Chapter 18 Alpha Apartment
Chapter 18 Alpha Apartment
A man in his thirties, broad shoulders, caremal eyes and coco skin stood behind a large mahogany desk.
"Alpha, Luna." He greeted them then nodded to Sara. He didn't try to hide his curiosity at her presence.
"Benjamin, we have a new member to the pack. This is Sarah Allen. Sarah this is Benjamin Sheetz, Lake House Apartments security and manager. Any questions, just ask him I'm sure he'll most likely have answers." The Alpha explained with confidence. "We'll be needing an apartment on the 4th floor. 425 should be appropriate."
Benjamin's face showed a hint of curiosity and surprise but managed to erase it quickly.
"You can have someone bring up the packet of paperwork and her key to our suite." The Luna said. Benjamin nodded and assured them that it would be done within 20 minutes.
As soon as they entered the mirrored elevators Sarah spoke up explaining her biggest problem.
"Alpha, Luna. I really do appreciate you letting me join the pack but I think I'll need another place. I don't have the money for rent, not here." She admitted ashamed of her situation.
"You don't need to worry about that at the moment. As a new member of the pack it's our job to assist you until you can take care of yourself. If you would like we can assist you in training, finding a job, or furthering your education. Whatever you choose to do we can help you." The Luna said compassionately.
The elevator dinged. They exited into a wide hall way. Sarah follow them to the left. They also opened an unlocked door that led into a large apartment.
A cream sofa, matching loveseat, an armchair and ottoman set centered around a cream area rug. A small coffee table sat over the rug with a vase of peach carnations placed on its top. A large panting of a beautiful wooded area hung on the pale yellow accent wall. There were a few potted plants and trees placed around the room.
There were three doors leading from the space and one hallway. The flooring with hardwood arranged in an simple design.
"Have a seat." The alpha said.
Suddenly nervous, Sarah sat on one of the thick supple armchairs.
The Alpha couple set in the love seat. They both looked so at ease it almost allayed Sara's anxiety.
"The packet of papers explains how our pack works. It will detail the behavior expected of you and pack law." The Luna said.
"There are 3867 - 3868 members in the Lake Thorn Pack." The Alpha continued. He paused with questioning raised brows when Sara gasped.
"There are that many people in this building?" Sara asked in astonishment.
The Luna laughed good-naturedly. "No, honey, the complex only holds about a thousand residents. The others are housed in other areas of the pack territory."
"Oh, sorry." Sara said her cheeks a little warm.
"That's fine, Sara. You're new to this. It's expected you'll have questions." Then he switched back to the previous topic. "Almost all pack members have a rank. Barbara and I at the top, as Alpha and Luna. Directly below us are the Beta, Gamma, Delta, and Epsilon.
"The Beta is the second in command. His or her mate is the Gamma. Below them is the third in command, the Delta. The Delta's mate is the Epsilon. 90% of the time children grow up to be in the same rank as a parent. Until a child is mature it's an Omega." He paused and looked at the Luna.
"I'm sure you've probably heard this term before. In the wolf born the Omega is the lowest rank in the pack. In the Lycan Hierarchy its different. Children are the life's blood of a pack. With out them the pack would never grow or expand, it would simply cease to exist." The Luna explained.
"The pack protects children. All children. Even children from another pack fall under that protection.
"Although, technically you're not a child, as an unshifted wolf you would fall in that category." The Alpha told her. He shared a look with the Luna.
"When you find your mate you are his subordinate, at least until your first shift, unless you have shifted already." The Luna said searching Sara's face.
"Unfortunately, Evodin has made it clear that she is determined to shift at the first opportunity."
The Alpha spoke up from here. "As that would be be dangerous without extreme supervision,
We'll accompany you to the forest in a few nights. We'll be joined by the Beta and Gamma, Gabriel and Valerie Jarrett." He glanced at the Luna. "You've met Gabriel, he was with the delegation that went to meet you at the camp grounds."
Sara nodded, she remembered him. He had stood back by the male restrooms. She thought he didn't seem to like her much. Or maybe he was like that with everyone.
"We'll be going on four wheelers to the lake. Tonight's the second night of the full moon so it should be easier for you to shift. Don't worry about releasing control to Evodin. You'll have plenty of support to keep her in line." Luna said. She glanced over at the door, stood and walked over to the door. Just as she reached for the nob the doorbell jingled. She opened the door and smiled at the person on the other side. Sara could see only a hand reach out holding a thick large manilla envelope. The feminine hand had long slim fingers, red laquerd nails - like claws, and dangling gold chain brackets around the wrist.
"Thank you, Karen." Luna said and took the envelope. Luna didn't seem to have an interest in conversation with the woman. Despite the clear dismissal in her tone the woman didn't concede.
"You're welcome, Luna. I hear we have a new pack member." Said in a high female voice.
"Yes. She'll be staying on the fourth floor in apartment 425." The Luna informed the woman. From this angle the Lunas smile seemed to widen slightly.
"The fourth floor?" The woman asked her voice filled with sudden concern.
"Yes, Karen, the fourth floor." Luna said. Her tone clearly stating that the topic wasn't up for further discussion. "Excuse me." The Luna said politely and closed the door.
The Luna made her way back to the seating area. She handed the envelope to Sara.
"I feel I should warn you." Luna said as she sat on the love seat. "The woman that just left will not be a fan of yours. She has coveted a choice mate mating with Sebastian for two years."
Sara felt a chill in her chest when Luna spoke about Sebastian and this unknown, Karen.
Luna nodded to Alpha Alexander. She spoke out loud to him so Sara would hear. "We should tell her now that Karen knows of her existence."
Sarah knew she had missed some of the conversation.
"I see your point, love." He admitted.
They both turned back to Sara. Sara was curious what the woman at the door had to do with her. She also had questions about mates and now choice mates that hadn't been answered.
"Sebastian is your soul mate. He recognized you as Taron came out of the drug induced stasis."
"Huh? Soul mate? As in love?" Sara asked.
