Soooo I was kinda listening to Lullaby for a Princess....

It's a really beautiful song. I'd recommend listening to it, even if you're not a fan of MLP.

Anyways...
As I listened, a thought came to my mind.

It also kind of fits Monika and Sayori in my opinion.

Before you scream at me, let me explain.
*SPOILERS*

It's stated in the game that Monika is the most popular girl in the school, and in the song, Celestia sings, "Once did a pony, who shone like the sun, look out on her kingdom and sigh; she smiled and said, 'Surely there is no pony so lovely and so well-beloved as I.'"

Monika is ALSO the president of the Literature Club ("So great was her reign, so brilliant her glory, that long was the shadow she cast") and obsessed with the main character, to the point where she (presumably) begins to hurt Sayori, the vice president and probably her closest friend before the character came along ("Which fell dark upon the young sister she loved, and grew only darker as days and nights passed").

My theory is that Monika and Sayori were close friends before Sayori brought the character to the club, and that's what set off Monika's madness. I mean, why else would Sayori be vice president? And how else would Monika know so much about her?...despite being able to literally break the game.

Anyways, that's besides the point.

If you look in the game's files, you'll find a file that has something at the end, probably a note from Monika. It goes a little something like this:

"Oh great, I hope I didn't break anything! Actually, you know what? This would probably be easier if I just delete her. She's the one making this so difficult, anyway."

Idk, I don't remember it completely, but it was along the lines of that.

The reason I brought this up is because Monika clearly didn't want to do anything bad, but had to so she could be with the main character, whom she loved.

She even tinkered with Sayori's depression ("she watched as her sister's unhappiness grew") to make her even more upset to the point she literally HUNG herself, even if Monika didn't mean to make that happen ("But such is the way of the limelight; it sweetly takes hold of the mind of its host, and that foolish pony did nothing to stop the destruction of one who had needed her most").

She NEVER wanted this to happen. She just wanted to get the main character to hate everyone else so she could be with him. How do I know? She explained it at the end of the game, AND there are various files that explain that. Don't believe me? Download the game and see for yourself. (I think you have to play it a little before those files appear, though.)

Back to the comparison...

I can imagine that Monika was upset about Sayori killing herself. I mean, in my opinion they were probably close friends. Also, keep in mind that Monika DIDN'T delete anyone until AFTER they died (except for Natsuki, apparently; she was still alive, but just got deleted). I mentioned this because I can imagine before the player found out about Sayori hanging herself, Monika discovered it by accident and was grieved (this basically goes for most of the chorus: "Lullay, moon princess; goodnight, sister mine; rest now in moonlight's embrace; bear up my lullaby, winds of the earth, through cloud, and through sky, and through space; carry the peace and the coolness of night and carry my sorrow in kind"). Monika knows the main character loved everyone, probably Sayori most since he knew her longest ("Luna, you're loved so much; more than you know;") and NO ONE wanted Sayori to be depressed or upset ("may troubles be far from your mind"). The only reason Monika deleted or tampered with anyone is because she had gone insane and was blinded by love ("and forgive me for being so blind...").

(Pause for instrumental break) (just because)

Of course, it's clearly seen in the game how everyone seems more hostile and angry whenever Sayori is gone, so I can imagine that Monika may have been slightly afraid after Sayori was deleted due to both Natsuki's and Yuri's behavior ("The years now before us, fearful and unknown; I never imagined I'll face them on my own"). At the very end of the game, she reveals the real truth about what she did...even if she never said she cared about anyone (except for the main character), I still believe she did ("May these thousand winters swiftly pass, I pray; I love you...I miss you...all these miles away...")

After everyone's deleted, she finally says goodbye to them and basically her whole world as she deletes everything and everyone for good ("May all your dreams be sweet tonight safe upon your bed of moonlight, and know not of sadness, pain, or care, and when I dream, I'll fly away and meet you there. Sleep...sleep...sleep...")

(Dramatic banging of drums)

...but yeah, that's why I think that song works for them.
Do you agree? Do you disagree? What do you think?

I'm curious to hear any opinions on this, if you have any...
If not, that's fine too. I don't wanna force you.

But anyways...
Yeah.

I'll leave you alone now.
