Holy Chicken Nuggets .-.
I woke up to a young girl shaking me awake. That little girl would be my sister Mariposa, who would always be the one to wake me up, if I wouldn't get up in time. I looked around and wondered what time it was, although I assumed it would be 6:05. Mostly because that would be the time she usually wakes me up. I sat up in my bed and stretched my arms up. I looked at her. How could she already be 12? Up close she looked like a 10 year old girl, but she wasn't. She just went up a rank last friday.
Each rank is based on your age group. You never really got anything until you turned 12. Though once you did, you would have to dress differently, apply for your daily jobs to find out what you like, you would be present for every execution and stuff like that. Not that turning 12 was anything special, even if you were younger than that you still had a very high chance of dying on June 18.
"Mom says to get ready Anza..." Mariposa said softly, before turning around and heading downstairs to the kitchen. I nodded my head and headed to my closet where it had all the identical clothes of a normal 15 year old, such as myself. Something I did notice was a small beeping coming from the compartment wall. The purpose of the little screen in the wall was to alert you what to wear, so everyone would be in precise order for your day. Nothing too special today, just our normal school uniforms
I quickly put on the drab school outfit, and was about to go downstairs before I realized a rule I was about to break. I grabbed a small hair tie and quickly did my hair into a long braid down my back. No real reason for that rule, but every girl was to have her hair tied in a neat braided bun or a braid. I made my way downstairs and saw my sister fidgeting in her new outfit, while my mother was tying my sisters long light brown hair in a braided bun.
I was already ready and glanced at the clock.
JUNE 12 2014 - 6:25 AM.
Just a few more days until extermination day. 6 to be exact.
"Go along Esperanza." My mother said, she saw how figity I was to get out of the house. "Okay Mom..." I said as I signed out of the compartment with my fingerprint, and started to make my way to Andy's house. Theoretically I should be on my way to school, but I don't check into school until 6:54, so I would be okay. I made my way to compartment 434. It wasn't too far due to the fact I lived in compartment 425. I technically wasn't allowed to cross into the woods, but that was honestly one of the fastest ways to Andy's compartment, well at least to the makeshift wall that I would bang on to let him know I was here.
Makeshift walls were common in the community, due to the fact that in 1933 there was a huge war. Well war would be an overstatement, a mass genicoide really. Many compartments were damaged including 434, so they used makeshift walls to hold the darn thing together. They didn't last, but they were sturdy enough to last at least until the next extermination day, when they would usually get knocked down by people fleeing the officials.
Anyway I made my way to the makeshift wall and banged my hand on it. I quickly walked to the front of the compartment, where I heard a long buzz
"Who...Dares...Enter?"
I grinned, Knowing it was Andy messing around with the buzzer so people could theoretically tell who was at the door.
"The Purge Gang!" I exclaimed he and I knew full well that everyone joke around about extermination day...well that is until we were on death's door
The buzz ended and the door slid open, another makeshift door that his family had. "Hey Anza!" He exclaimed. I smiled and greeted him back.
As we started walking we spoke politely out in public. Not wanting people to know we mock things of the past and our officials. If about right on cue at 6:45, we were in line, waiting to check into school, our friend Ashlyn caught up to us with her brother Andrew. It was unnatural for twins to be present in the community, but here they were.
At 6:53 they were starting to check us in with a little blood sample, and fingerprint.Where the group of friends would split up and "learn" for the day.

It was 12:35 when I made my way out of the school with black ink on my arm. The ink on my arm was my job assignment for the day.
ENTERTAINMENT OFFICE 620
I sighed deeply. I absolutely hated going to the entertainment office, any time I would go there they would always force me into the exact same 2 jobs. Either helping the bland radio host to say random things about our community. Or helping the news anchor, again to say random things about our community.
"What did you get?" I heard Andy say. I turned to him "Oh just the Entertainment Office" I said.
"Ouch" He said. After a minute he spoke again "Want me to walk you in?" He asked me. I Shook my head. To do that he would break his own schedule. I assured him I would be okay and instead walked towards the entertainment building even if I didn't have to be there just yet. Rethinking the introduction I would have to give myself
Hello, My name is Esperanza. I am a 15 in the community. Today I will spend my time here in the entertainment business.
That's all I basically had to say, in a monotone voice while holding a paper pretending I'm reading from it. Though most of the time it would be a script.
I made my way inside the entertainment building. Before I even took three steps in a guard stopped me and opened the palm of his hand. I sighed and extended my left arm. With that they looked at my arm and flashed a bright red light.
This light found the tracker in my arm. Every day, every waking hour they would check your tracker to make sure it's in its place. All trackers are put in a person's left forearm. Guard let go of my arm and opened the door to let me in. I walked in and encountered another door. There was another guard who took my right arm and gently stabbed my finger with a needle. With that they checked my blood and DNA. The door opened and the guard let me walk through it.
After another 20 feet another guard came and made me place my bloody finger on a sensor where they would check my blood and DNA again - as if I was a completely different person in the 20 feet I just walked - and let me continue walking into the main part of the building. There I just walked around while I was surrounded by radio hosts reading over their scripts. News Anchors yelling at their partners in crime. Other teens are running around trying to please the elder people.
Along this mess were cameraman who have broken cameras, dead cameras, or are in the process of dying. Editors trying to figure out who goes first.
I rolled my eyes heading into the office I was dedicated to 620. I made my way through the hallways and ended up in front of 620. I braced myself for the hate I would get, and was extremely worried. I knocked very gently on the door and opened it to see another teen. As if I was being controlled I stuck out my arm for them to check if I was in the correct place. They nodded their heads and told me to come in.

I walked out at 5:25 pm tiredly. Being a semi-radio host for the day seriously tired me out. I had to get back at 6:00pm for our daily announcements. I was too tired to take the long way so I decided to go through the woods. Theoretically the woods were forbidden for citizens. I would always sneak through the woods at about 5:35 because the guards would be changing positions and It would be easier to sneak in every hour. Sense I have been doing this I could very well be executed for going beyond the fence yards, but I would always be careful who to take to the woods and when I would go to them.
As I started my daily walk through the woods I started to think about this life. Very perfect, very circular. What I mean by that is everyone is perfect, like a circle, that's the point. That's your point in life. I thought about what would happen if I was caught out here, probably a very happy trip to the rehabilitation center. Nobody really knew what happened when you were sent down there, I've never talked to someone who has been sent there, mostly because they were sent to a different living compartment, a different job set, and were required to go to the rehabilitation center every day. Or something like that.
Not something I would look forward to in my day to day life, and not something I would ever put my sister through. Or even put myself through that. Do I look like an idiot? After about a 15 minute walk I made it to the fence closest to my house. To get to the other side I would usually climb a tree and just jump over the fence. Within 5 minutes I make it back to my house and unlock the compartment. I make it back with 5 minutes to spare while my mother and sister are getting ready for the news broadcast. I quickly ran up to the room and placed my bag in its place and undid my hair since those rules didn't apply while you were in the house, And thus ended the day.

I wrote this last year for a project, I totally forgot this existed
Basically we had to write a short dystopian world, and I went overboard with 10 pages-
I only shared the first 2 and a half pages, I honestly am so tempted to make this into a full length book-
Will I?
Perhaps
I also Have a short play that I wrote that will be in the next chapter cuz it makes me laugh
