Chapter 11: The Song of Joy

Author's Note: Hi guys, so far I've been able to keep these chapters consistent despite school (let's go!). In this chapter, this is where the love drama starts. I'm gonna let you guess whether it's a Lou x oc or a Lou x Mandy (I am confused with shipping Lou x Nolan, Mandy x Moxy, etc but I respect it). Alright, enjoy and say in the comments about what you think of the shipping.

Joy sighed sadly as she was confined to the shelf of her very creator. There was nothing she wouldn't trade to just have someone with her. She was a prototype. That was the ugly word that stuck with her every day. Finally, she had enough with the torment of her creator.

"Whoever made me is clearly unappreciative of me. I should leave this place," Joy whispered to herself.

And so she looked at the open window and escaped. For the first time she was free. It didn't last long though because everything went black.

—------------------------------------------------------------

Lou and Ox were enjoying the peace of sleeping with Alohi. Both dolls loved the embrace of the 13 year old girl. Suddenly, Delaney bust opened the door and blared the horn. Alohi and the dolls groaned as they turned away from Delaney. Delaney, obviously not giving up, opened the curtains but Alohi hid underneath her comforter.

"Baby sis, wake up! It's a beautiful day and I want to take you to my work again," Delaney said loud enough while snapping her fingers near Alohi.

"Leave me alone, Dela. My beauty sleep matters," Alohi mumbled, annoyed at her big sister.

Delaney thought for a moment and then quickly took out the covers. Alohi yelped at the sudden cool air that took the cozy warmth of her bed away.

"You're welcome, I'm making your favorite French Toast casserole," Delaney said in annoyance.

"Fine, Dela Devil."

Delaney tossed a stuffed Jigglypuff at her in annoyance. Alohi woke up and got ready as she ate her French Toast casserole. Her sister always made it perfectly with the right amount of spice. Her Mom's was always too sweet.

"Why did you have to wreck my beauty sleep to bring me to your stupid job?!"

"Because in that "stupid job" Amity requested for you to come."

Alohi was now quickly eating her casserole and said, "C'mon, we don't want to be late!"

Delaney playfully rolled her eyes, applied a beautiful shade of pink lipstick, and grabbed her keys. They drove while listening to Christina Perri's songs. When they got there, her boss greeted her at the entrance. For the first time, Alohi was seeing her sister's boss.

He had her fair skin but his hair was midnight black. His eyes were dark brown and his smile was kind. He wore a plain suit and had a yellow tie.

"Hello Delaney, looking good like usual," he said in a deep yet sweet tone.

"Oh Ein, always with the compliments," Delaney said, blushing.

Alohi grinned mischievously and said teasingly, "Are you guys dating? Did you plan out your marriage?"

"No!" they both shouted, blushing really hard.

"Anyways, I guess you already met my daughter Amity," he said, coughing it out in embarrassment.

"Oh yeah, I did. We talk in school," Alohi said a bit too enthusiastically.

"My child, show her to your room and chat there. I'll put this child's sister to work."

Amity dragged her and she whispered, "The reason I asked you to come here is to sneak into my Dad's office. Remember The Keeper of Hearts incident?"

"Yeah, I was on that cruise," Alohi replied.

"Right so the FBI and police sentenced Dexter into prison for eternity for rounding up all the minors."

"That's good because I never want to see that man ever!" Lou spat bitterly.

Alohi knew that Lou was going through recovery from the trauma that Dexter had put him through. Amity noticed it too and said, "Maybe there's a way to find out about the secrets of this building, and more things to stop the person from getting what he wants."

Alohi told Amity that her Dad was behind it, but she waved it off by saying that her Dad was busy but not evil. She refused to believe that her Dad was evil. Alohi just went with it, knowing that she would be proven wrong at some point.

And so they snuck into the office and started looking through his desks and every place they thought he would keep important info. Lou and Ox got bored so they started looking around on the shelves. Lou then heard someone crying. He walked in the direction of the sound until he found the source of the crying.

The girl looked up. She was in fact a doll. Her hair was golden blonde that shone in the sun, her eyes were as blue as the ocean, and she had a small birthmark on her neck. The girl wore a beautiful black dress with matching black flats. This girl looked a lot like Lou. Even more than Eloy.

"Who are you? A-are you here to punish me because M-mad Einstein told you too?" the girl stuttered, looking really scared.

"No, we won't. I was just wondering about who was crying. We mean no harm," Lou said gently, understanding that she was more traumatized than him.

The girl thought for a moment before saying, "I'm a failure. I was supposed to serve a purpose, but he didn't like my personality. So I'm here on this shelf and if I run then he punishes me. I just tried today but he found me anyway."

Lou, feeling sympathy for the girl, asked, "What's your name?"

"My name is Joy. My creator's daughter wanted to name me that instead of Louise."

"I'm Louis but call me Lou. This is my friend, Ox."

"Since when did Mad Einstein accept dolls like him? No offense or anything but he never liked imperfection."

"He has to or else the money goes away."

Joy chuckled bitterly and said, "Yeah, that sounds like him. Always caring about the money over his own dolls."

Lou then said, "Let's bust you out of here."

"It's too dangerous! We'll get caught!"

"Don't be afraid. If you are, look arrogant. They can't see anything through fake arrogance."

Joy then remembered her twin brother saying that. He looked a lot like Lou and herself. She got separated from her own twin because of her personality. Her brother was yet to be known; however, Joy realized that Lou was her twin brother. She was the only person who remembered one particular memory.

—------------------------------------------------------------

Joy was laughing with Kitty, Lydia, and Tuesday. She was the kind leader of Perfection. Everyone loved and respected her for her kind heart. The only wish she had was to have a younger brother. Then the scanner read out, "You are Louis. You are a performer/model. You are also the twin brother of Joy."

That stopped all conversations. Everyone looked at the golden blonde boy, who was very confused. He looked just as much as Joy as anyone else. Louis was in fact the guy that made the girls swoon at the sight of him.

"Who's Joy?" Louis asked.

"I am," Joy replied, shocked and happy at the same time.

"Well, I suppose we are twins."

"Yup, I'll show you around."

And so that started the love between Joy and Lou. They enjoyed everything together. Both dolls taught side by side and never cared if anyone left them. They had each other and that was all that mattered. Days passed until one day Joy had to come to the Big World. She went through the portal and met up with the creator.

He was silent before saying, "So you have fun with Louis?"

Joy knew there was no point in lying and she was honest. "Yes but why does it matter? We teach them well."

"You have to teach them to be perfect. Not to love themselves."

"That's impossible because there is no such thing as perfect."

"Ah, I see now. You aren't teaching them that because you don't understand that perfection is the only way that I'll get money. Perhaps Lou will do it better than you."

"You can't do that! He's my brother! Also everyone will notice that I'm gone."

"I'll seal off that memory for everyone in Perfection including Louis. You are going to be staying in this office and out of sight."

Joy was then taken to the shelves. She begged and pleaded not to do it to her brother, but it was useless because he went off ignoring her. That was the last time she saw her brother.

—------------------------------------------------------------

Joy cried but this time it was happy tears. She was seeing her brother after so long.

"Louie, is that you?" she said, calling him by the nickname she gave him.

Lou looked at her confused and said, "No, my name is Lou."

Joy then remembered the memory was sealed off so she said, "Lou, you may not remember me but I'm your twin sister, Joy."

"I don't remember a girl named Joy."

"I'll explain when we get to a place where we can talk."

And so they found Alohi and Amity and showed Joy to the teens. They then went off to Amity's room. Lou and Ox explained how they found her, and the girls expressed their sympathy for her. Alana then came in and said, "What's all the commotion about?"

"This girl named Joy claims to be my twin sister," Lou explained with a warm look in his eyes.

Alana and Lou had spent more time together. They sang, danced, and did everything friends would do. Alana would report to her boss everything about Lou since the blonde was now starting to trust her as a best friend.

She was also developing feelings for Lou. She got nervous whenever she saw his beautiful face, her heart beat so much she thought her chest would explode, if someone talked about him or she was around him, she'd be smiling the whole day. Alana wanted to be his girlfriend. Her will was overpowering, so she would stop at nothing to be his.

"It all started on the day that you were made. Everyone was just as surprised as I was. We started talking and then bonded. We taught side by side, had ice cream, played together, everything a brother and sister would do. Until our creator found out and separated us. He even sealed everyone's memories of me away, especially from you. All he wants is money and that's all he cares about."

Lou took some time to consider this. He then remembered how there was a girl like Joy. It was faint and unrecognizable. He somehow knew that Joy wasn't lying. She was being truthful.

"I don't remember you at all; however, I trust you so you can live with Alohi's older sister maybe."

"How would Mad Einstein even agree?" Joy said skeptically.

"Make Delaney love you. She loves dolls like you. Straight shoulder length blonde hair, ocean blue eyes, everything she'll love about you," Alohi said excitedly, understanding what Lou meant.

Just then a girl with dark skin and dark curly hair in pigtails came in.

"Hi Amity, today I brought Mandy to show you," the girl said enthusiastically.

It was the same Mandy that Lou knew. The same bun haired girl with glasses.

"That's great, Faye. You can keep her here and we can talk."

And so all the girls left the dolls alone in the room. Lou started talking to Mandy, and she was thankful to spend time with Lou. Alana got jealous. She knew that Mandy had a crush on Lou, so she was going to crush out her feelings for him. Alana then interrupted, "Lou, you forgot to mention that I'm your new best friend."

Lou blinked and then said, "Oh yeah, Alana is my best friend now. She's been really nice and sweet. At first she's annoying but then you realize that she is a really nice person."

Mandy was shocked. Never in her wildest dreams would she have thought that Lou would love a person like her. Alana hugged him and he hugged back. They seemed to enjoy each other. She was heartbroken. Why had she been so naive? Of course Lou wouldn't like a doll like her. Her imperfections were just that unattractive.

"Louie Bear, can you get me some water? I'm really thirsty," Alana whined while calling him by his new nickname.

"Why is there always some new nickname for me?" Lou huffed as he went off to find a glass big enough for dolls.

Since Ox was taking a nap, Alana then said with menace, "I know you love Lou."

"So what?! It started off as a crush but then I started loving him," Mandy said while blushing.

"Did you actually think that an imperfection like you would win his heart?" Alana said, laughing with amusement, "You're ugly and Lou deserves me so back off!"

Joy witnessed this secretly. Mandy was breathing heavily with tears in her eyes as Alana grinned with triumph. She never liked seeing people get bullied. When she was the leader, no one bullied anyone or else she'd severely punish them.

"Soon Lou will be my boyfriend and soon after that I'll be hearing wedding bells," Alana said, giggling at the thought of it.

Mandy then jumped off and hid under Amity's bed. She cried silently as her heart broke. Why wasn't she surprised? Lou would never love her. Alana had everything she never had. That was the biggest mistake of her life: falling for a perfectionist that almost tried to kill her.

"I don't know what Louis was like after the memory seal, but the Louis I knew loved the people that were true to themselves. Trust me, if he recognizes you as yourself and loves you for that, then he sees the real you. If not then there are other great guys out there," Joy said, pulling Mandy into a hug.

Mandy embraced the hug and loved the warmth from it. "Thanks but I'm not good enough as myself for Lou. I have to have what Alana has."

Joy sighed and said, "Alright, you can try but if it doesn't work out then I'm a shoulder to cry on."

Mandy thanked Joy and they both hopped back onto the bed. Lou came back with the water that Alana accepted. Most of the time Lou talked to Alana, and when Mandy tried to speak she was shunned by some remark from Alana. Joy grew to dislike Alana. She didn't like how she treated other people, and didn't want her younger twin to get intertwined in a relationship with her.

—---------------------Where the girls are---------------------

After a while of passing gossip, Faye said, "You know, I heard that there is a spy sent from Many Dolls to see what's going on."

"Nah, I bet it's just rumors. My Dad hates spies," Amity said, shaking her head.

"Who knows? Lately I've felt like I'm being followed," Alohi said, shrugging.

"Let's just call it a day and just go home. The employees are done just about now."

The girls agreed and walked back. While walking back, Faye asked, "Say, can one of you guys take care of Mandy? I'm going on vacation and I don't trust my Mom with Mandy. Last time she tried to wash off a doll but it ended up as a pile of stuffing."

"I could. Pretty sure that my Mom doesn't mind," Alohi replied. And so the girls kept on walking in silence.

—---------------------Where the dolls are---------------------

Alana asked Lou to come somewhere private. Her feelings were too hard to ignore. When they were alone, Alana said, "You know, when I first saw you, I had a crush on you. So then as I got to know you, my feelings became hard to ignore. Now I know that it's because I love you. I know guys ask this usually, but will you make me the happiest doll and be my boyfriend."

Lou's heart stopped. He had been feeling something with Alana, so he might've been falling in love with his friend. That was when he said, "You know, I felt something inside of me too. I think it's because of you. So yes, I'll be your boyfriend."

(Music starts and now Lou and Alana are looking at each other with love. Alana starts off the song.)

Bold= Alana     Italics= Lou     Bold + Italics= Both

I don't need you to sell me on reasons to want you
I don't need you to search for the proof that I should
You don't have to convince me
You don't have to be scared you're not enough
'Cause what we've got going is good

I don't need more reminders of all that's been broken
I don't need you to fix what I'd rather forget
Clear the slate and start over
Try to quiet the noises in your head
We can't compete with all that

So what if it's us?
What if it's us
And only us
And what came before won't count anymore or matter?
Can we try that?
What if it's you
And what if it's me
And what if that's all that we need it to be
And the rest of the world falls away?
What do you say?

I never thought there'd be someone like you who would want me

Well...

So I give you ten thousand reasons to not let me go
But if you really see me
If you like me for me and nothing else
Well, that's all that I've wanted for longer that you could possibly know

So it can be us
It can be us
And only us
And what came before won't count anymore or matter
We can try that

It's not so impossibleNobody else but the two of us here

'Cause you're saying it's possibleWe can just watch the whole world disappear

'Til you're the only one
I still know how to see

It's just you and meIt'll be us
It'll be us
And only us
And what came before won't count anymoreWe can try that

You and me
That's all that we need it to be
And the rest of the world falls away
And the rest of the world falls away
The world falls away
The world falls away
And it's only us

And then they moved closer until their lips met and they were now kissing. Mandy watched the whole scene in ultimate sadness. Lou was now Alana's boyfriend. She fell on her knees, the floor was just as cold as her mood was. When she touched her cheek, she felt something damp. She'd been crying without knowing it.

Alana saw her and when hugging Lou she stuck out her tongue and mouthed the word "ugly" at her. Mandy went off with a broken heart, and by that time she saw a red head girl with Alohi. It looked like Alohi had convinced her big sister to keep Joy.

Lou and Alana came back when Delaney remembered that she forgot something. As Delaney went to get her important item, Alohi asked, "The love boat has sailed for Alana and Lou?!"

"Yup, I am his girlfriend," Alana replied with an innocent grin.

Mandy was silent but no one paid much attention to it. She hid her glasses and swore to be perfect for Lou. People in Perfection didn't care too much about her glasses, but it was clear that she needed to impress Lou. If being perfect for him meant no glasses whatsoever, then it was something that she would commit to.

As she was carried by Alohi, Mandy wondered whether Alana was hiding something. Something big about herself and her personality.
