CH. 12 Lycans Exist

"Your not crazy." He told her softly. He grunted and moaned as he sat up. "Your not crazy, Sara."

She looked away from his reassuring look. She wanted to believe him. But the evidence was against her.

"Lycans exist."

She turned back to him. "Lycans?"

He nodded. "Humans that can shift forms into wolves." He leaned back against the wall. His eyes closed for a moment in relief. Sara noticed that the sheet was laying really low. He had no tan line. But his man parts remained covered.

Sara wasn't sure what to think. It crossed her mind that he was making fun of her. No. He was in no condition to play a game like that. "Werewolves?"

He looked at her. "Yes - and no." He pulled the sheet up. His hip was covered and Sara wasn't sure how she felt about it.

"Now you think I'm crazy?" He asked her his voice threaded with humor.

She shook her head. "I don't know what I think. I was told I was crazy most of my life." She shrugged her shoulders. "But I know what I saw. I didn't imagine it." She looked at him thoughtfully. "They thought you were a wolf, Sebastian."

"I am, Sara." He said heavily. Her eyes grew large. Her mouth opened them closed.

"Change forms." She demanded.

"I was poisoned with wolfsbane. I can't shift until its completely out of my system. I can't communicate with my wolf. I can't link with my pack. It will take me a little longer to heal."

"I don't understand. Are you born able to change? What do you mean communicate?"

"Yes we're born. Lycans can communicate with their wolves in their heads. It starts when we're young, around three to seven. They can communicate with other wolves in their pack through a mental link. A pack is a community of lycans. They heal quicker than humans. They're stronger and faster then most humans." He grinned but it didn't hide the fact he felt pain. "Freaked out yet?"

"No." She denied. She looked at the entrance. "I don't know." She paused and Sebastian watched the thoughts and feelings play over her features. At one point she looked startled and her eyes saught his, held a moment, then looked away.

She looked away. She wanted to ask him about Evodin's comment, but was unsure what his reaction would be.

Ask him, Sara. Evodin begged. Sara could feel her anxious curiosity. She took a deep breath. "What do you mean, communicate in your head?" She asked but didn't look at him. She kept her eyes on the entrance.

"We hear our wolves in our heads. We talk to each other like you and I are now. My wolf's name is Taron." Sebastian watched as she turned her head and looked at him.

"You hear a - a voice in your head?" Her tone was soft, surprised, and he thought he heard acceptance.

"Not right now. The wolfsbane cuts me off from my wolf. I can still feel him sometimes." He knew his face probably showed his dislike that he felt being cut from his wolf.

"Are you okay?" She asked. Somehow the concern in her voice eased some of his pain.

"When the wolfsbane leaves my system I'll feel better." He assured her honestly.

Sara wanted to tell him about Evodin. But she knew she wasn't like him. She wasn't Lycan. She didn't change forms. It wasn't a wolf in her head. It was just a voice. A voice that proved she was crazy.

You're not crazy. I'm real. I'm Evodin. Evodin said in her head. I am real even if you don't want me to be.

Shut up, Ev.

"Sara?" Sebastian said trying to pull her back. She had a look he had seen hundreds of times. It was the look inexperienced lycans got when communicating with their wolves. It was that look that said someone was lost in thought.

Her face turned red and she looked at him.

"Sebastian." Barbara said as she entered. "Steven said you were awake." She inhaled deeply. She smiled at both of them but her eyes look lingered on Sara a few heartbeats longer. Her next words were to Sara. "How's the hand?"

Sara used her bandaged hand to wave. "Better. It's still numb." She smiled.

"Good. Well, you can rest assured the hunters won't be a problem for you now."

"Where they Lycan?" Sara asked. She needed Barbara to confirm it was true. Barbara's left eyebrow shot up.

"You knew?" She asked with an edge to her voice. "But you didn't tell me?"

"I - I - uh -" she stammered suddenly trembling. The emotion came from Evodin.

"She thought she was crazy, Luna. I explained when I woke up. She's new to this." Sebastian defined her.

"New?" Barbara ask. She didn't sound like she believed it at all. "Not too new I'll wager." She gave Sebastian a scathing look. He looked down at the bed. "You're cut from your wolf, Sebastian, so I understand your scences aren't what they should be." She moved closer. Leaning close to Sara she inhaled deeply. "Who is your pack, Sara? I can't smell them on you." She glanced around the room. "From the looks of it you've been here a long time."

"I - what?" Sara asked. She looked just as confused as she sounded. "I'm not able to turn into a wolf."

"Maybe not yet. You're what? Fifteen, sixteen? Some wolves take longer to shift." Barbra said. Sara shook her head admittedly.

"I'm twenty." Sara said. Evodin trembling in her head.

Barbara inhaled. "I smell your wolf."

Gabriel entered the opening. "Luna?" He ask. He stood straight and Sebastian noticed. He knew that Luna Barbara and the enforcer Bata Gabriel were mind linking. Gabriel moved forward. Steven entered.

Sara felt the need to shrink. Everyone, except Sebastian, was looking directly at her.

"Sara, are you really twenty as you told Luna Barbara?" Steven asked. His voice was gentle but demanding. She nodded.

"Luna, she is twenty. Her birthday is two months away." Sebastian spoke up. All eyes turned to him.

"How do you know that. I never told you that." Sara twisted to look at him and demanded. She stood and took a few steps away.

The other three Lycans watched the interaction intently.

"I told you I was hired by the lawyer to find a woman that was missing. You. I was hired to find you." He spoke softly, trying to reassure her with his voice.

For a moment she just stared at him. Her eyes bored into him suspiciously. Anger tinged her cheeks. Hope flared in her eyes before she gasp.

"Gloria! Gloria sent you!" She exclaimed. Her heart jumped up excitement. Even Evodine mentally jumped excitedly i n her head.
