Y/n let out a tired sigh as he threw the note that was left in his house onto his desk, "Atsushi ran away for the sake of the agency's safety," He announced, "He left without so much as a goodbye and left this note as a thank you."
After hearing what Y/n said, most of the people in the office couldn't help but deadpan. Ranpo bursted out laughing, tilting his chair back as he held onto his stomach. Small tears pricked his eyes as he was laughing so hard at Atsushi's actions. Kunikida couldn't help but rub the bridge of his nose out of annoyance.
"No wonder that boy is so late now," Kunikida grumbled.
"Does he really see us as incompetent to defend ourselves?" Yosano questioned as she was twirling her hair in a bored manner.
"Maybe Atsushi just really cares for the agency!" Kenji pointed out.
"BWAHAHAA!!" Ranpo laughed even harder.
Y/n could only shake his head as he tipped Ranpo's hat over his face in order to make the 'super genius' stop laughing so loudly, "It's most likely because Atsushi doesn't know that the agency has a handful of skill users. To him, we're probably just regular humans with no abilities. It's only natural since it is the norm around here."
Kunikida groaned, rolling his eyes, "That's not a good excuse! He can't just leave because of an idiotic excuse, let alone leave a note behind and nothing else! That boy is out of his damned mind! Where the hell is he going to go??"
Ranpo's giggling was heard as he fixed his hat back on his head, "Calm down~ He'll be back in no time~" He stated in a carefree tone of voice.
Y/n sighed as he rubbed his head of an incoming headache, "I think so too."
Before Y/n could even grab the folders and paperwork that he was supposed to do, a small shock ran through his body making his eyes go wide. He turned to the entrance of the ADA, and everyone noticed his sudden action. Suddenly the situation on hand didn't seem like a laughing matter anymore.
"Well won't you look at that," Y/n whispered as he grabbed a pencil, "It's time to play a little sooner than expected."
Just as Y/n's words were said, everyone around him started to do their own piece of work. Whether it would be doing paperwork, working on the computers, or making phone calls, everyone went back to what they were doing. They pretended that they didn't know what was happening.
BAM!
And just like suspected, the door of the agency bursted open with a few men in black and three leaders behind them. Some people of the Port Mafia. A few people of the agency abruptly stood up as other looked at the newcomers with wide eyes.
"What on-?!" Kunikida called out.
"Ah, excuse me," The older man of the three leaders, Hirotsu, started, "It seems I've forgotten to make an appointment... or even knock, for that matter. I hope you will forgive me," He pointed at the crowd, signaling the black-haired person and the boy with rusty red hair to attack, " We won't take much of your time!"
Everyone's eyes widened when they noticed that the attack was coming straight for them. Gun shots echoed throughout the agency as the Port Mafia made their move on them.
───◇──◇─◇
Y/n let out a small huff as he kicked a mafia member to the ground. To make sure they stayed on the ground, he stepped on them to keep them in place. He dusted his hands as he smirked.
"That make twelve," Y/n muttered to himself, "Much less than last time, but, oh well."
"STOP!" Atsushi's voice cried out as he too barged into the agency, only to stop himself.
Atsushi watched with wide eyes as Kunikida flipped Hirotsu over by the arm, letting him land down with a hard thud. Atsushi stared for a moment before looking around. All the mafia members were either disarmed or knocked out, with the agency's members unharmed and casually chatting with one another.
Kenji was looking at a gun, to which Y/n had to take away as they were chatting about something to eat for lunch, and Yosano and Ranpo were chatting with each other about the latest novel that came out. Atsushi couldn't help but deadpan in shock that everyone was okay and acting like nothing happened.
"Oh," Kunikida let out as he had noticed Atsushi walk in, "You're back?"
"Ah, sweetie," Y/n called out, "Welcome back. Would you like something to eat soon? I don't think you've eaten anything since this morning, right?"
"U-Uh..." Atsushi stuttered slightly, he was in a daze and needed to process what was happening.
Kunikida waved dismissively, "That doesn't matter!" He pushed his glasses up his nose and looked at Atsushi, "Well, you can see how messy the place had become in your absence... Help clean it up!!"
"Heyyy~" Kenji droned out as he bounced in place, holding Y/n's sleeve, "What should I do with these folks?"
Y/n only smiled down at Kenji, "Just do the usual, Sunshine. Here, I'll even help you out."
Kenji's eyes shined as a small blush placed itself on his cheeks, "Yay~!"
'Wha...?" Atsushi wondered in his mind, 'Was this not a mafia assault group? Eh? Were they not on par with special OPS? ...Eh?'
Kenji let out a small whistle out of amazement as he threw another batch of mafia men out of the window. Y/n couldn't help but chuckle as he brough over a few more towards the window. Atsushi just watched with a blank look on his face.
"This is why I detest raids..." Kunikida mumbled to himself by Atsushi heard, still confused about what was going on, "The office will require extensive repairs, and the tenants downstairs will surely complain. I suppose it comes with the territory though..." He sighed out.
Atsushi sweatdropped at the actions of the ADA, 'Compared to... the mafia... The agency is... for more dangerous!'
"That should be last the last of them," Y/n huffed as he petted Kenji's hair, "Good job."
"Yes!" Kenji cheered with a closed eyed smile.
"Kunikida~" Ranpo whined, "I'll be needing to head off to my 'master detective' job soon~"
"Master detective?" Kunikida questioned before realizing, "Ah, assisting with that murder case?"
Ranpo chuckled, "Indeed! The police, you see... require the help of the master detective with possession of the world's greatest ability. They wish to consult old Mr. Ranpo here~ And they're crying for it~ I'll be leaving first thing in the morning tomorrow!"
"They've just requested for your assistance, Sugar," Y/n said as he helped Ranpo off of the table that he climbed on, "If anything, them 'crying' for you is an exaggeration."
"Boo..."
Kunikida only sighed, "Hey," He said as he turned to Atsushi, "Don't just stand there. We have a mountain of work to do. Go find Dazai for me too. He's probably off trying to skip on work again, no doubt."
Y/n let out a small hum as he put a finger on his cheek in thinking, "He was with me for breakfast this morning... He's probably at the baker where I left him." He sighed, "He said he'll be here in a few... hours."
"That Dazai...!"
Atsushi's gaze lingered to the ground, "Ha..." He let out as he smiled and let tears prick his eyes, "Ha, ha..."
"Hm?" Kunikida let out when he noticed Atsushi's expression, "Are you crying?"
Atsushi flinched, "I'm not."
Kunikida raised a brow, "Are you sure?"
"I'm not crying."
"Are you not?"
"ALL RIGHT, I AM!!"
Y/n couldn't help but chuckle at Atsushi's and Kunikida's little bickering. He walked up to Atsushi in a calm manner. Atsushi sniffed as he tried his best to wipe his tears away. He only stopped when he noticed that Y/n had came up to him.
"It's alright, sweetie," Y/ reassured as he gave Atsushi a handkerchief to wipe away his tears, "Here. You can always count on us to help and protect you, as long as you do the same, okay? Everyone here, we're more than just co-workers."
Atsushi eyes shined at Y/n's words. He carefully took Y/n's handkerchief and wiped away his tears and softly blew his nose. He couldn't help but smile at Y/n's reassuring words, they made him feel safe and comfortable to be around.
Atsushi blushed a little, "Yeah..." He whispered out, "Thank you, Y/n."
Y/n smiled, his closed eyed smile was shown through his hair, "Any time, sweetie."
───◇──◇─◇
Y/n hummed to himself as he was cooking dinner. He let out a small yawn as the smell of delicious smelling seasoning filled the kitchen. It had been a long day for him and his co-workers, having had to clean up the agency before having to do any actual work was a little exhausting. And Dazai came in late with a half-eaten dozen of donuts, was just the cherry on the cake.
"Sweetie!!" Y/n called out as he turned off the stove, "Dinner is ready!"
However, after a few moments there was no reply. Y/n raised a brow as he had already plated the food and was ready to eat. But due to his nature, Y/n wouldn't eat if not everyone was at the table.
Y/n walked up the stairs, leaving the food on the dining table, "Sweetie? Atsushi, it's time to eat! I can't have you go to work on an empty stomach! It just seems uncomfortable if you do..."
Y/n furrowed his brows as he walked to Atsushi's room. His heart seemed to pick up pace with anxiety. He raised his fist, about to knock on Atsushi's room door. However, Atsushi beat him to it by swinging the door open. Y/n's eyes slightly widened but softened to a smile.
"Ah, sorry for not answering!" Atsushi said with a small laugh, rubbing the back of his head, "I was changing to the new clothes you got me."
"No need to apologize," Y/n chuckled with a small head shake, "I was just calling you for dinner, no need to rush yourself."
Y/n was just about to turn around back downstairs but was stopped by a small tug to his shirt. With a raised brow, he turned around and saw that Atsushi was the one trying to gain his attention. Atsushi was looking down with a bashful expression, almost nervous with what he wanted to say.
"Atsushi?" Y/n questioned.
"I... Um..." Atsushi stuttered, "I am... so thankful for you, Y/n. Thank you so much for taking me in and giving me a place to stay at. I'm sorry... very sorry... for leaving so suddenly... I swear, it won't happen again...!"
Y/n was silent for a second. A small piece of hair lingered out of the way, and, when Atsushi looked up, noticed that Y/n's (e/c) eyes were widened with shock. It made him nervous. However, he physically calmed down when he noticed that Y/n's eyes softened, and he smiled.
Atsushi's eyes widened when he was pulled into a hug with Y/n. His eyes shined with small tears. He slowly made his way and hugged Y/n back. He, in his whole life, never felt such a warm and comforting hug before. It made him almost want to cry out in bliss.
"There's no need to be sorry," Y/n whispered, "You have a kind heart, Atsushi, and I will make sure that this will be a life that is worth living. Forget about you being a 'street rat', you are not Atsushi Nakajima, and I am overjoyed that you are here with me, with us, and with the agency."
At Y/n's loving words, Atsushi couldn't hold it in anymore. Tears flowed down his cheeks as he clutched onto Y/n's shirt like his life depended on it. He sniffed and his shoulder shook as he cried silently.
Y/n couldn't help but chuckle as he pulled away, "Alright, sweetie," He said softly, wiping Atsushi's tears away, "That's enough tears for one day. Come on, dinner will get cold."
Atsushi blushing lightly, let out a soft laugh as he nodded, "Yeah... I missed your cooking..."
