Carla was rudely awakened by the blinding sun coming through the blinds of the bedroom, she groaned before burying her head under the pillow and turning over before she clocked the place she woke up wasn't where she fell asleep originally.

She sat up immediately, suddenly highly alert, and scanned her surroundings. She eventually realised she was in someone's bedroom, but who's exactly?Last thing she remembered was resting her head on Monty's shoulder.. so she must've fallen asleep a few moments after that, but why was she here now?
She quickly made her way downstairs and saw Monty in the kitchen at the stove, making breakfast.

"Oh, you're awake, morning." He turned around and smiled at her as he was dishing up Penny's breakfast, which consisted of a few pancakes practically swimming in syrup and fruit.

"Care to explain how I got from the sofa to your bed?" She asked, wasting no time by cutting to the chase.

"I couldn't leave you asleep on the sofa, that's not very gentleman-like, so I thought I'd just put you in my bed." He shrugged, not seeing the big deal as he began making Carla some pancakes.

"Where did you sleep?" She raised her eyebrows, taking a seat at the kitchen island.

"On the sofa, don't worry, I'd ask before I slept next to you." He grinned, plating up her breakfast and sliding it over to her.

"Never said I was worried." Carla mumbled as she took a bite of her pancakes, not loud enough for him to make out what she was saying.

"What?" He asked, debating in his head whether she just spoke really quietly or he made it up in his head from pure delusions.

"Nothing." She smiled, pleasantly enjoying her pancakes, she didn't take Monty for such a good cook.

"Anyway, it's your fault, you're the one that fell asleep on me." He grinned widely, teasing her slightly with a playful hint in his voice.

"I didn't mean to fall asleep." She rolled her eyes and glared at him.

"Mhm, sure." He smirked, not buying her excuse.

"Anyway, what time do you want me to leave?" Carla changed the subject, taking a sip of the coffee Monty had just made for her.

"Penny wanted you to come to the zoo with us if you don't have any plans for today?" Monty got up from the table and undid his apron and put it on a hook by the back door.

"..Are you sure the zoo is the best idea? Considering her nightmares recently?" Carla raised her eyebrows in confusion, she knew Penny had been having constant nightmares about her bear attack for a couple consecutive nights in a row for a while now, which made Carla question whether the zoo, a place full of wild animals, was the best choice for a day out for her.

"She was adamant on it, plus her therapist has been saying I should expose her to more animals to show her that they're not all bad." He sighed and sat opposite her, drinking his own coffee.

"Carla?" A voice shouted from the living room.

"Yeah?" Carla shouted back, smiling to herself once she recognised the voice.

"Can you do my hair for me please?" It shouted back, Carla grinned as she got up from her chair and took Penny's breakfast into her.

Penny sat watching Tangled infront of the tv whilst she ate her breakfast and Carla braided her hair. Monty eventually joined the two and sat peacefully watching them, as he knew if he had to watch another second of Tangled he'd go insane

Eventually, with great struggle, the three of them managed to get out the door and to the zoo in one piece. They watched Penny run around to all the different animals with the biggest smile on her face and Monty felt like the proudest big brother ever, he felt so fulfilled with his life in this moment, he never wanted it to end.

Carla also felt the same, watching Penny make good out of such a horrible situation gave her hope for herself if hypothetically she ever went through something like this. Watching her friend, and basically little sister, run around with the biggest grin plastered on her face that was caused and created by such a little thing filled her with so much joy and happiness for life, it felt like sunlight itself was giving her the biggest and warmest hug.

"She looks so happy." Carla said, her smile not faltering once.

"She is, I don't know how she does it." Monty said back, having the same look stuck on his face like the Latina did.

"Thank you.. for giving me the opportunity to be involved in her life like this." Carla said, looking towards him and slowing her walking pace and brushing her hand against his slightly.

"You don't have to thank me, Carla, thank you for helping me with her. I know it's not easy all the time with her ups and downs and I know it's not easy putting up with me all the time.. but you still do it. So.. thank you." He smiled as he stopped walking completely, trying to ignore her brushing his hand.

"Okay jesus I didn't mean get sappy." She scowled and giggled after, "Kidding.. but you're right, it's not easy putting up with you." She grinned.

"Wow.." He fake gasped.

"I'm kidding!" She laughed, hitting him playfully on the arm.

"Sure you are." He rolled his eyes, beginning to walk slowly towards his little sister.

The brunette smiled as they walked to catch up to Penny, holding the tip of his fingers within her hand.

Monty looked away, trying to hide the obvious blush that was turning his face from his usual pasty pale skin tone to a similar shade to the red light on a traffic light. He held onto her hand tighter, placing more of his fingers in her palm.

Carla smirked, craning her head moderately to try see his face. She just giggled quietly to herself and interlocked her fingers with his as she walked, using her free hand to wave to Penny.

As they made their way to Penny, she was more excited then ever. In the time it took them to get to her, she had circled the tiger enclosure fully three times and managed to make 'friends' with the local robin by feeding it scraps of food people had dropped on the floor. She practically dragged Monty into the gift shop, forming a human chain since Carla's hand was still firmly glued to his.

"Monty, look at this!" She squealed with excitement as she dragged Monty over to the plushie section and to the massive bear.

Carla and Monty froze, looking at eachother with worry.

"Penny, woah.. look at the giraffe!" Carla tried to point out the other plushies to her, attempting to draw her attention away from the bear.

"But the bear!" She whined, picking him up and hugging it.

"You.. want that one? Really?" Monty questioned, a concerned look on his face.

Penny nodded vigorously, smiling widely as she squeezed it.

Carla and Monty just stared eachother, arguing with their eyes. What were they meant to do in this situation? Would this help her nightmares or make them ten times worse? What if this brought back nasty memories of the bear attack? Carla figured it couldn't help to give it a go.

"Okay.. how much is it?" Carla asked, subtly looking for a price tag.

"Uhm.. fifty dollars." Penny beamed.

"Fifty?!" Carla practically shouted, majority of people in the shop looking at her dumbfounded.

"I'll pay, don't worry." Monty chuckled, pulling his wallet out and grabbing the money and handing it to Penny as she happily waddled over to the checkout.

"Since when did plushies get so pricey?!" Carla whisper-shouted into his ear.

"I'm used to it by now, trying having her 24/7." He chuckled again.

Penny soon came back running over to them and hugging Monty tightly while chanting a million 'thank you's to him, and even then she didn't stop until they got in the car and drove all the way home, where she soon passed out in the back of the car from exhaustion from such a good day out.

"I can't believe you bought her that bear." Carla had an expression of half amusement and half terror, looking at Penny sound asleep through her rearview mirror.

"I couldn't say no, let's just hope it helps." He sighed and smiled, parking his car outside the house.

"How do you have enough money to spend it like that?" Carla questioned, turning to face him.

"I set some aside, I call it 'Penny money.'" He grinned, turning the car off.

"So how much 'Carla money' do you have set aside?" She smirked playfully, half expecting him not to answer.

"Eh, about three dollars, I top it up after I buy you coffee." He grinned, getting out the car and picking Penny up gently.

"And how much does she get?" She asked as she got out the car, intrigued by his earlier statement.

"I can't disclose that." He giggled, locking the car and the front door behind Carla as she stepped inside and took her shoes off.

Carla rolled her eyes and smiled, placing her shoes by the front door and following Monty upstairs as he tucked the sleeping Penny into bed. Carla shut her blinds for her and smiled at her before exiting the room and shutting the door carefully as to not wake her up.

"She's gonna be out for a while now." Monty said, walking downstairs and into his bedroom, Carla followed and sat on his bed, "Do you want to sleep over again?"

"Mm, depends, are you gonna leave me alone in your bed again?" She raised her eyebrows, a small smile forming on her face.

"I thought you'd prefer that?" Monty said, his face turning to a similar shade as it did a couple hours ago when Carla held his hand.

"What if the big, scary, psycho killer from the film we watched yesterday breaks in and kidnaps me? And you weren't there to save me?" She smirked.

"First, that's an incredible hypothetical situation that's extremely unlikely to happen. And second, we both know full well you can defend yourself, probably better than I could defend you." He stared at her blankly.

"Well, if it does happen and the police find and interview me, I'm telling them it was your fault." She smiled cynically at him as he turns away and goes downstairs.

As soon as Monty leaves he is internally screaming in the hallway, how is she so smooth? And why the fuck is he too much of a pussy to take her up on that offer? Not like he would, because he doesn't like her like that, obviously. But still, even he knows he's a massive pussy when it comes to flirtatious advances and he continued beating himself up over it until he eventually fell asleep.
