Laxita's POV
"Laxu!!!"
"Laxu! Where are you?"
I heard my mother's voice when I was nose deep in my new book which I found in her library. The book was about a princess who defeats the monsters with her magical powers and brings peace to the kingdom. I was always interested in magic but unfortunately, I was born in Kshatra Gadh where people were not blessed with magical powers unlike Somapura. Inherent magic was very rare in my kingdom.
The story was just getting interesting when I heard the anklet bells of my mother. She had entered my room and was visibly very delighted about something.
"Laxu"
"Ha maa," I replied.
("Yes mother")
"Laxu, I have some really great news," she exclaimed. "You have been accepted in the Gyanadeep Vishwavidyalaya!"
I was shocked and couldn't believe my ears when I heard this. She handed me the scroll of my acceptance. As soon as I saw my acceptance letter, I squealed, jumped and did a little happy dance. I hugged my mother and ran to my father to share this exciting news.
Gyanadeep Vishwavidyalaya is the best University in this entire sub continent and I was dying to get into this University. It has been my dream since childhood. I passed the written and oral admission tests which I gave 2 months back. There was a lot of stress because of the results but now I can finally relax and rejoice.
My father was a busy man and he often used to spend his time in the office which was attached to our home.
"Pitaji!" I called.
("Father")
"Pitaji"
I entered his office and he smiled looking at me. He dismissed all the officials and called me inside his cabin.
"Aaj meri nanhi pari daudi chali aayi hai mere paas, aisa kya khaas hai?"
("Today my little angel has come running to me, what's the special occasion?")
I smiled and exclaimed, "Pitaji, I have been admitted in Gyanadeep Vishvavidhyalaya!!!"
Hearing this, my father hugged me and said, "I knew that you could do it, congratulations my dear."
"Mohan ji", my father called our head servant. "Aaj khane mai kuch mitha banyiye, humari nanhi pari ne itni acchi khabar sunayi hai."
(Mohan ji, make some sweets for today's dinner, as my little angel has brought us such delightful news.")
Mohan ji also smiled and congratulated me.
Soon the news spread in the entire mansion and everyone congratulated me. My nanny, Reeta ji, was especially happy after hearing this news.
Today was literally the happiest day of my life. Another reason as to why I was so eager to join the University was Nakul. The love of my life. He is my fiancé and we have been engaged since birth.
Mai 8 varsh ki thi aur wo 10 varsh ka tha jab hum pehli baar mile. Tabh shayad prem ka arth bhi gyat nahi tha, kintu uske vyavahar aur sundar vichaaro ne mera mann moh liya tha. Unn dino se lekar aaj tak mai usse prem karti aayi hu.
(I was 8 years old and he was 10 years old when we met for the very first time. At that time, I didn't even know the meaning of love but I fell in love with his behaviour and beautiful thoughts. Since those days, I have been in love with him.)
Nakul was admitted into the university 2 years back along with crown prince Yashwardhan. My best friend Vanya was also studying at the same University. She was accepted last year and this year I was about to join her. All of us have been friends since childhood. We played together when we were children and now we were going to study at the same University.
I was too excited and there was so much to do. I had so much to pack and too little time. We had to leave within the next two weeks if I have to get there on time. It takes about 10-12 days to reach Shaktidvipa as we have to cross the Somapura kingdom.
The next few days passed by in a blur as everyone was busy packing. I also went to the market with my mother to buy some new sarees, I needed new clothes. Although, I was happy to join the university but there was still a twinge of sadness as well because I would be staying away from my parents. But it was necessary as I had to complete my education and training. Also, I wasn't the only one who was staying away from home.
The day of leaving was drawing near and I was trying to spend as much time as possible with my parents.
One fine evening, when we all were having dinner, a sudden question popped up in my head while I was daydreaming about Nakul.
"Maa, how did you meet Pitaji?"
I always knew that my parents married each other because they fell in love but I never asked them about the exact details. To me they were an ideal couple. Even after so many years of being married, they were still very much in love with each other. I wanted to know their story because I was already dreaming about my married life with Nakul. Although, I have to admit that it was way too early to think about that.
Hearing my question, she smiled.
"I met your father when he was running his business in Somapura."
"You met in Somapura?! The kingdom of magic?"
"Yes. I was visiting a temple when I saw your father. You can say that it was a love at first sight for both of us."
"Oh my God! That is so romantic."
She blushed and my father smiled. But there was still something which was not clear.
"If you both stayed in Somapura, why did you leave that kingdom? Wasn't it better than Kshatra Gadh?"
Their smiles faded and suddenly there was a tense atmosphere. For a few moments, there was an awkward silence and I didn't know why the atmosphere suddenly changed.
"The business was not doing well in Somapura, that's why we had to leave", my mother said.
Somehow I was still not convinced and it felt as if that my mother was not telling the truth. But I didn't probe it any further. I didn't know much about my mother's past. I knew that she was an orphan but that was the only thing I knew. She never told me about her past, where she was born and how she grew up when she had no parents. I almost knew nothing about her as she never told me any stories about her childhood, unlike my father, who always tells me about how mischievous he was. My father told me how he managed the family business when it was failing and how he made the business as successful as it is today. My chain of thoughts were interrupted when my father ruffled my hair.
"Saare sawaal aaj hi puch logi ya baad ke liye bhi kuch bachana hai?"
("Do you want to ask all the questions today itself or want to leave some for later also?")
I giggled and changed the direction of the conversation. I focused on my parents love story and asked them questions relentlessly which made my mother blush and father laugh. I didn't pay that much attention to the previous conversation as I believed that my parents will reveal the real reason to me later.
A few days later, the day finally arrived when I had to leave for the University. My parents accompanied me as it was my first time travelling this far. The journey was about 10-12 days long. We had to travel in horse pulled carriages as it was the fastest way to reach anywhere if you had a lot of luggage.
I noticed that my mother loved to travel. She was enjoying the entire journey way too much and my father was looking at her in awe. It was such a sweet sight. But the irony is, we never really travelled much. We hardly ever left our kingdom. It was kind of strange that if my mother loved to travel, why have we never gone on any trips? The more I thought about it, the less it made sense to me.
We finally reached our destination after days of travel and I was happy that the journey ended. Honestly, the journey was really tiring and I was ready to crash on the bed to take a nap. But my excitement had still not worn off as I was standing in front of the University of my dreams.
