Chapter 23 Kidnapped
Chapter 23 Kidnapped
It had turned out much easier for Sara to order online. The 20% that needed to be done in town still took more time then she wanted except for one thing. Sebastian took shopping at Lycan owned resale shop.
Thanks to Evodine Sara spent more time staring at him then actually shopping. But she did manage to furnish her bathroom in a whimsical seaside/under-the-sea theme. She had also gotten eight pair of pants, four t-shirts, two shirts, three pair of shoes, lots of socks, two bras and a black baseball hat.
The furniture and bedding had been ordered on rush delivery so she set up her apartment in only two days.
There were small things that hadn't arrived but Sara didn't care. She hadn't slept on a real bed in so long that the bed in her room felt like a cloud.
Her dining room table was piled with things that needed to be put in place.
At the moment Sara was concentrating on going through the things that had been brought back from the Hide. They had arrived just an hour ago. Someone had boxed everything up and now she was emptying out the boxes on the rug in front of her green loveseat.
She took her time going through photos. She cried as she looked at separate pictures of Casper, Gloria and Cleo. She wished she had a picture of her biological mother. Did she look like her? What about her father, did she look like him? Whos eyes did she have? Did one of her biological parents have blue eyes? Did they have that little dimple in their cheeks when they smiled?
She shook her thoughts and tried to concentrate on the task at hand.
We stay? Evodine asked softly.
"I don't know." she replied honestly. She didn't know what she was doing. She wasn't even sure she knew what she wanted. An hour later she boxes of things she no longer wanted, as well as boxes of things she intended to keep. She moved the trash boxes to the door intending to throw them out. Unfortunately, she didn't know where the trash was supposed to go.
She didn't want to bother the alpha and Luna with something so trivial. She decided to ask Benjamin at the front desk.
Ask mate. Mate will know. Evodine said enthusiastically.
Sara sighed. She wasn't fooled. But it was true. Sebastian would know. Sebastian? She thought over the mind link.
Sara? He replied sounding almost surprised.
I had question. She admitted. Some of the pack brought my things from the Hide. I went through the boxes and now have a lot of trash but i don't know where the bins are.
I'll be there in a few minutes. He told her over the link.
No, that's not necessary. She said but she could already feel he had already closed down the link. "You could have just told me where it was." she sighed.
True to his word he was there in just minutes. Sara opened the door and let him inside.
He looked at the boxes and shook his head. "Most of this stuff looks like it can be sold to the resale shop. It wouldn't be much but you could get a little money for it. We could take it over if you like." He pulled his phone out of his pocket and glanced at the time.
"No. Um." her brows furrowed. "I'll get Victoria to take me."
After a moment of silence he nodded. "Sure." He left shortly after and Sara called Victoria to ask for a ride.

Sebastian walked in to the resale shop knowing he had no business checking up on Sara. She had worked here for over a week now and he had seen her in passing only twice. He smiled at Gina Lutes. She smiled back. Sebastian got the feeling there was more to the smile then just a simple hello. She slid a new .
"Come to check on your mate?" She asked knowingly. She closed the register tape compartment.
Sebastian shook his head. Then he sighed. "Yes, I suppose I have . I've felt anxious all day."
"If her behavior is anything to go by so has she." She said and lifted her left eyebrow. "You started the mating process? Odd, I cant smell it on her." It was common when mates stared the process that they sometimes shared emotions when one was experiencing an intense emotion.
He was already shaking his head. "No. She's not ready." He looked around the room. Because some of the racks and displays were fairly tall he couldn't spot her.
"She's not out here." she shook her head. "Like I said, she's been tense all day. She's sorting donations in the back."
"How bad, Dee?" he questioned her. Granted in the past hour his anxiety had calmed but he was still worried. How could he feel her emotions when they hadn't mated yet? The intensity of what she felt must have been practically off the charts.
"She was getting better with adult customers, we've never had a problem with kids under 10 or 12, but today it was like every thing she had learned the last few weeks just evaporated. Yesterday she was good, but today," she shook her head and leaned her elbows on the counter, "every time the bell rang over the door her heart sped up, she would duck behind a display, or hold her breath. About an hour ago she was shaking so hard I tried to send her home. She begged me to let her stay. I sent her in the back. She was starting to make my wolf antsy too." She scratched the small scar above her left eye brow.
Sebastian looked across the room to the door that led to the storage area. "Mind if I go back and see her?" he asked.
She picked up her cell phone, tapped a button and said, "Get her out of here, she only has 3 hours of her shift anyway. Kidnap her or something, take her on a picnic. Just make sure she looses that look in her eyes before you take her home."
His brow furrowed at the last comment.
"You'll see what i mean, Sebastian." she glanced at the door that separated them from the back rooms. "If you want my opinion that girl was way too sheltered in her last pack." her voice held compassion for Sara but there was contempt for the pack she believed had raised her. Sebastian didn't divulge the truth. If Sara chose to tell any one it would have to be her choice.
"Anyway, go on. Tell her business is so quiet I can handle it myself today." She smiled.
He nodded. She directed him to the wash room, the second door down the hall on the right.
He found Sara coming out of the second door a few minutes later. Her arms were full of stacks of clothes and a cardboard box, her vision blocked. Over her left wrist hung thin clothes on plastic hangers. He heard her heart rate increase. The piles trembled. Her foot steps halted.
"Hey stranger." he called. Her heart seemed to skip then settle into a normal rhythm. "Want some help with that?"
"I've got it." came her muffled reply.
"Suit your self." he grinned.
She started walking and made her way to the first door. It opened with a push of her full arms. He followed her to the door but stopped in the threshold. The room was made up of ordered chaos. Shelves of wood lined the wall others made of metal were strategically placed through the large room held row after row of books and magazines, on lower shelves were bins that held nick knacks, large plastic boxes that held anything from toys to cooking utensils, totes holding socks and underthings, racks of clothing. To the left of the room was a 6 foot long table devoid of clutter.
He watched as she placed the load on the table. She pulled bundles of socks from the box and walked across the room and placed them in tote with a blue lid. Next she started going through the piles of clothes.
"Are you just going to keep staring at me?" she asked without turning to look at him.
He took step into the room. "I'll help you let me."
She slid a pile of T-shirts to the right across the table. "Clear tote, blue lid, section T, bottom shelf." she told him. She still hadn't looked at him.
He grinned as he picked up the pile. He found the tote with out any problems and soon had the things put away. She passed him on her way to put away a load of towels.
"Fair warning when we're done here I'm kidnapping you." he told her as they stood back at the table.
Her head jerked to face him, her heart speeding in alarm. She stared at him with big round eyes. Her hands lay frozen on a pile of denim.
"Relax, Sara. Sharron said business is slow so she can handle it alone. I though we'd go for a drive or something. I could just take you back to your apartment if you'd rather."
She shook her head no.
An hour later his truck sat alone in an abandoned mall parking lot. He stood by the passenger door. Sara shook her head. "I think I changed my mind. I'm - I'm not ready. Really." Her hair bounced as she shook her head.
"Sara.'' he drew out her name. "Do you trust me?"
Sara struggled with her fear even as Evodine cheered her trust in Sebastian.
Trust mate, mate protect. Evodine cheered.
Shut up! Sara commanded.
Evodine's human is childish. I'm not afraid. Our mate would not let up get hurt. Trust mate. She tried to convince her. It didn't work.
"Sara, you can do this. I'll be right here, every second." He assured her.
Mate will think we are not worthy of the mate bond. You make us look weak. Evodine said sadly.
What? Sara demanded.
You do not trust him to protect us. You fear you can not protect yourself. No Lycan wants a mate that can not protect self or wont allow mate to protect. He will not want us if we are weak.
Sara wasn't sure she understood all of that but she understood Evodine's emotions. She knew it was crazy but she wanted Sebastian to want her. She didn't know what she was going to do but she wanted him to want her. If this was the price she paid then so be it. She would swallow her fear. Evodine was right, he would protect her. She swallowed the saliva that pooled in her mouth.
It was amazing watching her. You could almost determine her thoughts by her facial expressions. Fear, rage, sorrow, need, acceptance, hope. It all flashed over her face. She swallowed.
"Lets - lets do it." she said. Her voice trembled. She slid over to the middle of the seat. He jumped into the passenger seat. As soon as she was on the drivers seat he closed his door. He leaned closer. "Are you ready?" he kept his voice low.
She bit her lip but she nodded. Her fingers trembled.
He smiled at her. He brushed a lock of hair from her face. He reached down and her breath hitched.
The trucks engine rumbled as soon as his fingers caressed the key.
"You remember what I told you?"
She gave a jerky nod. He had her hold the clutch as she moved the shifter through the gears.
"Slide the shifter into gear. Ease off the clutch as you press on the gas."
She tried to do as he said but the truck gave a massive shudder and lurched forward only to shudder harder and die. She screamed.
"Calm down, Sara. It happens a lot the first few times. Try again." he told her in a reassuring voice.
The second time was no better then the first. When she finally managed to get the truck to move she felt a wave of pride.
"Shift into second. Strait down, hold the clutch." He explained. The gears grinded as she moved the shifter in place. Her right foot slipped and the whole vehicle vibrated then died.
