loudly. 0.

"Maybe I should eat?" she asked with a blush. "Are you hungry? I can make deer stir fry." She offered pausing the DVD player.

"I think we should order in. Chefs Wok delivers." Sebastian told her lightly.

Forty-two minutes later a human delivered the large order of 6 Crab Rangoon's, 10 Chicken Wings, 6 egg rolls, Egg Drop Soup, Steamed rice, Beef Fried Rice, Chicken Lo Mein, Pepper Steak With Onion, Beef With Broccoli, extra crispy noodles and copious packets of soy sauce, duck sauce and other little packets of flavoring that Sara had never tried. Even with their Lycan appetites there were a lot of leftovers. Sara had ate the last Crab Rangoon after snatching it from the paper tub before Sebastian. Sebastian laughed.

"Okay, next time I know what to order extra of." he chuckled as he picked up one of the egg rolls. Sara nodded as she bit into the still warm crisp fried goodness.
