Chapter Two
As the bell rang dismissing us from science, May rushed me to hurry up.
"Come on," she jumps up and down, "Lets gooooooo,"
I grab my things as fast I can, "Why are you such in a rush?"
She looks behind me and whispers, "Because I have to tell you something,"
I sigh and got my things and she pulled me along like I was a dog on a leash. As we got to the doorway, I tripped over my own feet. Great. I'm so graceful.
"Thanks May," I say as I leaned down to grab them.
"It's alright, I got them," Wes says out of nowhere and picks up my stuff.
"Thanks?" I say, but it comes out like a question.
"Anytime," he says with a smile and leaves.
May stands there looking back and forth between us.
"What?"
"I think Wes likes you," she whispers and looks around her, "Remember what he said before?"
I look at her clueless, "Wes. Likes me. Ha. Good one May,"
"I'm serious! He said and I quote 'I'm afraid I can't do that.' He totally likes you!" she whisper yells.
I roll my eyes, "Stop imagining the impossible, May, that will never happen,"
"It's true!" she argues, "Trust me, just watch. He is definitely going to ask you out sooner or later,"
"Ugh, whatever May," I roll my eyes, "What do you have next?"
"Math with Mrs. Goodman,"
"Really? Me too!" I say.
"Awesome, let's go," she says.
We walk to class and I accidentally bump into Wes.
"Oh my gosh, I'm sorry," I say instantly, but my face drops when I see him.
"No problem," he says with a smirk, "Do you have a pencil I could borrow?"
"Oh sure," I say giving him the only pencil I have.
"Thanks," he says and leaves.
Why did I just do that? It's so obvious that I like him.
May pulls on my sleeve and whispers, "Why did you do that?"
I shake my head and sigh, "I have no clue,"
We walk into class and sit down, "Do you have a pencil I could borrow?"
She gives me a look, "Even using the same words as him? And sure,"
I took the pencil and started writing the stuff on the board like May was doing. I'm so stupid. Why? Why? Why?
Class ended and we walked to the cafeteria. It was packed even though the bell rang a minute ago. We both sigh and stand in the longest line ever.
"Get use to it," May complains, "It's like this everyday,"
I nod, "Yeah, it was like this at my old school,"
While waiting in line, I took the opportunity to take in my surroundings. The lunchroom was pretty big compared to the one I was used to and a bunch of people were swarming from table to table. I saw Wes sitting at his table and saw a girl come up to him. They said their greetings and she hugged him.
"Eww, Sabrina," May says knowing that I'm looking over there, "She's always all over Wes and it's pretty obvious that Wes is so not into her,"
"But she's pretty," I remark, observing her nicely curled strawberry blonde hair.
"Yeah, but an a-hole," May replies, "She is so annoying. If any other girl merely talks to him or stands by him, she rages. It's funny, but deadly,"
We finally get our lunch and sit at a table. As I sit down, I hear a bunch of laughter from the table across from us. The "popular" girls were looking at me, while Sabrina was glaring.
"Just ignore them," May suggests, "They just want to ruin your lives. Don't be surprised by that, since pretty much everybody knows that you got a tour of the school by the hottest kid in our class,"
"Great, I knew my first day would be a tragedy," I say, biting into my sandwich with anger.
May rolls her eyes, "Okay, Miss Dramatic. First of all, you got a tour from Wes. Wes Day. For crying out loud, how could this day be a tragedy for you,"
This time I roll my eyes, "Being called the hottest guy is an opinion, because I think he's the rudest,"
May shakes her head and picks at her salad, "Time. You just need time to realize it,"
"He's a player! He like dated all of those girls from that table," I point out.
She ponders and nods, "True, but still. And I'm not done about the list. Second is that he said that he can't leave you alone, remember?"
I continue eating, trying to ignore her.
"UGH CATHY! THAT TOTALLY MEANS HE LIKES YOU!!!" she exclaims. I laugh.
"This is not a laughing matter, Cathy. This is serious. Even though we like just met three hours ago, I'm telling you the truth. A truth that only a true friend can see,"
She puts both of her hands on my shoulders and shakes me, "JUST WAKE UP AND OPEN YOUR EYES!"
I start choking and I hear a voice behind me, "You all right?"
I turn around and realize that it was Wes. May gives me a look saying I told you so. I roll my eyes and shake my head.
"Do you need something?" I ask turning back to Wes, ignoring the fact that May was glaring at me.
"Oh yeah, here's your pencil back," he said smiling, making my heart beat faster.
I cleared my throat, trying to snap out of his spell, "Thanks,"
"See ya later," he said with a wave and left.
"Tell me you didn't see that?" May says.
"See what?" I asked, confused.
She slapped her hands against the table, making me jump.
"HE GAVE YOU BACK YOUR PENCIL!" she shouted and then whispered, "Nobody, I mean nobody does that,"
I laugh and shake my head, "So you're saying he's confessing his love to me by giving back my pencil?"
She smacks her hand against her forehead, "You know what? I give up, you know nothing about love. Which brings me this question, have you ever been in a relationship?"
I shake my head and she gasps with her hand on her chest, over exaggerating.
"You have never dated anyone?" she says, shocked.
I shake my head and gestured toward me, "Why is that a surprise? Look at me,"
"You have such low self-esteem. Just look at you! You could probably fit in at that table over there!" she points her chin at the popular table.
I raise my eyebrow, "I take that as an offensive thing,"
She rolls her eyes for the billionth time, "You know what I mean, but seriously. Look at you, perfect brunette hair and hazel eyes,"
We decided to dump our trays and on the way back, someone decided to bump into me and a waterfall of liquid spilled on my shirt.
"Oh, I'm soo sorry," Sabrina says with a smirk and then whispers as she passes me, "It could have been worse,"
"Sabrina!" I hear Wes call out angrily, "Was that really necessary?"
He took off his sweatshirt and in the process of that, part of his abs showed. I blushed and looked down.
Sabrina glared at me once again and strutted away.
"Here take this," Wes said and shoved his sweatshirt in my hands, "I'll be back, make sure to take that shirt off before you put it on,"
And with that he ran off following Sabrina, who was glowing with rage.
~~~
"What in the world!?!?" May said outside of the bathroom stall door, "When did he put that sweatshirt on and how did he show up at that exact moment?"
I came out and started to wring out my soaked shirt.
"Geez, she poured a lot on you," May observed over my shoulder.
"You think?" I said, putting out all of my anger out on the shirt.
"At least you weren't wearing white. Boy, would that be a sight to see," May giggled.
I tried drying my shirt under the drier, but it was still damp afterwards.
"I still can't believe he gave you his sweatshirt," May muttered.
I shrugged, "I'm pretty sure we all know that Sabrina is a biscuit, so why wouldn't he? Plus he was just being nice, probably to make up for the part when he was a jerk,"
She shakes her head as I continue, "Remember what he told me this morning? That I should have stayed quiet? He's probably trying to convince me that I like him and then we'll start dating. And after that, he'll break up with me saying that he told me so and ta-da, there you have it,"
"First of all, biscuit? You know I don't care if you say the actual word, right? You know what scratch that, you have probably never said a swear word before in your life. And second," she reasoned, "You could be right, but I highly doubt it. Did you see the way he looks at you or when he was mad at Sabrina? No! You didn't because you clearly can't see what's in front of you!" she waves her hands around in the air.
"Ugh, you need to stop this nonsense May," I pleaded and walked out the door.
She followed, "Alright, but don't tell me I didn't say so,"
And with that she went in the other direction, leaving me alone.
