"Hm? Oh, is that Atsushi and Ranpo?" Y/n questioned as he was holding Dazai's arm while they both walked together.
Dazai raised a brow before looking to where Y/n was at. "Well, won't you look at that, it is. How about we go say hi?" He teased a bit with a smirk on his face.
Y/n couldn't help but chuckle at Dazai's teasing as their path strayed away from the concrete and they walked over to Ranpo and Atsushi. Some police officers tried to stop them, but Dazai and Y/n clearly ignored them as they were trying to be stopped.
"Stop right there!" An officer yelled out which made the two officers with Ranpo and Atsushi turn to what was happening.
"Y/n?! Dazai too?!?" Atsushi called out in shock as he went up to the two.
"Ah, sweetie, good to see you out here." Y/n smiled.
"We were just strolling by and noticed this spectacular scene! We just had to join in." Dazai claimed as he pulled Y/n closer to him.
Atsushi furrowed a brow at Dazai's action but didn't say anything about it. "I- Well, what are you two doing here anyways? Just a moment ago, you two were at the agency, right?"
Y/n let out a small sigh as Dazai could only chuckle as dramatically lean onto him. "This boy decided it was a good idea to skip out on the job and wonder here for an 'extra' break. I had to come get him before Kunikida blew a fuse. However, I got caught in his little game of cat and mouse." He smiled as he pulled on Dazai's ear making him whine. "But as you can tell, I've caught him and bringing him back as soon as possible."
Dazai had a tear in the corner on his eye as he tried to pull away from Y/n. "Owww! Ow, ow, ow! So mean, my dear! You're going to pull my ear off!"
Atsushi could only deadpan at his superiors. Sometimes he wonders how some people, like Dazai, could get a job in just a serious job like detective work. Ranpo couldn't help but chuckle at his co-workers. He then noticed the chief coming up to him.
"Have them escorted out imme-!" The chief was cut off by Ranpo raising his hand.
"No need, officer!" Ranpo said proudly as he walked up to the two detectives and held out a hand to them while looking at the chief. "These two are co-workers of mine. They might be of help to this little case. I demand that they stay! So, do you mind tell them what happened here?"
The chief hesitated for a moment before sighing. "Of course... Detective Ranpo..." He knew that it wouldn't be wise to go against Ranpo, at least, for now.
───◇──◇─◇
"So... that's what happened here..." Y/n mumbled as he let out a hum while inspecting the woman's body who was murdered.
"My god!" Dazai cried out in surprise. "A young flower, in the prime of her life... Cruelly robbed of her very future!!"
Y/n put a hand where his heart would be as he seemed to have a solum resting frown on his face. "Truly, it's a shame. She seems to be around our age too. However, I'm sure our 'world's greatest detective' will be able to solve this in no time, am I correct, Ranpo?"
Ranpo let out a disappointed smile. "They have not yet requested my assistance..." He claimed with a small pout. "Hmph, what a conundrum for a master detective."
Y/n tilted his head to the side slightly before glancing at the chief. "You did ask him to be here, let him do his job."
The chief flinched.
Ranpo suddenly noticed at fidgety officer. He quickly pointed at them and exclaimed, "You! What's your name!?"
"Me??" The officer flinched before saluting. "Officer Sugimoto! I worked under Ms. Yamagiwa, the deceased. Sir!"
Ranpo patted Sugimoto on the shoulder. "Okay, Sugimoto, you're the detective now! Solve this case for us within 60 seconds!!"
Sugimoto's eyes practically bulged out of his sockets from Ranpo's words. "WHA-?! I! Uh...! Whaaa-?! Only 60 seconds?!"
"It's 50 seconds now~" Ranpo taunted.
Sugimoto stuttered over his words. "W-Wait! About Yamagiwa... her beat was pursuing political corruption and mafia activity! And also... this is how the mafia kills their targets right?! Maybe she was killed but someone in the mafia she was investigating?? Maybe they paid a hitman or-!"
"Wrong."
"Huh...?" Sugimoto paused as he looked up at both Y/n and Dazai.
"A hitman would never dispose a fresh body in a body of water where there is a lot of people." Y/n said pointing up a finger. "This is elementary knowledge, my dears. Not only that, but a hit would be a one hit, a quick kill to the head would work. All the hitman wants is money, so a quick in and out is needed. Three random bullets to the chest and beatings are all amateur moves. However, if it were a mafia hit..."
"...It would be akin to a calling card." Dazai answered. "It is proof of their presence. The mafia's modus operandi for traitors is to fir force them to bite the curb, and then deliver a kick to the back of the head, shattering their jaw. As the victim writhes in pain, they turn the poor soul around and fire three shots in the chest. These bullets are calculated and shot so that the two first shot make the traitor feel agonizing pain, before the last shot puts them out of their misery."
Y/n covered his mouth slightly with his fingers. "Truely an awful way to go out..."
"You're..." Sugimoto muttered. "You're right... Both of you... actually..."
Dazai gazed down at the body and calculated where all the bullets were at. "Though it resembles their methods, this is not the mafia's handiwork. In other words... the killer was trying to deceive us!"
"So... the culprit shot the corpse twice more just to make it look like a mafia job...?" Sugimoto concluded with a solum look on his face. "Awful..."
"BZZZT! All right, time's up!!" Ranpo cheered as he patted Sugimoto's head. "That's most certainly not master-detective material, there!"
"Sugar, what did I say about being nice?" Y/n asked with his arms crossed in front of his chest.
Ranpo only chuckled while sticking his tongue out.
"Oi! Listen, you...!" The chief called out as Ranpo turned to him with a comfortable frown. "All I've been hearing from you is 'deduction' this and 'master detective' that, all that dime novel nonsense! An investigation is all about careful research, questioning, and evidence gathering!!"
"Huhh?? You still don't get it do you?" Ranpo droned out as he leaned closer to the chief in slight mockery. "Master detectives don't 'investigate.' Once I trigger my super deduction skill... I'll immediately know the who, the when, and the how!"
Ranpo smirked as his eyes opened slightly. "And not only that... I'll know where the evidence is and how to make the killer confess, like a divine revelation!"
The chief furrowed his brows and narrowed his eyes as he pointed at Ranpo accusingly. "Don't give me that bullshit! If you had such power, the entire force would be out of their jobs!"
"That's exactly the point." Y/n commented, his hair parted slightly as he glared at the chief. "It's about time you understood, sir. Now, quit disrespecting the detective that you request for..."
The chief irked as he gritted his teeth. He was the chief for god's sake, he could be respected too. He was about to shout out and yell at the two detectives, but someone stepped in between him and the detectives first.
"Now, now, calm down~" Dazai cooed slightly as he was the one who stepped in between the two. "Ranpo always behaves in this manner, and Y/n will give you his respect as long as you give him yours. No need to get angry!"
"Yes! My moto, after all, is..." Ranpo cheered. "'As long as I'm good, everything's good!'"
'I've never heard such an honest motto...' Atsushi thought.
Moto: All is good as long as I'm alive.
Dazai scratched the back of his head smiling to himself as he already knew his moto.
Moto: A pure bright dignified suicide.
Y/n could only sigh as he shook his head, already wanting to head back home.
Moto: If you can't beat them, seduce them and their wives.
"Very well. Prove it to me!" The chief claimed. "Show me your ability!"
"Oh? Is that a formal request?" Ranpo questioned with a smile.
"Yes! A request for you to make an ass of yourself!!"
Ranpo smirked then he let out a laugh. "Ahahah! A shame you could not be that cooperative from the beginning."
The chief huffed. "You sure brim with confidence considering the utter lack of info to work with. Should I count out 60 seconds for you?"
Ranpo's smile seemed to widen. "I won't need that long..."
"Remember what I told you at the agency, sweetie?" Y/n asked as he leaned down to Atsushi, to which need nodded with a confused look in his eyes. "Good. Keep your eyes on him. He is the reason why the agency keeps going..."
Atsushi eyes couldn't help but widened slightly. He stared at Ranpo, who's outerwear seemed to flutter in the wind like a butterfly. He watched as Ranpo pulled out a pair of glasses and put them on his face, his eyes opened to let the whole world see who he was.
"Super Deduction!"
There was a moment of silence as Ranpo had to process all the information in his head. "Ah-hah..."
"So? You know the perp?" The chief questioned.
"I do!" Ranpo cheered.
The chief smirked. "Heh... I must say, I don't think you're telling the truth. Who is it, then?"
Ranpo just smiled and pointed at the person. "The killer is you." He claimed as he pointed at Sugimoto.
"Huh...?" Sugimoto let out and froze in place.
"Heh..." The chief chuckled before letting out a loud laugh. "What's this? Is you power to make others laugh?! Officer Sugimoto is part of my team!"
Ranpo's smile turned splitting. "Yes... and office Sugimoto... killed her." He said with pure confidence and knowing.
"Don't be absurd!! Why would the killer just happen to be here?!"
"Killers always return to the crime scene. And did I not say it earlier? 'I'll know where the evidence is'... no?" Ranpo turned to Sugimoto and held out his hand. "Show me your handgun."
"A-Are you mad??" Sugimoto asked. "If I handed my service revolver over to a private citizen, I'd take a pay cut or worse!"
"Exactly..." The chief said in a stern voice. "This is a complete waste of time. You detectives are nothing more than loudmouths."
Ranpo chuckled. "If you examine the gun and find nothing, then, yes, I am just a loudmouth."
The chief huffed as he turned to Sugimoto. "I've had quite enough of your nonsense. Show it to him, Sugimoto."
"Huh? B-But..."
"After all that yammering, that oughta be enough to send him packing. Give him the gun. Time's wasting here." The chief ordered but Sugimoto stood still. He frowned as others narrowed their eyes. "Well...? Come on."
"Even in a town like this, your average citizen wouldn't know how to load a gun." Ranpo claimed, his smile seemed to be condescending on Sugimoto's hesitation. "That does double for a police revolver."
The chief's eyes widened. "Why the... silence Sugimoto?"
Y/n narrowed his eyes at the small officer. He silently moved away from his friends and towards the Sugimoto, in silence and unnoticed. His frown was clearly seen to show that he did not appreciate Sugimoto's being one bit.
"He's thinking..." Ranpo explained Sugimoto's silence to which he stiffened. "...about how he'll ever explain the three missing bullets inside."
"Sugimoto!! You couldn't possibly be the killer!!" The chief cried out. "Just give him the gun already!!"
Sugimoto reached for his gun, and he pulled it out. However, he clicked the safety lock off. Everyone's eyes widened at the sound of the gun clicking. He then raised his gun ready to shoot someone.
"HALT!!" The chief cried out.
BANG!
THUD!!
"How unfortunate for you, isn't it?" Y/n asked as he glared down at Sugimoto, who was under him. "Imagine pulling a gun on us, yet you didn't see if we were all accounted for. Truly disappointing on your side."
Y/n had apprehended, shoved, and de-armed Sugimoto all in one go. With the help of his ability, the bullet, which had accidently shot at him, bounced right off, only leaving a small hole in his clothing. Sugimoto grunted as his eyes were wide of horror.
Y/n's eyes could be seen through his hair. "Let's get you back to the station. Or, at least now, your former office. Isn't that right, Mr. Sugimoto?"
Sugimoto wanted to talk but he didn't say anything more. He glared at the ground below him as handcuffed were placed on his wrist. He laid there, defeated by some detectives that he barely even heard of.

The job was done, and now Atsushi, Dazai, Y/n, and Ranpo were heading back to the agency to report the success of arresting the killer of the case. And to also report to Kunikida that Dazai did indeed do a job, even if it was a small one.
The chief had apologized for his behavior towards Ranpo while also thanking him for his help. Ranpo could only shrug it off, not finding a huge deal of it. As Ranpo, Atsushi, and Dazai were in the interrogation room, Y/n had left to go get snacks for everyone.
Now, that the four were finally heading home, Y/n had given out the snacks to everyone. A cheesecake for Ranpo, pudding for Dazai, and two sugar cookies for Atsushi. Everyone was enjoying their sweets as they chatted with one another, Dazai with Atsushi, and Y/n with Ranpo. Dazai and Atsushi strayed behind the group as Dazai explained Ranpo's special case of not being a skill user.
"How'd you think of my performance, sweet cake~?" Ranpo cooed as he leaned onto Y/n.
Y/n chuckled. "It was a spectacular performance, my sugar. You truly are one of the greatest." He claimed. "However, I have to ask, why the nickname 'sweet cake'?"
Ranpo giggled to himself as he blushed at Y/n's praise, but then he had a wave of confidence and placed his hand near Y/n's ass. "Oh, simply because you have the best cake around~"
Y/n couldn't help but perk up when he felt Ranpo squeeze his ass ever so slightly. He then scoffed a little with a smirk as he looked down at Ranpo with a raised brow. He neatly tucked his hair away for a moment so that he could stare right at Ranpo's mischievous green ones.
"Is that so~?" Y/n cooed as he grabbed Ranpo's face and leaned towards it, dangerously close. "I enjoy being at the bottom. However, for you? I enjoy being on the top way more. Choose your next words wisely, my Ranpo, or you just might get hurt~"
Ranpo's eyes were wide open as a pink blush covered his whole face and even his ears. He quickly pulled away from Y/n with a huff and pulled his hat down to cover his face. He mumbled something about it being unfair that Y/n had the advantage.
Y/n only chuckled seeing Ranpo blushing. "I'm sorry, sugar." He laughed out. "I couldn't help myself."
Ranpo grumbled as he pouted and turned away. However, he couldn't help but smile when Y/n was laughing. His heart felt warm when seeing Y/n smile, and his heart would burn with love when Y/n would be affectionate with him. He was no dumbass, he knew that he was in love with Y/n, but he also knew a bunch of other people were also in love with him.
'You make too many people fall in love with you, Y/n, my love...' Ranpo thought in his head as he held a conversation with Y/n. '...but my love shall not be rivaled. I will play this little love game, and I will win. I will be the one to call you my husband. Count on it.'
