[A/N: MC LORE! MC LORE!!]

Y/n and Atsushi were back at the agency in order to get their wounds patched up. They have already escorted the ladies to the safe house and Dazai needed to be somewhere at the moment, so it really only left the two of them, Kunikida, Tanizaki, and the prisoner at the agency.

Even with what had happened, Y/n still tried to make sure that Atsushi was okay. It rubbed Atsushi off in the wrong way. Why would someone who was much more injured than him care about him? Not only that be he was the one who caused the injuries on Y/n and yet Y/n still cares about him. Wanting to get his mind off the situation at hand he went to the prisoner in get information on where Kyoka was at. This left Y/n and Kunikida in the agency together as Tanizaki was on a phone call with his sister.

Y/n couldn't help but pick at the bandages on his neck and the small one on his cheek. He didn't get Yosano's healing since he deemed it unnecessary. However, that left him with a small cut on his cheek from being scratched and heavy bruise marks in Atsushi's hand shape.

"You know you shouldn't be picking on it," Kunikida spoke out with a small cup of tea in his hands.

Y/n looked up from behind his hair as he gave Kunikida a small smile. "I know," he claims. "But I only really need this for a day and I'll be healed, I promise. Because of that, do I really need to wear these bandages? I don't think they're needed..." His voice sounds worn but not raspy like how a normal person who was just choked out would be.

Kunikida shook his head as he placed the tea in front of Y/n. "Yes, you do. The human body needs to recover a little bit even if the fight was not huge. Sometimes I feel like you don't know anything about medical procedures..."

Y/n glanced to the side as he sipped his tea. "The human body truly in a wonder even to humans today."

Kunikida stayed silent for a moment. He observed Y/n's behavior. How can someone be so calm despite almost dying from being choked out? Not only that by they had put the person that was choking them above themselves. Sometimes, Kunikida thinks that the ability 'No Longer Human' should belong to Y/n and not Dazai. Maybe that way work actually gets done.

"Y/n," Kunikida spoke up after some thought.

"Kuni?" Y/n answered, taking notice on how soft Kunikida's voice went.

"You're... okay, right?"

"Why wouldn't I be?"

Kunikida's eyes looked distant. "You don't... value your life like the rest of us. Well, that Dazai being an exception... But... whenever you have a mission, or even one of your personal commissions, it's almost like... you go out of your way to be put into dangerous positions. I know that your ability will let you heal faster than normal people, therefore not needing Yosano's healing, but still... it worries me..."

Although Y/n's hair was blocking Kunikida's view of his eyes, he knew that Y/n was looking at him, staring at him with those glossy (e/c) eyes. Sometimes, Kunikida missed those beautiful eyes. It was rarely shown, and seeing both eyes was almost impossible to see. But Kunikida would like to imagine that their beauty overruled everyone else's, even those with two colors.

"Can I tell you a secret?"

Kunikida perked up. "Yes, of course," he muttered.

Y/n leaned closer to Kunikida, and whispered in his ear, "It's because I will never die. I will live longer than anyone in the world. Longer than Kyoka, longer than you, longer than time itself." Kunikida felt a chill go down his spine as his eyes widened. Y/n continued, "My curse. My ability. It will never let me die a pitiful death. It wants something in return so I can be able to die, and I will never, never, do what it tells me to do. For want it wants is complete control over my body."

An ability that has a mind of its own, its own wants, its own needs. A person who is nothing but a host but needs total concentration in order to control said ability. Together, Kunikida finally realized, that Y/n was not a human. A being, yes. But a breathing, living human... that was not what Y/n was, because humans are born then die.

Y/n pulled away from Kunikida as their faces were close but not touching. "Do you understand me, Kuni?" He asks.

Kunikida's eyes lowered a bit still gazing at Y/n. "Yes." His voice was soft.

"Good, good." Y/n raised his hand and pushed his hair out of the way, gazing at Kunikida with both of his (e/c) eyes. "I trust you, alright?" A bit of electric-like matter flicked off of Y/n's cheek as, in the shadow of Y/n's hair, a small bit of that matter looked like it was facing Kunikida as well.

"Yes, Y/n. Of course," Kunikida muttered as he leaned slightly closer to Y/n.

Y/n smiled as he placed a hand on Kunikida's cheek. "That's a good boy."

Y/n leaned in and kissed Kunikida on the lips. Kunikida, although on the inside was shocked, closed his eyes slowly as he enjoyed this moment with Y/n. After everything that has been happening, he had not gotten an ounce of Y/n's affection. He had not realized how much he missed it until now.

Y/n pulled away as he stood up from his seat. Kunikida was quick to follow him as a small stinging sensation was still on his lips to which he ignored. He took in a deep breathe to regain his composer as he patted down his vest.

Kunikida was about to talk but the door where the prisoner was being held in opened. Out came Atsushi with a distance look on his face as he closed the door behind him. A phone in hand as he read the text messages Dazai had just sent him.

"Lad," Kunikida called out as he and Y/n walked up to the were-tiger. "Is everything alright?"

Atsushi looked up, only expecting to see Kunikida but when he noticed that Y/n was there, he flinched and immediately looked away. "Yeah," he spoke but his voice was soft almost fill with thoughts and regret. "Dazai said that he's going to meet me up somewhere so that we can go out on patrol. I should be leaving."

"Hold on, sweetie," Y/n spoke up as he softly grabbed onto Atsushi's shoulder. "The director said that no one should go out by themselves, so I'll go with you and stay with you until Dazai picks you up, okay?"

"A-Ah! No! It should be fine! I should be fine. Besides, don't you have your own patrol to do?" Atsushi tried to assure.

Kunikida narrowed his eyes as he crossed his arms. "Lad..." His warning.

Atsushi flinched comically as he glanced at Y/n for some help, but the other was only chuckling lightly. He sighed, defeated. "Okay."

Y/n gave a soft chuckle.

Y/n had his elbows on the railing as his back was to the large manmade lake. Next to him was Atsushi with his phone in hand and gazing at the lake. The two said nothing but Atsushi couldn't help but feel like there was heavy tension in the air that he couldn't shake off. It made the hair on the back of his neck stand on end.

"Sweetie," Y/n's voice called out, making the other flinch and quickly look at him. "Is there something on your mind?"

Atsushi said nothing, looking down from his phone and onto the lake.

Y/n couldn't help but sigh as he turned to Atsushi. "Don't give me that, I know there's something bothering you. It's not healthy to keep those emotions down, sweetie."

Atsushi thought for a moment as he looked back at his phone. His eyes lingered on the star charm that Y/n had gifted him since Y/n was the one to have given the phone to him. Now that he thought about it Y/n gave him a lot of things and yet asked nothing in return. This feeling... it felt foreign to him.

"When I..." Atsushi hesitated, almost like he was stepping on hot coal when talking. "When I hurt you... Were you not... mad?" He looked up at Y/n with pleading eyes. "You care so much and when I hurt you, you didn't turn your back on me. Why? Wouldn't a normal person do that?"

Y/n stared at Atsushi for a moment before he sighed, making Atsushi perk up. "Let me tell you a story. I was just like you in the past."

"Really?"

"Really." Y/n smiled. "An orphan who wondered the streets never knowing where he went, what he ate, and where he slept. But one day, I stumbled into a restaurant. The owner was about to put a bullet through my head due to him thinking that I was an intruder." He laughed. "But when he realized that I was just a kid, he took me in.

"He taught me a lot of lessons; cooking, cleaning, how to not get scammed, all that stuff. And that restaurant owner had a friend, someone who was blank-faced and, to be honest, a little scary for me." Atsushi then laughed lightly. "Yes, yes, laugh. But it was because of those two that I became who I am today.

"One day, I had a really bad day. A customer kept shouting at me, another demanding something I couldn't provide, and overall, just an off day. I needed to get air, so I went into the nearby forest and released my anger, my ability. However..." Y/n trailed off. "...I did not know that someone had followed me to try and console me.

"I was young, I didn't have full control over my power yet. The restaurant owner, someone I hold dear to, someone I had seen as my own father, was caught in the crossfire of my anger... He could've died that day, I know it. He was lucky that he only got a charred arm. If he hadn't protected himself... I'm sure he would've lost half of his face."

Atsushi could hear the guilt in Y/n's voice. Y/n talked with so much delicacy and remorse it was almost hard not to know that Y/n regrated his actions. Atsushi stared at Y/n for a moment longer. If Y/n's hair wasn't in his eyes, Atsushi was sure he could see the distant look on Y/n's face.

"What..." Atsushi muttered. "What happened next?"

"What happened next..." Y/n repeated to himself. He gave a light chuckle as he smiled. "I cried."

Atsushi's eyes widened. It was hard to imagine Y/n crying.

Y/n laughed a bit. "Yeah. I cried a whole bunch that night. I kept apologizing over and over to him. But you know what that old geezer did? He just laughed. He held me as he tried his best to comfort me. Yeah, he was in pain, but his first priority was to comfort me.

"He was an old man, but..." Y/n laughed. "...I loved him so much. He never gave up on me, he never scolded me because of who or what I was, and he loved me for just being a kid." He looked at Atsushi, his hair splitting so that Atsushi can see the warmth in his eyes. "So, I'm doing the same with you.

"Yeah, you hurt me. But I would never blame you for it. You know why? Because I know it wasn't your fault."

Atsushi felt tears build up in his eyes. "Y/n..." He trailed off.

Y/n chuckled. "Come on, say it with me. 'It wasn't my fault'."

"No... Y/n, I couldn't. I-..."

"Atsushi..."

Atsushi sniffed as he could feel tears stream down his eyes. "It wasn't... It wasn't my fault." He was hesitant.

Y/n smiled as he pulled Atsushi closer to him. "Again."

"It wasn't my fault."

"Again."

"It wasn't my fault!"

"That's my sweetie," Y/n claims, a beaming smile on his face. "See? It wasn't your fault." He laughed as he put his forehead on Atsushi's. "You are amazing, Atsushi. Never forget that."

Atsushi cried as he rubbed his forehead on Y/n's, finding comfort in the gesture. "Y/n... Y/n... Thank you, thank you so much."

Y/n laughed as he ruffled Atsushi's head and wiped away his tears. "Oh, sweetie. You're such a crybaby."

Atsushi pulled away as he smiled. He let out his own small laughter as Y/n held his face with such care that Atsushi felt like he might get a sweet tooth. He finally calmed himself from crying, sniffling a little but still keeping his calm smile.

"That's my sweetie," Y/n beamed. "Feeling better now?" Atsushi nodded to him. "That's good. Now, how about you text Dazai? I have a feeling that he will be late to pick you up."

"Dazai?" Atsushi muttered before perking up. "Oh! You're right!" He almost forgotten that he had a job to do. He pulled out his phone and rushed to text Dazai, Y/n right over his shoulder.

Some time went by, and nothing was heard from Dazai. Y/n and Atsushi made light conversation as they waited, both having a small smile on their lips as they both felt much better than when they first came to the spot.

"Sorry to keep you waiting." A voice spoke up.

"Hm?" Atsushi hummed but his eyes suddenly widened.

Y/n was imminently on guard as he stepped in front of Atsushi and glared at the person before the two.

Fitzgerald smirked at Atsushi and Y/n, finding amusement in their helpless actions. "To someone who owns an awful lot of cash and some very outstanding subordinates, the largest enemy is... boredom," he states, a carefree tone in his voice.

"It's a problem that can't be solved with either money or ability."
