Prologue

A Christmas wedding, what is more exciting then that? It would be perfect just a week before Christmas, beautiful lights, perfect cake, family there and the love of your life.

Yeah that wasn't the case for Joshua Langston, the man was dressed in his suit, his hair fixed nicely and he was just waiting now for his fiancée Chandler Diaz to show. The crowd of family and friends idly talking amongst themselves.

As Josh's eyes roamed the crowd he wished his mother was in it to give him some reassurance but she couldn't make the trip. So he stood alone but held himself well as he rubbed his hands together with a nervousness that was starting to root in him.

Thirty minutes has passed by and still no sign of Chandler, the man seeming to just vanish into thin air as no one was able to reach him. Jessie, a culinary school friend of Josh's pacing as she tried to call him. Yet each time it went to Chandler's voicemail.

The whole wedding was just a whole reminder of the approaching holiday, one that Josh and Chandler shared a profound love for, yet now as Josh looked at the Christmas like decorations he didn't feel the joy he used to.

The joyful holiday slowly losing its magic with each second that ticked by. The man taking a shaky breath as he sat down on the stairs of the altar, ignoring the looked of pity that were casted in his direction,he didn't want to met the eyes of Chandler's family who sat in the front row.

Jessie walked over, sitting down beside him. Her eyes soft as she gently reached over and took his hand. "Maybe...it's time to go." She suggested in a gentle tone as she rubbed the back of his hand with her thumb.

"No...no...hes going to show up.. Chandler's always late." Josh said with a forced smile crossing his face as he thought back to all the teasing conversations that stemmed from Chandler showing up late though he did mean well.

Simple things would remind him of Chandler and it was growing frustrating the more he waited for him to show up. He loved Chandler and he could have sworn that love was returned and not wasted in vain.

"Of course he is." Jessie said sadly as she rested her head against his shoulder as she tried to provide comfort and some hope to this situation.

Now a hour has come and gone, the hope and warmth in the building fading as the realization that Chandler wasn't showing up started to sink in.

With a heavy sigh Josh got to his feet, his sad brown eyes looking out at those who stayed to share in his hope that Chandler would arrive. "I guess he isn't coming. You are all welcome to stay and enjoy the food and DJ as everything has been paid for already and there is no point in wasting it." He said as he looked out at them.

Some whispers breaking out along the chairs. Josh's eyes squeezing closed as he blocked out the sound. Without saying another word to anyone in there he started out the doors. Not pausing for a moment as Jessie called after him.

Josh was driving down the road, past Christmas lights and decorating, they no longer seemed beautiful to him. A emptyness in his gut as he teared up. Three years for nothing, three years to be left on the day that was supposed to be magical and amazing.

He arrived home and was already undoing the bowtie as he walked up the stairs to his door, unlocking it and walking in. With a soft anger in his eyes, a burning in his heart he walked into his room.

Gathering up anything that has to do with Chandler and throwing it all into a bag. He walked outside and threw the bag into the yard. He pulled out his phone. "you're stuff is in the yard come get it" he texted before blocking the number.

Josh walked into the kitchen, grabbing a glass and a bottle of bourbon and honestly he had no use for the glass as he would end up polishing off the bottle. A sorrowful ending to a sorrowful day.

The next morning he woke up with a headache as well as heartache, glancing outside he saw that the bag was still on the lawn. He glanced towards his phone to see ten missed calls, one being from his mom.

He picked up the phone and listened to the voicemail of her, saying how sorry she was that she couldn't make it to the wedding and how she hoped that they would come by for Christmas this year since he hasn't been home since he left for culinary school.

Josh sat there for a moment before deciding. Standing up, ignoring how shitty he felt after drinking so much and started packing his bags. He didn't have much here besides his restaurant now so he would go home for Christmas.

He honestly missed his mom as well as the friends he used to have there, some he doubted he would see again as like him people tend to move away.

Christmas back in his hometown with the potential of snow.

Maybe this is what he would need to heal his broken heart to reconnect with who he once was as well as those who used to know him and care for him.

Who knows maybe he would get a second chance at love as well as finding the Christmas spirit. Josh dialed his mom's phone number. "Hey ma." He spoke with a new smile crossing his face upon hearing the voice of the older woman. "Yeah, I miss you too." He chuckled softly at how happy she seemed to be talking with him. "I just called to tell you something." He started as he finished zipping up the duffle bag be had in front of him.

"I'm coming home for Christmas."
