Summary: There was a secret amongst the Potter family that no one else knew of. They had a curse on them, a curse that was cast centuries ago by an unrequited love. It was known as 'The Hearts Curse'. It was a curse that only allowed members of the Potter family to love once, but this curse also backfired upon the caster's intent as they had believed it would make Alfred Potter (grandson of Henry and Iolanthe Potter) to fall in love with them but in truth that didn't happen. Instead all members of the Potter family would still only love once but they would love deeply and madly with that one true love. That could not ring more true than for Jasmine Alia Potter - the first girl in centuries - who fell for her best friend Sirius Orion Black. They had been thick as thieves since they met on the train, but that didn't give her courage but made her more anxious whether to tell him or not. Until he and Reggie turned up on her doorstep bloody the summer before their sixth year.

Sirius Orion Black was many things but a player wasn't one of them despite the rumours that people had spread about him. He just hadn't argued against them as it wound up his mother until before the end of fifth his best friend, Remus John Lupin pulled him aside rather angrily upon hearing the latest rumour surrounding him and one Hestia Smith. He had almost shouted himself hoarse at Sirius for how he had never believed he could be so callous nor that he would hurt Jasmine like this, after he had confided in Remus of his feelings for the Potter Heiress.

It was then that Sirius realised two things: one, allowing these rumours to circulate had only managed to hurt the young woman he liked and who was his best friend after swearing he would never hurt her; and two Jasmine liked him back but he may have screwed things up.

Which was why when he and Reggie left the Black family home - both injured - and caught the Knight Bus to the bottom of the mountains where Potter manor resided in John O'Groats in Caithness, Scotland and made the long journey towards the manor, Sirius swore to himself that he would confess his feelings for her.
