When he first had the diagnose, he couldn't believe it. Sure, he'd always imagined how it'd be to live like this but now... what was he even supposed to do? He was so young. Did he have to die? Light, a 17 year old student who's about to graduate gets diagnosed with brain tumor, making his life a sudden mess. Shortly after, he is brought to a hospital where he starts therapy. Though it's not always easy for him, Light clings to his life and doesn't want to let the cancer defeat him. Especially the younger children look up to him and say that if he can do it, they can do it too. One day he meets a slim, strange looking man in the hospitals' park, but instead of going away they talk for a while and play chess together. That man reveals himself as "Ryuzaki. However most people will call me by my full name, which would be Hideki Ryuga. Only close people are allowed to call me Ryuzaki" Ryuzaki, who's there because if severe osteoporosis and type 1 diabetes becomes very good friend with Light and they are nearly inseparable. A young girl with once two blond ponytails, now a pink beanie once gave Light a picture she drew of them- "that's you. And that's your cool panda-frog-friend. And that's a cat cuz cats are cute". Light noticed that his 'cute panda-frog-friend' never really wore shoes, the explanation being that as long as he could still walk he'd like to feel the ground. Later, Light's one of the very few persons who are allowed to drive him in his wheelchair around. Life seems to be going well for the two, until Light has a heavy relapse and feels more devastier than ever. He doesn't want to try anymore, the beanie on his head feeling more like a sign of loss than a memory of his fight, knowing that despite all his effort, the chances of surviving and having a normal life again are low. He feels lost and helpless. Not long after Ryuzaki and him get into a heavy argument because his friend keeps on talking about how he shouldn't give up and keep fighting. "It's what I did! I fought and fought and fought, but I'm tired! I don't want anymore! I can't! I thought I was alright again but my body is too tired! For god's sake can't you understand, can't you see it?! Do you really think I chose to be here?! You think I chose to be dying?!" "Light-kun calm down, shouting like this isn't good for your heart" "Shut up with this crap, don't start talking like them! Don't treat me like I'm a stupid child. A child wouldn't realize what's happening, because people would romanticize it all. But I know what's happening, better than anyone else! And don't come to me talking about my heart because as far as I know that is the only thing functioning in his body right now, it's my brain that's sick not my hea-" The rapidly beeping of the ECG suddenly turned into a high pitched and constant sound as Light's head fell back onto the pillow, a look of sorrow, pain and regret on his face as his eyes slowly closed and a tear rolled down his face, the calls to stay with him and not being allowed to die fading out.
