XLII

The muttering in the hall was loud enough to overtake my thoughts and shoo them away.
The school smelled of overcooked burger patty and under-thawed French fries.
Probably today's lunch.
"Watch out! Sparkles are everywhere, pigtails. Wouldn't want you to have a tantrum," called a nearby group of immature boys.
My ex-friend, Emma, shared a secret with the whole school. Something you'd think wasn't fearful enough to be a secret.
Picturing it clearly, the day it happened formed in my imaginative mind.
Emma and I were walking to our next class when I told her.
I leaned in her ear like you'd've done.
The truth spilling from my abnormally large pie hole.
"I'm very immature for my age. Yet, so responsible when asked," Not a big deal right?
Maybe so, but sometimes, people don't like to be around me when I do act underage. It's just not normal.
~
I backed up against the locker of Ace Skript. The school's troublemaker.
I shook with fear but stared deeply in the bully's eyes, for as I was not going to show the wimpy die from inside of thy.
"Little piggy wants her milk, huh?" Brendon Mellar teased, his "faithful servants" making obnoxious piggy noises from behind him.
He sneered and raised his fist.
I closed my eyes tight and waited for the pain to strike my face, causing me to scream and sputter and roll into a nice, small, inhumane ball.
"You better back up, Junior," I heard a threatening voice beam in front of me. The person's body heat warming me deeply. I breathed heavily and waited until it was okay to open my eyes.
"L-listen big guy. I've got a- uh- brain tumor so don't p-p-pick on me!" Brendon said, stuttering on each apparent word.
"I'm pretty sure you need a brain for that," the figure snapped. Brendon's worker bees chuckled quietly but he was seething mad.
"You're not so scary, Detention Form," remarked Brendon, stepping forward. I slowly peeked my eyes open and saw the figure loom above me. Towering me, keeping me safe. He raised his sharp but unusually large fist and said through gritted teeth, "You're a fine kind who shouldn't belong here. Watch your step or you'll be needing teeth replacements for what'll happen with this menace," Clearly meaning his curled hand.
"Skript! Just what are you doing to these boys?" I heard Mrs. Dewal stomping down the corridor of the back half of the school.
The one in front of me bellowed a long sigh but continued to glare at Brendon and the monkeys.
"Watch yourself, rookies," He called.
Skript was just the name that made the bell in my head ring.
~
"-and he just stood there... it was really weird," I said over the phone to Ashton, my practical sister.
"Ace Skript? Really?" She said sarcastically.
"Yes! Dewal called his name loudly in the hall!" I kicked my pillow off my light grey covers as I heard Ash snigger.
"Stop lying. Tomorrow at school, hang around with me immediately at all times. We'll see if Ace really does anything." She said in a severely serious tone.
I ended the call and laid on my bed. Staring at the ceiling made me realize that time flies. Not legitimately, but, time zooms passed you like a boomerang but hits you amid the chest when you don't need it to.
I sighed and rolled over on my bed. All I thought about was the strange day I had today. No way in Tarnation did Ace Skript really stick up for me!
~
"You should really be careful," whispered Tristan.
We were walking through the almost empty halls, talking about the peculiar day I had had.
I chuckled.
"Of course, Tris. I totally know, but, why be scared if he stuck up for me?" I was utterly confused.
He looked down.
"I... I don't know, Lily, that seemed really odd. I mean, you were leaning on his locker right? Maybe he just needed-"
"He had art right then, meaning, he clearly slipped out of class to roam to some place," I said, quickly.
Loud footsteps around the corner made both Tristan and I freeze and huddle to a locker, acting like we were discussing something very important.
It was Ace!
"Act natural," Tris sneaked quietly, leaning closer. I punched his arm.
"This. Is. Not. A. Movie," I stuttered.
Ace looked at us unusually and began stomping our way.
"Hello Lilith," He nodded politely and grinned at Tris, "Found yourself a girlfriend, huh, funny bone?" His grin stretched across his small, dimpled face.
Tristan glared back.
"Tch. Jealous?"
At Tristan's very words, everything just...
Froze.
I watched as Ace's facial expression escalated into a look of sadness and disapproval.
"Serious?" He inquired.
I shook my head slowly and stepped closer.
"Thank you, for um, sticking up for me earlier. I really wouldn't've exactly, lived for one thing. You really did me a solid," I smiled but Ace looked at me funny. An eccentric formation crossed about him. Soon, I saw a remarkably beautiful smile back and he walked off, his swagger leading the best of him.
~
"Did he really?"
"Yes! It was so hilairious and-"
"We're not dating, Tris. Okay?" I blushed deeply as he looked goofily up at me.
"I know sis. I'm just trying to get 'im to head off and take care of 'imself," Tristan replied.
Ashton was giggling loudly at the lunch table.
Like yesterday, the lunch was very over cooked and undercooked. A great mixture of horrid things. I shoved it away from me and groaned.
"I'm for real guys,"
It was always us at the table. No one seemed to bother the 3 MuddyTears, our own thoughtfully random group name.
It, of course, consisted of a lot of guffawing, slapping, gossip and just plain out talking. For me, everything moved to quickly; for them, opposite. They say the school day's too long and boring and outright nerve wrecking.
Ashton pointed angrily at Tris as I looked right amid them.
Ace Skript was staring at our table.
He looked away sharply, catching my quick glimpse.
"Looking at your girl, Ruddy?" Provoked one of the boys. They clearly saw what I saw and noticed how he looked away so fearfully. I studied Tristan, then Ashton, then Ace.
Tristan was very overprotective, Ashton nosy, Ace mysterious. I new nothing about the guy, which frightened me but caused me to become very curious about this whole thing.

After lunch, Tris and I were digging through our worn out lockers when I felt a playful tug on my ponytail.
I gasped and turned to see Ace walking savagely down the hall with Mr. Gain, the principal.
He turned around to look and smirked flirtatiously. My stomach filled with a sharp yet familiar pain.
The same thing I felt after Tristan had asked me out last year!
During mid-finals, Tristan and I were study buddies. He and I had annual trips to the library but daily tasks from our classes. After mid-finals were over, I had found a note in my locker reading,

Lilith,
Meet me in room 394.
It's urgent and I really have to talk to you about this.

Love,
Tristan~

The love part made my heart flutter but I clutched it and ran for 394. There he was, hand behind his back and smiling awkwardly.
"Uh, Lily?" He stuttered.
I nodded, swallowed and worked my way forward. He swiped his hand from his back and presented Flowers. Beautiful poppies. My absolute favorite.
I froze as the heart-aching words itched from his mouth.
"I was, ahem, wondering if you'd like to... I dunno... go to the icecream parlor with me tonight? I hear there's a really magnificent sunset tonight!" And he just stopped as his eyes became very wet and moist and filled with salty tears.
I immediately hugged him around his neck and kissed his cheek roughly. He was my best friend but I thought we should've waited awhile. Take things...
Slow.
From then on, we became the best of friends.
But something was different.

1356 words. I'm so proud of myself. Definitely will continue this
(Unlike other stories of mine)

Anyways!
I hope it was good for a starter.
