Chapter 14- Daisy chains and disproving rumours
———
As the wind blew the grass delicately from side to side the "stupid class", plus Carla, Lily, and Billy, began to assemble in their local park. It was the hangout spot that everyone went to, considering it was the only real habitable part of their small town.
Billy and Lily sat beneath the ginormous oak tree, fiddling and picking the grass every now again whilst Billy lovingly watched Ted help Penny make and distribute daisy chains to every single one of their friends, which he was doing a decent job at.
"Here is your daisy chain, Miss Lily, the maker wants to apologise that she wasn't able to accommodate your special request of lily's instead of daisy's." Ted sighed which he followed with a little giggle.
"That's okay, this is beautiful! Send my compliments to the designer." She smiled before carefully putting it over her head, making sure to double check it wasn't getting tangled in her short, navy-coloured hair.
"And here's yours, Mr Monstermon." Ted blushed a shade of light pink before handing his boyfriend a replica of Lily's chain.
"Please Teddy, no need for formalities, although it's nice to see you taking your job seriously," He smiled at Theo's dedication to stay in character for Penny, "It's just a shame you don't come as a complementary gift." He pulled the blonde closer and whispered in his ear.
Theo whispered something back with a wide smirk on his face, causing Billy to turn the matching shade to a tomato before he smacked his hand over his mouth as his boyfriend walked off.
"For goodness sake, what did he say now?" Lily groaned and rolled her eyes, it was a daily occurance that the couple would whisper dirty jokes in eachothers ear and see who got the best reaction.
"Oh, er- nothing, I just- choked on my own spit." Billy coughed, trying to pull himself together.
"Bullshit, give you ten minutes before you start fanboying to me over whatever he said." She scoffed.
"Rude! You have no faith in me." The boy sulked at his sister's, probably true, prediction
"Correct." She punches him lightly on the arm, earning an "Ow!" from her twin, which breaks her into laughter.
A little further away, Buggs and Carla are talking near one of the benches in the far left corner of the park while Carla is looking through her bag, making sure all her products that had been pre-ordered a few days before were all in there, waiting for their buyers.
"So, how's the love life going?" Buggs asked innocently, this was a common conversation starter the two had. After Carla agreed to tutor Buggs for a semester the two got very close, like brother and sister, always looking out for eachother and Carla even gave him discounts to her shop, and she does that for no one.
"Eh, nothing new, what about you? Got further with a certain someone yet?" Carla smiled as she said the last sentence, both of them knew very well who she was getting at.
"Kind of? I don't know, she's so confusing man. Love is hard." He shrugs and laughs slightly before lighting his joint.
"I think you just picked a tough one, I know Cindy's like my closest friend, but she is hard work. Good luck with that one." She raised her eyebrows and giggled, before seeing a frequent customour approach her.
"Tell me about it, it's only been a few weeks and i'm already regretting it." Buggs takes a drag on his joint.
"Don't be horrible, she's worth it. What can I get for you, Alice?" Carla rolls her eyes and turns to face one of her regular customers.
"Just the usual, however.." Carla began to pick out a box of malboro reds before stopping and looking back up at the girl.
"I've heard something and I just need to ask if it's true, sorry if I'm intruding but are you and Monty.. a thing?" She asked with a confused and puzzled expression on her face.
"Me and.. Monty? Hah! No, sorry to shatter that idea of yours, but no. Where did you hear it from?" The idea was such a shock to the brunette she erupted into a fit of laughter.
"Oh, just some boys in my year, they saw you and him together here a couple weeks ago?" She giggled before paying Carla and walking away.
"Looks like you've got some stalkers." Buggs piped up eventually with a smirk.
"They're in the year below, makes it even more creepier." She shuddered and laughed.
"Did Alice just ask if you and Monty were a thing?" A familiar voice says.
"Jesus, Adam, you scared the shit out of me!" Carla sighs a sigh of relief and clutches her chest dramatically like she was having a heart attack.
"Yeah, she did. Apparently some boys in her year saw them together." Buggs chortled.
"Bit stalkerish, seems you've got some fanboys, Carla." Adam joked and elbowed his best friend.
"I hope not, all the boys in the year below are feral to say the least." She rolled her eyes playfully.
"To be fair, someone would've chased them off by now." Buggs smirked and glanced to the far right side of the park at a perky ginger boy, also selling goods like Carla.
"Please, Monty couldn't hurt a fly." Carla laughed at Buggs' imagination.
"I don't know, he was pretty angry at Felix for what he did to you." Adam raised his eyebrows.
"Well, that's just because it was his girlfriend who Felix cheated with." Carla scoffed but still considered her friends conspiracy, maybe Monty didn't hate her back then as much as she thought?
"I wouldn't be too sure, he's still kind of protective of you now, he drove you back home last time you hung out just because it was 'getting dark' even though it was six pm." Buggs said.
"He drove you home?!" Adam said, his jaw now practically on the floor.
"Yeah? Why is that shocking?" Carla frowned in confusion.
"Carla. He. Drove. You. Home. To your house!!! No man who doesn't like you does that." Kid throws his arms up in the air and lets them fall angrily.
"Oh please, when are you gonna drop this idea of Monty liking me??" Carla groans.
"He's basically your husband at this point, and whenever Buggs finally asks Cindy out." Kid scoffs.
"Well, I'm meeting with her this week so hopefully that'll be soon, but Carla he definitely likes you, trust me." Buggs smiles.
"Kid, Monty is far from my husband, and why should I trust a smoker who's as high as a kite right now?" Carla crossed her arms.
"He's told me some things, man." Buggs shrugged.
"Like what?" She pressed for more answers.
"I can't do my buddy like that." Buggs rolled his eyes and giggled like a little kid.
"Last week your 'buddy' was making jokes about your dad leaving you." Carla didn't buy his reasoning for one second.
"That's what buddies do!" Buggs declared.
Carla rolled her eyes, there was no point arguing with a high Buggs, because half the time he doesn't make sense, and the other half he's away with the fairies, so Carla made her way over to her favourite pair of twins and sat in the middle of them.
"Billy, I love you dude, but it is so obvious when you're staring at something." Adam pity-smiles his best friend and gives him an encouraging pat on the shoulder.
"Huh? What did you say?" The pat seemed to break Billy out of his trance.
"Maybe if you spent less time staring intently at your boyfriends ass, you'd listen to what people have say to you." Lily scowled.
"I was not staring at his ass!" Billy whisper-shouted.
"Oh, you so were." Carla scoffed, wondering how Billy can easily deny what all his friends just saw with their own eyes.
"Hey Ted! Your boyfriend has a hugeee staring problem!" Buggs shouts to Ted, who's pretty close to him so it causes him to shudder and turn around.
"As long as he's staring at me and not others it's fine, and at least he's putting himself to good use." He laughs, fully turning round to face the group now.
"That's about the only thing he's good for." Lily says quietly, hoping Billy didn't hear.
"Well no, he's good at other things. Especially in b-"
"PG-13 THEODORE THERE'S A PENNY JUST A FEW FEET AWAY FROM YOU!!" Carla practically screams before slapping a hand over Ted's mouth.
"I'm going to pretend I didn't hear that, you're lucky my lasers are disabled at the moment, Theodore." Penny scowls.
"Ooooh full name, you're in trouble~" Buggs teases.
"Shut up. Anyway, don't you guys have a project to be doing?"
"Oh why did you remind me of that?" Carla groans and buries her head in her hands.
"We do, it's not long though, should get it done in a couple of hours." Lily shrugged.
"Might as well get it done now, you coming, Adam and Buggs?" Billy sighed and turned to his friends.
"As long as none of your parents are home so I can have a smoke," Buggs shrugs and agrees, "Adam?"
"Huh? Oh yeah, sure, I'll come." Adam's smile fades as soon as he looks up from his phone.
The squad begins to walk to Lily and Billy's home, with the twins leading in front, Ted and Penny in the middle continuing with their daisy chain business, and finally Carla, Adam, and Buggs practically dragging themselves to keep up with the others.
"You're unusually happy today." Buggs says, looking at the brunette male who's smiling widely whilst tapping quickly on his phone.
"Hm? Oh, it's nothing. Just in a good mood." Adam smiles.
"You're never in a good mood, who are you even messaging?" Carla tries to sneak a peak but Kid pulls away before she can get a good look at the name.
"No one! Honestly." Adam has never moved his phone away faster in his life, whoever he was messaging he was determined to keep it a secret.
Carla shrugged it off, he seemed adamant it was nothing so she dropped it for the time being, if it was that important there was no doubt it would be brought up again.
She started brainstorming ideas for this project, but her thoughts were clouded with.. other things. She tried to shake them away but nothing worked, she sighed and continued walking, just trying to stop thinking in general now.
Whatever the cause of her thoughts was, she was determined to make it stop, one way or another, even if that meant fulfilling them.
