Personality and Character Analysis: Despite being roughened up at a young age, Maryana Novàk has a playful demeanor. Much of her playfulness is a defense mechanism and so is her flirtatious demeanor. She represses many emotions, but she doesn't let her tragic past stop her from being happy. She has a genuinely positive outlook on the world and is generally a positive and chirpy person.
  Very rarely does Maryana get upset, but when she does, it is usually when she has been pushed to her breaking point and she has a difficult time controlling herself when that happens. She also had to be manipulative growing up and she is still manipulative even when she doesn't have to be. She doesn't do this on purpose and she tries to catch herself when it happens, but sadly it is engrained into her personality. No one can tell if she is being genuine or not, not even herself.

Character Arc: Maryana Novàk is an outlaw archer from Sokovia. Her parents died when she was a child and she was forced to fend for herself in the war-torn country of Sokovia. Archery was her way of rebelling against the tyranny in Sokovia and the war brought to her country by America. It was also her way of keeping her father's memory alive because he taught her archery when she was very young. When she was nineteen years old, she was imprisoned during war, where she was abused.
  Maryana often seduced her captors before killing them with her bow and arrow, which is how she got the alias Cupid. She resented the Avengers, namely Tony Stark, because his weapons contributed to the death and destruction of her country. She participated in political protests in Sokovia. Years later, she considered volunteering for Baron Von Strucker before she realized how dangerous he was. She befriended two enhanced, Wanda and Pietro Maximoff, but was unable to sway them from taking part in Baron's experiments.
  When the Avengers arrived in Sokovia, Maryana attacked them, only to be thwarted by Clint Barton. She was unable to seduce and manipulate him, and became a prisoner for the Avengers. Rather than siding with Hydra, she decided that she would rather be with the Avengers, though it took awhile for them all to trust each other.
  Maryana befriended Thor fairly easily, mainly because their relationship was based on mutual interest but nothing too deep. However, it took her awhile to gain the trust of the other Avengers, namely Clint. She felt threatened by Clint, because he was a man who as as good as her at archery and was mostly unfazed by her attempts at seduction. They developed an antagonistic relationship due to her inability to be genuine with him and his inability to look past her seductress facade. However, she began to grow fond of him due to his straight-forward and genuine nature, and she started to trust him more than she trusted anyone else. Though he could often never tell if she was messing with him or not, he developed feelings for her that he did his best to ignore, but he cared about her and always looked out for her anyway.
  Maryana advocated for Wanda and Pietro when she was held hostage by the Avengers, but when she and the Avengers ambushed Wanda and Pietro in Sokovia, Wanda manipulated Maryana's mind, and did the same to the rest of the Avengers. Maryana was forced to re-live the trauma of her parents' deaths and the trauma of being taken advantage of by many men since her childhood years. She became even more provocative after this, in order to regain what she believed to be control, and Clint kept a close eye on her. He was the only one who made her feel like it was okay to be vulnerable.
  Maryana traveled to Sokovia with Wanda, Pietro, and the Avengers in order to save her country from Ultron. During the battle, Maryana was dubbed an Avenger and Sokovia was saved. Tragically, however, Pietro died during as a result. After the battle, Mayana developed an closer relationship with Wanda and became like a mother to her. She and Clint also developed an official romantic relationship.
