Chapter 8
It had been about two weeks since Nat cooked dinner for Steve and things were going great. Today, she was on her way to the dance classes she taught. She had her Nike gym bag thrown across her shoulder as she locked the door to her apartment. Moments later, Steve exited his with music in his ear. He gave Nat a questionable look before pulling an earbud out.
"Where 're you headed?" He asked with his head nodding towards the bag.
"Dance class."
"Oh right. The infamous dance class that I've yet to go to."
"Well you're always welcome to join." Nat teased because she knew he wouldn't.
"Then, I guess I'm in luck."
Nat raised her eyebrows in shock. "Is Steve Rogers actually going to be attending class today?"
"Yea I am. I do recall asking for a private lesson."
She tapped her finger against her cheek. "Mmmm I think that does ring a bell."
"Then shall we go."
"We shall."
They got on the train and held conversation about various things including the Dodgers game they had watched together the night before.
"You think we'll win this season? Hernandez hasn't been his usual self." Steve asked as the train rocked them back and forth.
"Well once he gets his head out of his ass, we will. He's bringing the whole team down." Nat clearly was still bothered by his performance last night.
Steve was in awe at her brazen attitude. It was extremely attractive, hot even. He stared as Nat went on, she was definitely a woman after his heart.
"What?" She asked taking him out of his thoughts.
"Oh nothing. I just love that you're so passionate about the game. Maybe one day we can go."
"Yea, there's a game in a couple weeks. How about then?" She asked standing up to exit the train as the steel doors slid open.
"Sounds like a plan champ." He grinned.
"Champ? Really?" She laughed incredulously.
"Yea, why not?" He looked down at her putting his arm around her shoulder. Nat wrapped hers around his lower back as they walked in sync.
Nat shook her head with a chuckle "You're a complete cornball. Who knew lawyers could be so goofy?"
"We are nothing like how they show us on TV." He stated matter of factly.
"So I've learned." Nat said as they walked along the crowded street. Soon they were entering the door to the dance studio.
"So Stevie, how much do you actually know?" She asked as they entered the huge brick room. The exposed ceiling giving an industrial look to the area. Steve took in the room. The bright, ceiling high windows provided an adequate amount of natural light to dance without turning on the artificial ones.
"I know enough to tell you to watch your feet."
"Well how about we take things slow and learn how to do a simple waltz. It has all the basic elements of a dance so if you never learn anything else, you'll at least know to do these." She said breaking away to put her stuff down.
"Alright well I'm game. You'll learn that I'm a very eager student."
"Good. Those are my favorite kind." Nat teased as she walked over the stereo turning on some classical music. She slipped off her thin jacket exposing the unitard she wore. Her smooth creamy back exposed by the low cut. Her leggings hugged her lower half and Steve did his best not to stare. Turning around, she sauntered over to Steve who now suddenly felt tense. His shoulders were stiff and his arms stuck to his side as if she had him in a trance.
"Steve." Her voice light and enticing. "I need you to relax." Her hands snaked up to his shoulders gently squeezing them to loosen him up.
"I'm just not good at this."
"It's alright. I don't expect you to be. It's just a dance. Trust me." She leaned closer to him looking him in the eyes. "Focus on me." Her left hand moving down to guide his right hand to her waist. The soft music played in the background. Nat interlaced their fingers together and raised them, moving her left hand back to his shoulder. They were now in the perfect Waltz stance. Their eye contact becoming more intense as he gripped her waist a little tighter.
Nat was the first to break it, looking down at their feet. "You're going to move your left foot towards me and I'll move my right back. Ok?"
"Mhmm" he said looking down and moving his feet.
"Good. Now with your right foot, step right and bring your left foot over." Steve followed the instructions and felt more confident. It was simple and effortless but he couldn't tell if it was because of him or the gorgeous redhead in front of him. As if reading his thoughts, Nat blushed and instructed him through the next moves. She loved the feel of his hands in hers. They moved with grace and soon they had the four steps down.
"You think you can handle it all together?"
"Yea, but can we still take it slow?"
"Of course. From the top."
They danced and glided across the floor. They moved methodically each anticipating the next steps of the other. They got lost in each other's eyes, smiling softly as they spun across the hardwood floors. Each step brought them closer enticing both of them for more. However, the music came to an end. Their chests pressed against one another heaving up and down. The sounds of their breathing filled the air.
"You know...you're not as bad as you claimed to be." Nat spoke up, her voice sounding sultry and raspy.
"Well i guess it's because I have a great partner." His voice deepening as he looked down at her.
Nat was gong to respond but her words were interrupted by the soft sounds of feet pattering across the ground. They both looked over to find two of Natasha's students standing in the doorway. Steve quickly stepped back feeling suddenly embarrassed, Natasha's disappointment masked as she smiled at the two young kids.
"Hi Emily, Hi Emma." The twins smiled at Nat before running over to her and wrapping their arms around her legs.
"Hi Miss Natasha."
"You girls ready for today?" She asked rubbing their heads.
"Yes." They answered in unison, letting go of her.
"Ok, go ahead and start warming up. We'll start soon." The two adults watched the girls scurry off and get ready for class.
"You're amazing with them." Steve said. He loved seeing her with kids. It's hard to believe she had the problems that she did.
"Thank you. I really love what i do."
"I can tell. It's what makes you so good."
Natasha's cheeks warmed as she listened to the compliment. "Are you staying?" She asked hoping to spend a little more time in his presence,
"No, I'm going to let you enjoy your class. Thank you though. I had a great time might find it useful soon." He said hugging her to leave.
"Ok, I'll see you later then."
"Yes you will." With that Steve walked out the door and back home. He sported the biggest grin imaginable. He would definitely be back for more.
Nat focused on her class teaching the young children ballet. Each month they learned new dances and held a showcase. She only came every other Saturday but there were multiple teachers so the students could remain consistent and in routine.
It was nearing 6 pm by the time she finished. She walked her last student out and she wanted nothing more than to go home. She was exhausted and sweaty. Her shower was calling her name and so was the food in her fridge. Grabbing her gym bag, she left the building and onto the streets of New York.
.....................
It was 7 when she got home. She had cleaned up and was currently texting Steve as she ate the sofritas bowl she still had from Chipotle.
Stevie ❤️: I'm serious Nat. I think my feet are going to be sore for a few days.
Nat: You're being dramatic. We didn't even dance that long.
Stevie❤️: Coming from the woman who has been dancing since she was little.
Nat: Fine! Next time I'll take things slow.
Stevie❤️: Good, I enjoy taking these slow.
Nat bit her lip as she felt herself become giddy with excitement. He surely couldn't have meant it any other way but she couldn't stop the idea of being with him, in ANY way, from entering her mind. As she was typing, she heard a knock at the door. Thinking it might've been Steve she opened it.
"Bruce?"
