Character Arc: Sonnet Silvestri was the daughter of Lily Rose, a poet from District 12 who became famous for her rebellious poets against the Capitol that she wrote. Her poems were published anonymously, but she was eventually found out and put to death. Fueled by her mother's death, Sonnet continued her legacy and wrote poems under a pseudonym.
Sonnet and Peeta's childhood friend, Delly Cartwright, was reaped as the female tribute for the annual 74th Hunger Games and Sonnet selflessly volunteered.
Tragically, Peeta was chosen as the male tribute. Sonnet and Peeta fell in love during the Games, but tried to keep it a secret until they realized it would help them get sponsors. When they refused to kill each other in the end, the Capitol stopped the Games, but retaliated by targeting Sonnet.
Sonnet was the childhood friend of Peeta Mellark, making her valuable to President Snow. He hijacked her, leaving Peeta devasted and unable to function as a leader. Sonnet never fully recovered from the hijacking. She eventually grew so manic that she committed suicide.
