Blast from the past

Fallen petals of Daffodils were sprinkled across the surface of a wooden table. The corners of the petals curled into themselves, and the once bright yellow colour had turned into a muddy brown. The flower was no longer standing proudly in the glass vase, but rather hanging limply over the edge of the glass as it shed another petal, allowing it join the already fallen ones.

Blood soaked sneakers made their way over to the wooden table, leaving behind a trail of blood. A dirty hand curled around the edge of a chair and lifted it up before turning it around and carrying it across the room. The sneakers stepped onto shards of broken glass, creating a sound of crunching, that mixed together with the eerie silence hanging in the air.

"Tell me, Jungkook." A quiet whisper tangled with the silence as the wooden chair was set down in front of an identical chair. Green eyes flickered up to the tied up boy resting in the wooden chair before the corners of chapped lips lifted into a small smile, "Have you ever seen a Disney movie? Or perhaps a Marvel one?"

Coffee coloured eyes hid behind a hostile glare and rose coloured lips stayed pressed together. Silence fell over the room yet again as Jungkook sat tensely and didn't respond to Katelyn's question. Outside Jungkook may look calm and collected, but inside he was scared and confused. He didn't feel safe being tied to a chair in front of potential danger, nor did he feel safe staring into the familiar eyes of Katelyn.

A soft sigh brushed against Katelyn's lips before she sunk into the chair and laid her arms loosely over the armrests, "The sooner we're done here, the sooner we can go our separate ways." Katelyn's voice wrapped around the sound of her nails drumming against the wooden armrest.

Jungkook's brows pinched together and eyes trailed down to her dirt covered hands. A brow was raised as he eyed the girl resting in the chair- realising that she had changed since the last time he saw her, "I have." Jungkook muttered weakly, eyeing the hint of muscles on Kate's body as she nodded and shifted in the seat.

"You see, real life is kind of like a movie, but not really." Katelyn huffed out a sarcastic laugh, only to abruptly cut herself off and lean forward in her seat. The expression on her face was serious as she peered up at Jungkook from behind her lashes and strands of blonde hair, "Movies usually show only the perspective of the hero, they never focus on the villain or the reason behind who they are."

"Stop talking about movies, I don't give a shit about some stupid heroes or villains. You kidnapped me, let me go or when I get out of these ropes, I will kill you." Jungkook curled his lip into a sneer and tried to lean closer to Kate, only to be stopped by the rope wrapped around his chest.

Ignoring Jungkook's small tantrum completely, Katelyn fell back into her chair and placed her elbow onto the arm rest. She pressed her fingers against her chin and watched Jungkook intensely, "You should care since you're basically a villain yourself." Katelyn's muttered under her breath.

Jungkook's glare was directed away from the floor and over to Katelyn. His jaw clenched and teeth ground against each other, strands of his sweaty hair stuck to his forehead, and a droplet of sweat rolled down his neck and soaked into his shirt. Jungkook kept his lips sealed shut and eyes piercing into Katelyn's indifferent ones, yet inside he was boiling and thinking of how to get out of these ropes, so that he'd be able to wrap his hands around Kate's neck and strangle her to death.

"I'm not a villain." Jungkook gritted, gripping onto the armrests and digging his fingernails into the wood.

A small crease formed between Katelyn's brows as she watched Jungkook with a small frown, "I saw it- the traps, the pile of bodies. I went back into the forest because I thought I'd see you again, but instead I found about your little hobby." A bitter laugh bubbled inside Katelyn's throat as she shook her head side to side, "Heroes don't do that. But you know who does?" Katelyn leaned closer to Jungkook- placing her elbows on her knees and lowering her voice as she breathed out without looking away from Jungkook's eyes, "Villains."

"I'm not a villain!" Jungkook hissed and lunged forward, only for the ropes to tighten and slam him back into the chair. Heavy pants escaped through Jungkook's parted lips and his nostrils flared. The glare he sent Katelyn was murderous and full of hatred, yet he couldn't deny the prickling in his eyes, "You have a lot of nerve to kidnap me and then tell me a bunch of bullshit on how I'm the bad guy! I'm not the bad guy here, if anyone's the villain, it's fucking you!"

"Oh, look at you!" Katelyn grinned, waving her hand into his face, making Jungkook lunge forward and snap his teeth at her, "When did you start using big boy words?" Katelyn teased, ripping her hand back before Jungkook could sink his teeth into her skin.

Melting into the chair, Jungkook blew a strand of brown hair out of his face and continued to glare at Katelyn, "I hate you." He whispered, letting his hatred and disgust show through his words.

"And I care about you."

Silence slithered in through the gap between the door and the floor- filling up to room to the brim. Jungkook's glare had faltered and lips parted to release a stuttering breath. He stared back at Katelyn- running his eyes over her serious facial features to try and find any traces of lying, before swallowing down the lump in his throat and scoffing back at her,

"Liar."

"Am I?" Katelyn mused, tilting her head to the side and tucking a strand of loose hair behind her ear, "Am I really?"

Jungkook's brown eyes rolled in a circle and fingers curled around the arm rests, "You're selfish, cruel, manipulative, heartless, egoistic, hmmm, what else? Literally every bad personality trait that exists, lives in you." Jungkook spat, offering her a tight, sarcastic smile.

Katelyn's lips twitched in amusement and she nodded in agreement, "You know I never said I wasn't the bad guy. Just told you that, now, you are one too. You're just like me, Kook, maybe even wors-"

"I'm not like you!" Jungkook screamed- split flying out of his mouth, and a bright red colour lighting up his pale cheeks and the tips of his ears. Jungkook huffed and tugged at the ropes roughly, only for them to dig and scratch at his skin, "You think I'm like you? Don't make me laugh, I know you and I know myself, we're nothing alike!"

"Is that so?" Katelyn scoffed, her expression dropping as she pushed out of her chair and marched over to Jungkook. She placed her hands on top of Jungkook's tied up wrists to prevent him from wiggling around and breaking his skin, "I knew a boy once." Katelyn whispered, crouching down in front of Jungkook, all while still keeping her hands locked onto his wrists, "A boy that would feel and care so deeply about anything and everything, that it physically hurt him. It wasn't the big things that gave away how much you cared about others, it was the little things." Katelyn's eyes became hazy as she looked off to the side as if remembering something, "It was things like pushing past your classmates to save a spider, and then running away from your math class to release it onto a flower petal outside. It was things like sneaking behind our backs to leave little encouraging notes inside Sage's locker to make her smile, or..or even how you always were the first one to offer someone your pencils, even if it was your last one and you had to spend the entire lesson using only your pen."

"That sounds so nice." Jungkook rolled his eyes sarcastically, trying to pull his hands away from Katelyn's, only for the rope to prevent it. Jungkook gave up with a scoff, "That's not me anymore. People change, you may not like it but it's the truth. Expecting me to be the same person I was in school is delusional and ignorant, grow up and let me go." Jungkook spat harshly- not wanting to listen to anymore bullshit Kate was spewing.

Katelyn nodded with a sharp exhale and stood up- looming over Jungkook and staring down at him with determination, "Fine, you don't want to talk about yourself, then let's talk about me."

"Of course we're gonna talk about you." Jungkook grumbled under his breath- voice dripping with irritation and sarcasm.

"Truth is, Jeongguk, people aren't just bad or just good. It all depends on who's telling the story."

Jungkook rolled his eyes and sunk further into the seat, rolling his head around to get rid of the aching in his neck, "So basically you kidnapped me because you want to what? Tell me your evil plans? Tell me your origin story?" Jungkook scoffed and peered up at Katelyn with a hateful glare, "I don't care about anything you say, stop wasting my time and let me go."

Katelyn crossed her arms over her chest and tapped her foot against the ground, "God, this new Jungkook is irritating." She muttered.

Jungkook merely rolled his eyes in return and allowed his glare to follow Katelyn as the girl turned around and walk over to her seat. He observed how her hair was tied into a pony tail with little braids mixed in the middle, how her body had become more masculine and how she wasn't afraid to get herself tainted with blood and dirt. Jungkook remembered how Katelyn used to always have long, neon nails and how she always wore fake lashes, he remembered how she was ashamed of her curly hair so she straightened it out. This girl in front of him was so far from the Katelyn in Jungkook's memories, that he almost didn't recognise her when it was time to face her in real life.

A deep sigh brought Jungkook out of his thoughts, making his eyes flicker up to Katelyn's green ones. The pair stared at each other for a few seconds of silence before Katelyn ran her tongue over her lip and began to speak, "I...wasn't always a selfish, manipulative bitch. I actually used to be nice to people, really nice." Katelyn chuckled bitterly, looking off to the side and pressing her tongue against her cheek.

She released a deep sigh through her nose and shook her head, "I used to watch these movies about how friends are one of the best things that can happen to you and how you can get through anything with them by your side. I wanted that." Katelyn whispered through a smile, looking up at Jungkook with a slight shine over her eyes, "I wanted friends because I didn't want to be alone when things got hard. I wanted someone to depend on, but....but I had to find out the bitter truth that friends, they aren't like what they show in movies or in tv-shows. Friends lie, talk shit behind your back and say mean things to you. Friends...they leave you behind and they aren't there when things get hard."

Swallowing down the lump in his throat, Jungkook sunk his teeth into his bottom lip and looked down at the rips in his jeans. Katelyn's voice was laced with more emotion that he's ever seen from her. It seemed like she had ripped off all the masks that once adored her face and now she was allowing Jungkook to take a peek at the most vulnerable parts of herself, all while hoping that Jungkook didn't reach out and dig a finger into them.

"But I didn't want to give up."

Jungkook's eyes flickered up and momentarily connected with Katelyn's before he knitted his brows and turned away- not being able to meet her eyes.

Katelyn pulled her sleeves over her fingers and crossed one leg over the other, "Yet the nicer I became, the more people began to take advantage of my kindness. I thought that when they talked to me, they were my friends, but in reality...they just wanted something from me, and when they got it...they were gone."

"You think your little sob story will make me feel bad for you? It still doesn't excuse anything you did!" Jungkook gritted, swinging his head around towards Katelyn and sending her a sharp glare, making the girl flinch and glare back at him, "You tormented so many people, made everyone hate them and push them away! Nothing you say now will make me feel bad for you! You know why?" Jungkook lowered his voice and hissed, shaking his head to get his hair out of his face, "Because unlike you, I still remember the look on Sage's face when I poured that stupid smoothie on her head! Unlike you, I feel bad for what I did!"

"You think I never felt bad?" Katelyn spat in disbelief.

"Of course, you didn't!" Jungkook cried out, looking at her like she had lost her mind, "You did it again and again, and never looked like you regretted anything! You're selfish and cruel and.. and-"

"I felt bad! God, I felt so much remorse when I saw her cowering from me every time we passed each other in hallways, or how her eyes always followed me in case I tried to do something to he-"

"Then why'd you do it!" Jungkook screamed in return, feeling his eyes gloss over from tears of frustration.

"Because I was jealous!"

The words on Jungkook's tongue died out at the words thrown back at him. Harsh pants fell past his lips and his wide eyes stayed glued on Katelyn's form. The girl dropped into the wooden chair and pressed her hands against her face before dragging them down her face and dropping her hands into her lap.

"You..."

"I was jealous, Jungkook." Katelyn murmured softly, staring down at her fingers as she tugged her sleeves over her hands, "God, I always tried so hard to please everyone and make them all like me. I tried and I tried, I did everything I could but students still continued to use me and the teachers just...didn't like me no matter what I did." Katelyn whispered softly, pulling one of her legs on top of the chair and placing her chin on top of her knee. She blinked away the tears in her eyes and ran her fingers over the rough material of her jeans.

"And then Sage came, and everyone just magically gravitated towards her." Katelyn scoffed- her expression growing cold and dark, and her hands tightening around her leg, "She didn't even try, she just...she was just there. The teachers always praised her and students always chose her, but all she did was stand there and do nothing! I did everything! I tried so hard, but I was never the one!" Katelyn's eyes snapped up towards Jungkook and the look on her face was desperate and full of confusion, "Why was I never the one?" She breathed out, allowing tears to prickle her eyes.

"Maybe because you were a try-hard." Jungkook deadpanned with no emotion.

"Asshole."

"Don't kidnap me and maybe I won't be one."

"Oh, fuck off." Katelyn grumbled, pressing her fingers against the back of her neck and scratching the itching spot there, "The thing is, Jeongguk, I hated Kate because she got everything I've ever wanted without batting an eye. And after watching everyone love her and always chose her, I was finally done." Kate placed her chin on top of her knees and tilted her head to the side as she peered up at Jungkook, "Everyone always saw me as the bad one compared to everyone else, and I had enough of trying to prove them wrong. So I chose to become the person they always saw me as."

A bitter chuckle ripped out of Katelyn's throat and her green eyes glossed over with a thin layer of crystalline tears, "No one even noticed as I slowly began to change. They didn't care enough to pay me attention to me, except for when they needed something, and that's exactly what gave me the chance to start a bit of a....revolution, I guess."

Jungkook rose an unimpressed brow in return, "Revolution is a bit too....complimentary for you." He grumbled under his breath, ignoring the sigh of annoyance Kate directed at him.

"Anyway," Katelyn emphasised the word- sending a sugary sweet smile towards Jungkook, paired with a small glare. Her face dropped back into the blank look and legs lifted off the chair to press against the ground, "I chose the students who had been pushed away from the rest of the school- the bullied, the loners, the nerds- and I changed them. I made them better, stronger, more beautiful, their attitudes towards things changed with it, along with how they treated others." Katelyn murmured with a small shrug, "The cold and confident personas I created captured the rest of the school's attention and made them gravitate towards us. But we never allowed them to get close to us and we depended only on the small circle we created, which turned us into the populars."

Boredom was painted across Jungkook's features as he rested against the chair. His eyes squeezed shut and lips parted as a yawn tore out of his mouth before his lips smacked together and he blinked lazily at Katelyn, "I think I'm gonna take a nap. Your sob story is awfully boring and I should use this time away from everything to do something productive." Jungkook mumbled and allowed his eyes to flutter shut, only for his head to roll around and fall against the back of the chair.

Silence engulfed the room yet again, allowing sleep to wrap around Jungkook head and tug at his hand. Just as he was about to sink into a light slumber, the sound of a door clicking shut grabbed him by his scruff and lifted him out of his dream-like state.

Jungkook's eyes snapped open and head fell forward, his eyes immediately attached to the empty chair in front of him before flickering up to the door of the hut. His eyes squinted and lip got captured between his teeth as he twisted his head around to try and spot Katelyn, only to see that she was no longer in the house.

"Yes!" Jungkook beamed quietly, not wasting time as he began to twist his wrists around to try and get his hands free.

A few hours had passed since the group left the meeting with the governor and returned to the prison. Taehyung spent most of that time with the governor's man- Martinez- trying to look for Jungkook. Taehyung found out a few things about Martinez, one of them being that he hated walkers with a passion since they slaughtered his entire family. Taehyung grown to like Martinez as a person but quickly brushed these thoughts away since he knew that if they went to war, which they will since the governor refused their deal, there was a possibility that either of them could die from each other's hand.

Taehyung and Martinez spent an hour tracking down Jungkook until the sun set and Martinez was called back by the governor. For the rest of the journey home, the group was on edge, and the empty seat in the back seemed to weight heavy on their shoulders. Yet, despite the feeling of worry and anxiety, Taehyung held onto the fact that Jungkook was strong and he could take care of himself. Hence why he was the first to volunteer to go out and look for Jungkook. Or perhaps it was the guilt in the pit of his stomach for not keeping the younger boy out of harms way.

"Ya' got everything?"

A gruff voice and a nudge against his back brought Taehyung out of his thoughts. He blinked down at the trunk of the car before shaking his head and looking up at Daryl. The older male threw his bag into the trunk of the car and turned to look at Taehyung- giving the younger a sour scowl.

Taehyung cleared his throat and pulled his bag off of his shoulder before swinging it into the trunk, "Yeah," he mumbled, lifting his hands and grabbing the trunk before slamming it shut.

Daryl ignored him and manoeuvred around the car to the passenger seat, earning an eye-roll from Taehyung. Brushing away strands of raven hair from his eyes, Taehyung approached the driver's seat and turned his head to look at Rick.

The leader was standing a few metres away from the grey car- his arms crossed over his chest and a frown on his face. Noticing Tae's gaze, Rick offered him a small nod, which Taehyung returned.

Taehyung curler his fingers around the handle of the door and pulled it open before sliding into the car and joining Daryl. The older had pulled his chair back, allowing him to lay down and shut his eyes. The position reminded him of how he had acted when Jungkook was learning how to drive a car, which made him realise how much stress and anxiety he placed on the younger, instead of comforting and being there with him in every step of the way.

"Fuc-"

"Just drive." Daryl cut him off before Taehyung could utter the curse word. His head swung around and eyes squinted, creating small crinkles in the corners of his eyes.

At the sight of Daryl sinking into the seat with his eyes shut and arms laying over his stomach, Taehyung turned to gaze back at the gate in front of him with a small eye-roll. He drummed his fingers against the steering wheel and pressed down on the gas pedal as Rick opened the gate, allowing them to drive through, before slamming it shut behind them.

Taehyung was ready to go out and find Jungkook. He knew that they'd find him one way or another, wether it be his walking corpse or his warm, breathing body. Taehyung hoped that it was the latter, but he still had to prepare himself just in case. And if Jungkook turned out to be safe and sound without a scratch on his body, Taehyung would beat his ass until it was bright red and he wouldn't be able to sit down for a month.

Small huffs and grunts slipped past Jungkook's saliva coated lips as he wiggled around and tried to loosen the ropes around him. The skin around his wrists was bright red and a bit bloody due to the rope digging and sliding against his skin. The more Jungkook struggled against the ropes, the looser they became, but the more his skin peeled off and his hands bruised.

"Please, please, please." Jungkook breathed out, glancing up at the door anxious, in case Katelyn came back, before looking back down at his bloody wrists.

Katelyn had left 20 minutes ago and still hadn't come back. Jungkook was conflicted by her return- one half hoping that she would come back and the other hoping that she wouldn't. Jungkook was scared of being left tied to a chair all alone in a hut- fearing that a walker or some psycho survivor would stumble upon him and he wouldn't be able to defend himself. Jungkook would feel safer if Katelyn was here, because a part of him hoped that, what she said about caring about him, was true, which would make her protect him to a certain extent. While the other part of Jungkook didn't trust her at all and hoped that she wouldn't come back for at least a few hours- giving Jungkook the opportunity to get out of these ropes and return to the prison safely.

Unfortunately luck didn't seem to be on Jungkook's side and the conflicting thoughts, rushing through his mind, were shattered by the door creaking open and Katelyn marching through.

Coffee coloured eyes flew up to the blond girl, yet his hands didn't stop trashing around, not even when Katelyn froze and squinted her eyes at his hands, "Jeon..." Katelyn grumbled with an eye-roll, taking long confident strides towards a bambi eyed Jungkook.

The bunny teethed boy could feel the rope loosening around his right wrist just as Katelyn was about to reach him. Inhaling a sharp breath, Jungkook squeezed his eyes shut and ripped his hand out from underneath the tight rope with a small whimper. The skin around his wrist ripped off, causing a droplet of blood to roll down his hand and fall onto the rope.

Katelyn's eyes widened at the sight before she lunged forward and tried to grab Jungkook's free hand, only for him to hiss and push her away. Katelyn stumbled back and striped over her feet, causing her to fall to the ground and land on her butt.

Jungkook paid her no mind and quickly shifted around the seat and grabbed onto the ropes on his other wrist. He wiggled his tied wrist around and tried to untie his hand with his free one, yet before he could do anything else, Katelyn scrambled off of the ground and grabbed his hand- trying to avoid touching his sore wrist.

"Get off!" Jungkook screeched, struggling and trashing around, only to barely move since ropes wrapped around his chest and legs, "Stop! Stop!" He shouted, trying to pull his hand out of Katelyn's tight hold as she slammed his hand back down on the armrest and hastily tied the rope around it.

"This is for your own good! Stop struggling, I'll let you go later!" Katelyn screamed back in return- panic evident in her voice and anxiety making her eyes glisten. Her hands trembled and face scrunched up as she fought against Jungkook's strength and forced his hand down.

"Let me go now!" Jungkook growled, trying to kick his leg out, only for the rope to prevent him from moving. He groaned and flinched as the rope slid past his sore wrists before being wrapped around his forearm instead.

Katelyn ignored Jungkook's threats and yells, and quickly tied him back to the chair. Concern flashed across her eyes as they flickered down to Jungkook's bloody wrist before she shook her head and stepped away.

"I will let you go." Katelyn mumbled calmly, trying to control her erratic breathing and wiping away the droplet of sweat rolling down her temple, "I will." She stated more confidentially without looking away from Jungkook's dark eyes, only to receive a hate filled glare in return.
