CH. 6 Say My Name

He wasn't sure how she did it. She agreed to give him a pair of old sweats to make his hike. He followed her back in. She even removed some of the branches to accommodate his size. They talked in the living area before she went in search of the swears.

He sat on the end of the makeshift bed in the old sweats she found behind the curtain. She walked around the main fire pit and held out a cup of willow tea. He lifted his hand and took it. He was still reeling that she had gotten him to agree to stay for at least two days.

"It will help. You'll still feel it if you move wrong but it's better then nothing." She told him turning back to the counter. She filled a sauce pan with water from a five gallon bucket in a high nitche. She closed the spout and turned back to the fire. She put the pot at the edge of the fire with practiced ease.

She managed to never get close to him even as she moved around the space.

"You know I still don't know your name. I can't spend the next two days calling you Woman."

"I don't know yours either." She told him. Cleverly avoiding giving her name.

"Sebastian." He told her. He waited for her to give hers.

She opened a packet of Raman Noodles and placed it in the boiling water.

"Are you going to tell me your name?" He asked frustrated with her avoidance.

"You can call me whatever you want. It doesn't matter." She said as she studied the contents of the pot.

"You could just tell me."

She looked over at him. Her eyes guarded. She didn't want to tell him. She would be twenty-one in two months so she couldn't be taken by child services. But the mental health services were another matter. With her history they could say she was still crazy. "Does it really matter? You'll be gone in a few days. Call me Woman, or Violet, or Greenleaf." She shook her head and stood.

"Wonderful. Just glorious." He said sarcastically. "You obviously don't want me to be here. So why talk me into staying?"

For a moment he wasn't sure she would answer. She stood at the counter cutting strips of meat.

"I don't know." Her shoulders slumped. "I'm not good with people, okay?" She put the knife on the counter. She turned. "Still I put alot of effort into getting the bullet out of you. Why should I just let you wonder off and die ruining my hard work in the process?" She demanded. Angrily.

"Okay, Spitfire. Keep your secrets." He grinned trying to diffuse her anger.

She gave a sharp dismissive nod and turned back to the counter.

Through the next twentyfour hours he came up a multitude of names and nicknames. He didn't use the same one twice. Sometimes she rolled her eyes at him, glared at him, lifted an eyebrow. Only once did she look at him like she wanted to rip out his tongue. He made note not to reference Gloria or glow-girl again.

Sarah cooked the grubs for breakfast with eggs, spinach and potatoes. He refused to eat the grubs. Not even his wolf would have eaten the grubs he was sure.

He watched as she ate them. He couldn't help the gagging noise he made as she put the first one in her mouth. She didn't chew it she just swallowed.

"They're good for you. My traps didn't yield much yesterday and I wanted to save the rest of the rabbit for lunch." Told him and took a bite of the spinach, eggs and potatoes.

"I don't really care how good they are for you. I'm not eating that." he assured her with disgusted humor.

She laughed at him. "I guess it's a necessity thing. I don't like them either." She said with a half smile. "Haven't been in town in three weeks, so my choices are a bit limited."

"Three weeks?" He asked with an edge in his voice.

"Yes." she took a drink of water. "I won't have much choice next week but for now I'm just dealing with what I have and can forage from nature."

"You haven't been in town in 3 weeks?" he tried to keep the tension from his voice.

She sat her empty plate on her knees as she sat on the log before the fire pit.

"I just said that. You know, I should really check your wound before I go check my traps. Your thigh too." she said, picked up her plate then stood.

"I'm fine. I heal fast." he said as she put her plate on the counter. She turned to face him.

"I want to make sure its not getting infected." She studied his face her brow pinching slightly together. "You're really pale." she moved forward. "Shirt off." she said pointing at him and making a sweeping motion with her fingers.

For moment he couldn't get his thoughts in order. Her statement kept repeating in his head.

He unzipped the hoodie and slid it off his shoulders, taking care not to irritate the wound. As she came forward the smell of mint ingulfed him.

He pulled the scent into his nose. He felt his wolf stir in his subconscious. He closed his eyes and spoke directly to Taron.

Taron? But there was no answering reply.

He felt her touch his shoulder as she unwrapped the bandage. The touch sent a shiver through him as Taron tried to push to the surface again. All he could do was revel in the feel of her touch and scent of mint that seemed to surround her.

Sarah was glad his eyes were closed. At least he couldn't see her hand shaking, and without him looking at her she felt less self-conscious.

Evodin felt shaken with excitement everytime her fingers brushed his skin.

Sara inspected the shoulder wound. She had always been a fast healer but it seems that he was even faster than her. The wound looked at least 3 days old instead of just one that it had been. There was no redness or swelling so she no longer worried about the shoulder getting an infection.

"You're right. You heal fast. It looks good." She said and started wrapping the bandage back in place.

Man is sick. Evodin declared sadly.

Sara looked up at his face. He had a pained distracted look in his eyes.

"Sebastian?" Sarah said. Her heart sped up. "Sebastian," she repeated more demanding.

He blinked. "Sorry. I'm restless." He told her. He looked away from her intense gaze.

"Oh, okay." She told him. She didn't want to pry into his secrets, she had her own and she preferred that nobody pried into hers. She figured if he wanted to hurt her he could have done it already so it was best to leave it alone.

She realized she was still standing close to him her hand resting on his uninjured shoulder. She jerked her hand away. She moved back. As an excuse she started some of the willow tea. She didn't look at the injury on his thigh, his shoulder looked fine so she expected that his thigh did too.

"I have to check my traps." She pointed to the tea sitting at the edge of the fire pit. "Let it steep for one minute, but not more than two. I'll be back in a few hours." She paused at the doorway, she turned back to him. "Don't put any more wood on the fire, ok? I don't like it burning in daylight, unless I'm cooking." She quickly left after her statement not even waiting for his reply.
