Chapter 9
"Bruce?" Nat asked in confusion, anger, and fear. "What're you doing here?" Nat stood still, not knowing what to do.
"You didn't call me Nat." He said as if it was the most obvious answer.
"Bruce i told you, it was over two weeks ago." Nat said annoyed.
"Nat, i know what you said but you know that's not possible with us." He said stepping towards her.
"It is and I've seen what it's like without you and I'm happy. Truly happy, so leave.me.alone." Sternness encompassed in her voice which took Bruce by surprise. She moved to close the door but he slammed his hand against it. His eyes going dark. Hers widening in fear, she had almost forgotten how scary he could be.
"I'm not leaving. We're gonna stay here and make up for this little mixup." His voice was strained and his face was redder than normal.
"Bruce. You can't make me." Her fierceness dimming slightly at his tone.
"Well i think you will. You know, why?" He smirked smugly.
"Why is that?" Rolling her eyes. She couldn't believe he still had the confidence to think she'd ever want him back.
"Because I have about 5 different videos of you being the best little whore in all of New York." He wore a smug grin as he held up his phone and wiggled it.
Nat looked at him in horror. "What?" Her eyes following him as he walked pass her into the apartment.
"Oh right. I forgot to tell you." He leaned in sending chills down her spine. "I recorded some of our fuck sessions, just a few things to keep me going on those nights you wanted to act like a little bitch and i couldn't touch you."
Nat was stunned. She shook her head in disbelief. "No, no, no, no You wouldn't. You wouldn't do that to me." Her voice cracking as her eyes welled with tears. "You know what that could do to me, to my foundation."
"Of course, I know." Bruce chuckled. "That's also how i know you won't have any problem being my girl again." He plopped down on the couch and put his arm on the back of it. "Come. Sit with me baby."
Nat stood still. Her mind racing a thousand miles a minute. Her chest was tight and she used the back of her hand to wipe the tears racing down her cheeks. In a matter of weeks, she felt anger, sadness, freedom, happiness, and now her old friend, fear. How could she be so stupid to believe she could actually get away from him that easy? She sighed making her way over to the couch. Her body sinking in next to his. Bruce watched her follow his command.
"Good girl." He gripped her thigh. "I missed you Nat. Gave me a little scare." He gently kissed her neck and sucked softly. Nat stared up at the ceiling hoping to make her mind go blank, to ignore the panging in her heart as Bruce touched her body.
"We've got a lot of catching up to do baby. Relax."
.................
It had been four days now since Bruce came back, Nat woke up to get ready for work. Bruce was up not too long after.
"I'll be a little late tonight, so I'll take some lasagna when i get in. Remember not to use that seasoning you like to put in everything. I want my dinner to be perfect." Bruce poured his coffee while Nat grabbed her keys to leave.
"Ok" she replied stoically. She was no longer the ball of sunshine she had been the last two weeks. He took the rest of her dignity the night he came back and all she wanted to do now was keep her head down and stay out of the way. Nat opened the door stepping out to the hallway when Bruce grabbed her arm.
She quickly turned around not knowing what she did this time. He could tell she was scared and he took pride in that. "Can't leave without my goodbye kiss." Nat quickly gave him a peck on the lips but he pulled her closer. Deepening the kiss, moaning into her mouth. His hand grabbing her ass roughly before pulling away. Nat did her best to hide the disgust she felt. "Bye. Don't forget dinner tonight." He said before shutting the door after her.
"Ok" Nat turned on her heels and was met with Steve's blue eyes staring at her. She couldn't bare to face him now, so she didn't. Nat walked past him ignoring his gaped mouth and hurried down the stairs. She knew he'd be confused and the last thing she wanted to face was his disappointment. She kept her pace racing out the building to go to work.
She stopped by her favorite coffee place because she needed her usual pick me up.
"Morning Nat."
"Hey Clint." Her tone damper than normal.
"Where's your sidekick today?" He asked referring to Steve. For the past few weeks, even before the make-up break-up situation, her and Steve were inseparable every morning.
"Um he..he didn't have time."
"Alright. How's everything else going though?" He asked sliding her coffee over the counter, like clockwork.
"Good. Just focusing on work and -"
"Steve" Clint interrupted.
"No, i was gonna say myself but-"
"No Steve just walked in. I thought you said he didn't have time." Clint spoke looking past her at the tall blonde walking towards them.
"I..uh..i didn't. I'm sorry i gotta go." Nat grabbed her coffee and quickly walked by Steve not sparing him a glance. His eyes longing for him to look at her. She had ghosted him for days. She wasn't answering his calls or texts but he guessed he knew why now. He didn't know what the hell happened. Things were going great. She seemed like she was finally comfortable and happy, now she was back with Bruce? He sighed looking towards Clint.
"Hey Clint." His tone just as sad as Nat's had been. They both were feeling the effects of the new situation.
"Hey Steve. What was that all about?" Clint asked as he noticed Steve and Natasha's cold interaction.
"I don't know. Probably because of her and Bruce"
"Bruce? Why would it be because of him? She told me she finally ended it with him"
"Well apparently she got back with him because they were locking lips this morning," Clint could see Steve's frustration.
"What the hell did she do that for?"
"I don't know. She seemed to be doing ok but i guess she just...just...i don't know. I can't even pretend to know."
"I'll talk to her. See what's going on in her mind."
"Please do. She's been ignoring me for days and won't even look at me."
"Look don't worry. I'll call her alright. Just focus on the showing tomorrow. Let me deal with Nat." Clint said handing Steve his coffee.
"Thanks man."
Steve left the building and went to work. He pushed Nat out of his mind and focused on his work. She made her choice and he couldn't do anything about it, He just hoped, she'd figure this out before it's too late.
Nat made it to work and was greeted with the familiar sight of Maria. She had been a real lifesaver the last few days. She knew that Bruce had weaseled his way back in Natasha life, though she didn't know all the details.
"Morning Nat."
"Morning 'Ria. How's it going?"
"Nothing. You had a message left over from yesterday."
"From who?" Nat asked taking off her scarf throwing it on the back of the computer chair.
"Steve like always. Wants you to give him a call." Maria looked at her with sad eyes, knowing her friend never would. She had just recently learned how close the two had gotten when Steve came one day and brought Nat a box of her favorite chocolate truffles to work.
"It's fine. I saw him this morning." Nat said nonchalantly.
"Oh my god, Nat that's great. You finally talked to him."
"Well we didn't exactly talk. More so me walking past him and avoiding him.
"Are you serious?"
"Yes! You don't know how disappointed he looked after seeing me and Bruce together, he looked like i had just killed his puppy,"
"Well you did. It didn't take a rock scientist to see how close you two are and then no contact Nat. You completely dissed him."
"But i did it to protect him and me. You know Bruce wouldn't allow me to talk to him and if i did, he'd lose his shit."
"So does that mean you're not going to go to his gallery opening tomorrow?"
"I..I want to but, I know that Bruce wouldn't go for it if he knew it was Steve's show."
"Then don't tell him. It's not like he's gonna find out if you don't. You need to be there Nat. Talk to him."
"I'll think about it." And she did just that. She stayed until 6 pm before calling it a quits and going home. She was a woman of word and knew that going to the opening would be the only right thing to do, seeing as how they are friends or at least they were. She continued to mull over her decision while she cooked dinner for Bruce, he would be coming home any minute, but minutes turned into two hours and he had just got in. The food, no longer fresh but delicious nonetheless, however that didn't appease him, he liked hot and ready and the food certainly was not, so he reminded Nat just how much he hadn't changed.
The rest of the day went by fairly slow for Steve, he had a few cases that he was working on. He focused on his work and only lifted his head when Wanda walked in telling him she'd be leaving for the day. Steve looked at the clock and it read 7 p.m. He hadn't stayed this late in a couple weeks. He'd been spending most of his nights with Nat, whether it was watching the game or just hanging out. She had infiltrated his life and just as easily, walked out of it.
By 11pm, he was packing his work and leaving the office. He made it home fairly quick due to the lack of traffic. It was silent when he arrived home. There were no arguments coming from next door so maybe Bruce has made a change and saw the error of his ways, maybe he wasn't the same, but little did he know Nat was sleeping on her couch with a bruised lip and sore back. Men like him, never change.
