"해원누나! 이리와요!" (Haewon noona ! Come here!), I heard my name being called. So I rushed downstairs from my room where I found Elijah. I picked Elijah up with a bright smile on my face. "What is it, huh ? Are you hurt ?" Cutely Elijah smiled as he pointed out the window. That is when I had seen her. Our mother. 

"엄마는요, 엘리야? 그녀는 다쳤나요?" (What about mom, Elijah ? Is she hurt ?) He nodded. As I focused my attention, it was easy to tell that my mother was crying. My father' grave was in the yard & she was crying once again. It's been about a year since we lost my father, but the pain of him being gone was still intense for everyone in this house. 

I sent Elijah to play with some toys while I went to try to comfort my mother. My mother wiped her face as soon as she noticed I sat with her. "You didn't have to come check on me, Haewon ah. I am fine." I sighed as I looked at my father' grave, "You've been neglecting Elijah, Mom. He is beginning to notice that you're always out here crying your eyes out..." My little brother doesn't have much memory of our father, but that didn't mean he wasn't saddened by the loss.

My mother nodded sadly. "You're right, Haewon ah. I've been neglecting you since your father..." I grabbed my mother' hand. I couldn't stand seeing her cry like this, "Dad was a wonderful father, Mom. That won't change because he has died..." The conversation got redirected. "Don't you have plans ? Go out with your friends, Haewon ah. I will take care of Elijah."

"확실하나요? 집에 있을 수 있어요." (Are you sure ? I can stay home.) My mother shook her head with a smile as she looked at me. "Go spend time with your friends. I can handle things here." I decided to trust my mother & grabbed my things before saying my goodbyes to Elijah. 

It wasn't long before I met up with my friends at a restaurant. "What took you so long, Haewon ? We almost started ordering without." I sat down as I gave a smile. "I had to help out at home. Elijah needed my attention. Sorry, I am late." My friend' ignored this with a few laughs as we ordered. This is when the light atmosphere turned a bit cold. 

"그들이 괴물법을 개정하고 있다고 들었어요. 여러분은 그것에 대해 어떻게 생각하나요?" (I heard they are amending the Monster Law. What do you guys think about that ?), one of my friends asked as he looked at his phone where I assume he learned the news. "What ? Why would they do that ? Things are good." 

"더러운 흡혈귀들이 법 개정을 요청했을 것입니다. 윽, 역겨워요." (The filthy bloodsuckers must have asked for the law to be amended. Ugh, disgusting.) I drank some water before weighing in my answer. "They are vampires. Besides they have every right to want to amend that atrocious law. Am I wrong ?"

"Haewon ah, you can't sympathize with them. They technically aren't even alive anymore. Who says they'll give you the same kindness if our roles were reverse because of the Monster Law ?" I couldn't handle it. All this talk made me sick. I rushed to the bathroom. Throwing up as soon as I was in a stall. 

This went on for a few minutes before I came out of the stall to clean myself up a bit. I always hated talking about the Monster Law & hearing the horrid things some people said about vampires. Especially with the secret I was keeping...

A woman slid over a pill bottle to me. She skin was extremely pale, her eyes a honey color, & her fangs showed as she primped herself in the mirror beside me. We were the only ones in here. I looked at the pill bottle. Blood vitamins. "그 알약을 두 알 드세요. 당신은 정말 약해 보여요."(Take two of those pills. You seem really weak.) I looked at her as I subconsciously touched my stomach. Could she tell my secret just from looking at me ? Who was she ? "Uh... Thank you."

The woman smiled as I handed her the bottle back once I took two pills out. Then I was alone once more as the woman walked out.  I soon joined my friends again as I grabbed my things. I needed to head home. "Nam Haewon !", I heard of my friends call out to me as I walked out. I ignored them & made my way home.

My house was dark as I entered it. "Mom ? Elijah ?" I got no response. So I made way into the yard. "Noona !", Elijah yelled excitedly as he ran into my arms. The woman from the restaurant smiled as she & my mother also noticed I was home. "Who is this, Mom ? Why is she here ?"
