I must have heard wrong. I was surely dreaming but after Padma tapped my shoulder I knew it was reality. I slowly got up and saw everyone staring at me as I walked up to the staff table; Draco was sitting at the Slytherin table with his mouth ajar and constantly looking at me. The only person who didn't seem angry with me was Padma because she was biting her lip, what she used to do when someone she cared about was in difficulty.
I headed towards the door where Krum and Fleur had gone where I found my self in a small room full of portraits of witches and wizards. "What is it?" Fleur asked "Do zey want us back in ze Hall?" I didn't know how to explain it to them so I just stood there. Like an idiot.
"Vere is the 'Ogwarts champion?" Krum suddenly said. Just then a clamoring of footsteps came and I turned around and saw Harry Potter coming behind me with a nervous face. "What happened?" I asked Harry. "Um, I got se--"
More footsteps filled the room and Ludo Bagman came rushing inside. "Extraordinary!" he muttered, squeezing Harry's arm. "Absolutely extraordinary! Gentlemen. . . lady. May I introduce - incredible though it may seem - the third and fourth Triwizard champions?" Fleur laughed sheepishly and said "Oh, vairy funny joke, Meester Bagman."
"Joke? No, no, not at all! Harry and Leo's name just came out of the Goblet of Fire!" "But evidently zair 'as been a mistake," Fleur aruged . "They cannot compete. They is too young." "Well. . . it is amazing," said Bagman "But, as you know, the age restriction was only imposed this year as an extra safety measure. And as her and his names' come out of the goblet.. . I mean, I don't think there can be any ducking out at this stage. . . . It's down in the rules, you're obliged. . . Harry and Leo will just have to do the best he --"
More footsteps. A group entered the room including Dumbledore, McGonagall, Mr. Crouch, Karkaroff, Madame Maxime and Severus Snape. "What is ze meaning of zis, Dumbly-dorr?" Madame Maxime asked. "I'd rather like to know that myself, Dumbledore," said Professor Karkaroff "Two Hogwarts champions? I don't remember anyone telling me the host school is allowed two champions - or have I not read the rules carefully enough?"
"C'est impossible," said Madame Maxime "Ogwarts cannot 'ave two champions. It is most injust." "We were under the impression that your Age Line would keep out younger contestants, Dumbledore," said Karkaroff "Otherwise, we would, of course, have brought along a wider selection of candidates from our own schools."
Dumbledore remained silent and came over to Harry and I. "Did you put your name into the Goblet of Fire, Harry?" he asked. "No" "Leo?" I shook my head, nervously. "Dumbly-dorr must 'ave made a mistake wiz ze line," said Madame Maxime. "It is possible, of course" Dumbledore replied shrugging. "Dumbledore, you know perfectly well you did not make a mistake!" said Professor McGonagall angrily. "Really, what nonsense! Harry could not have crossed the line himself, and as Professor Dumbledore believes that he did not persuade an older student to do it for him, I'm sure that should be good enough for everybody else!"
"Mr. Crouch.. . Mr. Bagman," said Karkaroff "you are our - er - objective judges. Surely you will agree that this is most irregular?" "We must follow the rules, and the rules state clearly that those people whose names come out of the Goblet of Fire are bound to compete in the tournament." "Harry, Leo, I suggest you go up to bed," said Dumbledore "I am sure Gryffindor and Ravenclaw are waiting to celebrate with you, and it would be a shame to deprive them of this excellent excuse to make a great deal of mess and noise."
I waved a hand and followed Harry out of the room. "So, what do we do now?" Harry asked nervously. The Great Hall was now empty as we walked through it. "We have to survive" I replied "And I'm not one for risks" He shrugged and we walked in silence. "I'll see you later, Harry" I said smiling and heading for the Ravenclaw tower.
As soon as the wooden door swung open, I was pulled into the common room by a huge crowd of students. "Leo! How did you manage to enter?!" "You should've told us!" Just then, I felt a hand tug me. I turned around and saw Padma holding my arm. "Come on, Leo" she said softly taking me up to the dormitory. "Man," I replied throwing myself onto my bed "Do you believe I put my name in myself, Pam?" "Of course not!" Padma replied hugging me "You may be a Ravenclaw but I know you wouldn't use your knowledge to enter the competition when it's against the rules! Anyway, get some sleep, Leo. You're going to be going through a lot tomorrow"
I got up early the next morning to avoid all the 'fan groups' and guess who I found outside the Great Hall? Draco Malfoy, with a very nasty grin. "Hullo, Leo" he said smiling. "What's the smile about?" I asked with a raised eyebrow. "Nothing..."
"Leo Malfoy!" I turned around and saw Cedric Diggory jogging over to me. "I'll catch up with you later, Draco" I said giving a hug to my brother "Good-bye". I left Draco at the entrance and walked over to Cedric. "Leo!" he said smiling "Wanna go for a walk?" "Sure...?" I replied curiously.
Cedric was one of my best friends at Hogwarts (after Padma, obviously) and we first met in my second year after an older student hexed me and Cedric stood up for me. "Leo Malfoy!" he suddenly said. "What?!" I replied back startled. "Don't say 'what'!" Cedric said smiling "How did you enter?" "Oh, please" I said my smile fading "Don't tell me you believe that I put my name in the Goblet!"
"Of course not, Leo. You're not a risk taker, that's all I know" Cedric said taking me out to the gardens near Hagrid's hut. "OMG! Leo Malfoy!" Cedric and I spun around and saw a bunch of second year Gryffindors staring at me. "C'mon, let's go somewhere else" I replied pulling him really close by to Hagrid's. "You'll be alright, Leo, right?" he asked.
I smiled and replied, "I really appreciate it that you care, Cedric and I can't promise you that but I can promise you that I'll try" He gave me a hug and put his hand in his pocket. "Oh, I brought you this".
Cedric took out a chocolate wand. "Yum!" I said licking my lips "Thanks, Ced" "Just be careful of the crowd, Leo otherwise you'll be alright" Cedric added winking "Oh, I will"
The day after Hallowe'en was like hell. Before Charms, Cho came running to me with tears in her eyes saying that she was sorry for believing Pansy's rumor. That's not all. During breakfast, a trio of three second-year Hufflepuffs came to me to sign their bags. And that was really embarrassing. Padma, next to me couldn't stop laughing and I had to shove a toast in her mouth to make her stop.
I saw Harry a few times around the castle and whenever I saw him he was surrounded by fans. Even classes got harder since Hallowe'en. Professor Flitwick told me to demonstrate every spell and during one Charms lesson, a third-year Gryffindor Colin Creevey came to fetch me for photos.
When I came out, Harry was there with Colin. "Oh, hello!" I said smiling at Harry. "Hey, Leo" he replied as we followed Colin to the classroom "What do they want photos for, Colin?" "The Daily Prophet, I think!" "Great" Harry murmured "More publicity". "It's amazing, isn't it, Leo? Isn't it, though? You being champion?"Colin asked me eagerly. "Yeah, kind of" I replied emerged in thoughts.
"Okay, we're here" Colin said halting in front of a classroom "Good luck, Leo and Harry!" I knocked on the door and entered. Fleur and Krum were already there so was Bagman and another woman whom I'd never seen before. "Ah, here they are! Champions number three and four! In you come, Leo and Harry, in you come...nothing to worry about, it's just the wand weighing ceremony, the rest of the judges will be here in a moment -" "Wand weighing?" Harry asked.
"We have to check that your wands are fully functional, no problems, you know,as they're your most important tools in the tasks ahead," said Bagman. "The expert's upstairs now with Dumbledore. And then there's going to be a little photo shoot. This is Rita Skeeter," he said pointing at the witch "She's doing a small piece on the tournament for the Daily Prophet" "I wonder if I could have a little word with Harry and Leo before we start?" she said "The youngest champions, you know. . . to add a bit of color? By the way, which one of you is older?" "Excuse me?" I asked confused. "Who's born first? When are your birthdays?" "31st July" Harry replied. "15th January" I said.
"Ooh!" Skeeter said clapping her hands together "Leo, come with me!" "Um, okay" I replied following her to a small corner. I was claustrophobic so I didn't really like it there. "Can we hurry up?" I said "I'm claustrophobic" Skeeter ignored me and said "You won't mind, Leo, if I use a Quick-Quotes Quill? It leaves me free to talk to you normally. .." "A what quill?"
She smiled at me and took out an acid green coloured quill and a piece of parchement which she stood the quill on and it stayed. "So, Leo... what made you decide to enter the Triwizard Tournament?" "I didn't ente--" My eyes were caught by the quill what was now writing:
"Ignore the quill. Come now, Leo, there's no need to be scared of getting into trouble. We all know you shouldn't really have entered at all. But don't worry about that. Our readers love a rebel." "How do you feel about the tasks ahead?" "Nervous" I looked back at the parchment which now said:
"You-Know-Who didn't help me!" I objected with rage. Just then a figure came over to us. "Professor Dumbledore!" I said relieved. "If you don't mind, Rita, Leo has to get her wand-weighing done" he said. "Of course, Dumbledore"
As fast I could, I rushed away from Skeeter and took a seat next to Harry. "How was your interview?" Harry asked me as I sat down. "Pleasantly horrible" I replied sarcastically. He raised his eyebrow in response as Dumbledore started speaking. "May I introduce Mr Ollivander? He will be checking your wands to ensure that they are in good condition before the Tournament". I looked around the room and I saw Garrick Ollivander sitting my the windowsill, unnoticed. "Mademoiselle Delacour, could we have you foward first, please?" he asked coming to the front. Fleur headed over to Ollivander who carefully took her wand.
"Yes" he said softly "nine and a half inches, inflexible, rose-wood, and containing.... dear me!" "An 'air from ze 'ead of a Veela" Fleur completed his sentence ""One of my grandmuzzer's". "Yes, yes I've never used Veela hair, of course" Ollivander replied "I find it makes for rather temperamental wands...however, to each his own, and if this suits you.."
He ran his fingers over Fleur's wand and then held it up and said "Orchedious!". A burst of flowers came out of the wand as he handed it back to its rightful owner. "Very well, very well, it's in fine working order," said Ollivander "Miss Malfoy, you next." Fleur polietly smiled at me as I went over to Mr. Ollivander.
"Ah, now, this is one of mine, isn't it?" Ollivander said excidetly as I handed over my wand. "Yes, sir" "Cherry wood and dragon heartstring, very powerful both of them are... 10¼ inches and rigid. Do you treat it well?" "I polish it once every week, sir" I replied smiling. Through the corner of my eye, I saw Harry rubbing his wand with his robe. He caught my eye and merely smiled. Ollivander made a stream of smoke rings go across the room with my wand and announced that it was in perfect condition.
"Mr. Krum, if you please". Krum got up and headed to Ollivander with a sulked face; "Hmm, this is a Gregorovitch creation, unless I'm much mistaken? A fine wand-maker, though the styling is never quite what I... however... Yes.. . hornbeam and dragon heartstring? Rather thicker than one usually sees. . . quite rigid. . . ten and a quarter inches. . . Avis!"
Krum's wand produced a bunch of tiny birds that flew out the open window and into the open lands. "Good," said Ollivander "Which leaves. . . Mr. Potter." Harry threw a 'wish-me-good-luck ' look and headed past Krum to Ollivander. "Aaaah, yes," Ollivander said with a misty look in his eyes "Yes, yes, yes. How well I remember." Though usually for Krum, Fleur and I, he'd say out loud the wand properties but he kept silently staring at Harry's wand; Harry, himself had a spaced out look and was staring at his wand as Ollivander kept turning it around.
After lots of time, Ollivander returned Harry's wand saying that it was fit for the tournament. "Thank you all," said Dumbledore, standing up "You may go back to your lessons now - or perhaps it would be quicker just to go down to dinner, as they are about to end -" Harry got up, ready to leave but unfortunately,
"Photos, Dumbledore, photos!" Bagman said happily "All the judges and champions, what do you think, Rita?" "Er - yes, let's do those first," said Skeeter awkwardly staring at Harry "And then perhaps some individual shots." The photographs took a very long time and when we were done, Harry and I were the first one to get out of the room. "Come on, dinner will end if we don't hurry up" Harry said as we rushed towards the Great Hall.
The Hall smelled greatly of food when we entered. Most people had gone back to their dormitories or Common Room but there were a few still eating their dinner; everyone turned their heads towards Harry and I when entered. I mouthed 'good-bye' to Harry and went towards the Ravenclaw table. For a really odd reason, Harry followed me to the Ravenclaw table and was about to sit down. "Hey, um, Harry" I said "You're a Gryffindor". He turned bright pink, muttered something that sounded a lot like 'sorry' and hustled over to the Gryffindor table. I took a seat next to Adidas who was finished with her food and instead was reading a novel titled 'Quidditch Through The Ages'. "Adidas," I asked "Where's Padma?"
"Oh, Padma went up to the dorm" she replied "Said she had something important to do" I nodded and ate the rest of my food in silence. Once done, I headed to the tower where I was surrounded by a bunch of Ravenclaws who were showering me with blue and bronze streamers and it took me at least half an hour to get by the crowd and head up to the dormitory.
When I reached the dorm, Padma who was lying causally on her bed laughed at my state. "Man, Leo! Whatever happened?" "Fan crowd" I replied sitting on my bed and trying to take the streamers out of my hair. "By the way," Padma added pointing on my side table "you've got mail". "Thanks"
I picked up the envelope to see 'Leo Narcissa Malfoy' written in sapphire blue ink on the front in a delicate handwriting which I recognized to be my mother's. I took out the letter and read it silently:
I chuckled softly when I read the P.S. but I knew that overall my mum and dad were the biggest supporters (including my brother, obviously). "I'll reply to you in the morning" I said softly to the letter, which I know is super weird, set it on my side desk, changed into my nightdress and fell fats asleep as soon as I hit the pillows.
Tomorrow was another day full of fame and confusion. The second day of me being champion.
↠ Yass! The end's finally here. (2757 words including 'yass' 'the' 'end's' 'finally' 'here'💙) So, butterbeerxbadger asked me for my fonts list in the previous chapter so this is for you, Lia! ↞
↠ Here are only a few of them. I download them all mostly from dafont.com and apply them on my covers using the app, Phonto. My favourites personally are Luna and Lemon/Milk because they're both really bold and standard and these two I use the most! I used Luna in this story's cover and the other I can't recognize (sorry!) Anyway, hope you enjoyed this chapter and don't forget to vote and comment..... now, I sound like a YouTuber😂 See you in the next chapter!↞
