Chapter 2
Winter wonderland
For the first time in years Joshua slept in, he was once again curled up in his childhood room and sound asleep. He was at some sort of peace in the world despite all that has happened and it all started by returning home.
Just like his childhood he was awoken very suddenly by a weight appearing on top of him. "Wake up Josh!" Gabby said with a laugh as he opened his eyes. He couldn't help but smile at her antics that's when he felt a smaller person jump on top on him as well. He looked over and there was Calypso, the young girl smiling happily at him.
"Wake up." The little girl shook him happily as he sat up with a yawn. "I'm awake." He chuckled, he liked the fact that his best friend's child accepted him so easily. Her small hand latched onto his. "Grandma Megan made breakfast and it's snowing!" She squealed in delight as she dragged him from the bed.
Josh's sorrows vanished at the liveliness of being home and his friend and her daughter. He smiled widely as he followed her down the stairs towards the kitchen. Gabby following behind the two with a wide smile on her face.
Megan was who practically raised Gabby once her parents gave up on her. She was always there for the girl and was her only family as far as Gabrielle was concerned.
"Good morning." Megan smiled happily at her soon as she just looked at him for a moment, happy to have him home once again. "Morning mom." Josh smiled at the older woman, placing a kiss to her forehead.
Gabby helped set the table, she kept glancing towards her friend. She couldn't believe that he was here again, after all of this time.
Breakfast felt something straight out of a Hallmark movie, the warmth and laughter that filled the house warmed the hearts of the adults that were there.
Megan was going to be watching Calypso while Gabby and Josh got out to Town, going to shops for Christmas as well as running errands for Megan for the winter festival.
Gabby and Josh where walking down town. Josh's eyes scanning all the new shops as they carried bags full of Christmas gifts as well as supplies. "So much has changed." He said as he finally looked back towards Gabby. "Yeah, three years can do that." She gave a hint of a smile on her face.
A small wave of sadness and a hint of guilt washed over josh as he glanced towards her. "I'm sorry for leaving so suddenly." He felt like the apology was long over due. Gabby looked over with wide eyes. "I didn't mean it like that!" She said quickly, she didn't want him to think she was upset with him.
"Hey Gabs." A voice caught both of their attention. Dazzling dark brown eyes met theirs as the man smiled, running a hand through his already tousled brown hair.
Gabby flashed her friend a smile. "Hey Kar, this is my best friend from high school, Josh." She introduced with a smile crossing her face.
"Ah the one I've heard so much about, nice to meet you Josh. I'm Kareem." He introduced himself as the two men shook hands.
"I was wondering if you would be free to help with a shoot Gabs, but if you are busy that's alright." He flashed her a charming smile.
Gabrielle was about to answer when Josh looked at her. "If you'd like to go you can, I am supposed to meet mom soon anyway to help set up and I can keep Calypso busy helping out." He offered her, seeing the conflict in her eyes as she chewed on her lip to decide.
"Okay, fine, let's go." Gabby said with a soft smile as she looked towards Kareem, the man giving a smile as well. "Wonderful!"
Josh watched as his friend walked away with Kareem before he focused his walk back in the direction of home, pulling the jacket tighter as he held the bags close. Snow still drifting lazily from the sky in giant flakes.
Once he arrived home he placed the bags down where they go, putting up the groceries. Megan coming around the corner with Calypso chasing after so she wasn't left behind, the young girl looked confused and sad when she didn't see her mom return with him. "Where's mommy?" She asked turning her big eyes up towards him.
"Your mommy is gonna to met us at the park, we are setting up for the festival and I asked if you could help me. So will you?" He asked her with a smile as he crouched down to be at eye level with her. "Yes!" She said excitedly as the three got ready to go and work on the set up.
Would your oc help with the winter festival? If yes what- (examples are set up, having a booth, selling food, ECT)
