Chapter 1
Welcome home son
Joshua had packed up and left for the airport, he was excited about going home and leaving the place he was behind. He hoped that this would be a chance to get a fresh clean start after pouring himself into a relationship that wasn't even reciprocated.
The flight was long and boring as he mostly rested for the few hours. Once he landed he found a place to rent a car. As he drove towards his mom's house he kept glancing around at everything, the small town woodsy charm that he loved so much, now surrounding him once again.
Christmas lights twinkling in the night as snow started to drift lazily from the sky. He reeled the window down, the faint hint of pine trees in the air as he took a deep breath, letting it out with a sigh. "I'm home." He whispered to himself as he finally reached downtown. The shops looked beautiful in the festive decorations that were put up.
The downtown area gave way to small roads leading to residential houses, nothing grande like he saw in California but it was the familiar, quaint, homey feeling he remembered as he turned down the road that lead to the home he grew up in.
His mom left the porch light on as he pulled up, putting the car in park his eyes flickered towards the clock, only 8. Joshua got out of the car, going to the back and grabbing his bags. "Hey stranger." A soft female voice came from behind him.
Joshua turned around and a smile crossed his face. "Gabs?" He asked with a happy gone in his voice. The woman behind him was grinning, her dark brown hair pulled back. "The one and only baby." She laughed as the two met for a hug, Joshua placing his bags down to hold onto his oldest childhood friend.
The two knew each other for years, always had each other's backs. Joshua felt some peace as he hugged her, for a moment feeling like he was back in highschool and not dealing with the hurt that Chandler has caused him.
Joshua and Gabby started walking towards the door. He listened to Gabrielle as she talked about her photography career as he just told her about his restaurant.
The door opened before the two even reached it, the smell of fresh baked gingerbread cookies. "Mommy!" A small girl rushed pasted Joshua's legs and launched herself into Gabrielle's arms. The woman laughing as she held her daughter.
Joshua looked towards her stunned. "Mommy?" He questioned as he glanced towards the little girl. Gabby's lips curved up in a teasing smirk. "Not to you, keep dreaming pretty boy." She teased him, watching him roll his eyes with a smile.
"Nice to see nothing has changed." Megan, Joshua's mother, said from the doorway at how the two seemed to shift back easily to their teasing manner. "That you so much Mrs. Langston." Gabby smiled at her.
"Of course dear, you know I will watch her whenever you need." The older woman said happily as she pulled Joshua into a hug. "Calypso this is Joshua, he's mommy's friend from highschool and Gran Meg's son." Gabby told the small girl.
Calypso smiled at him. "Hi." She spoke so sweetly making Joshua smile at her. "Hey, it's nice to meet you Calypso." He thought that the little girl was adorable but he was still shocked that Gabby had a kid.
This would definitely be a interesting time as he would be learning about the new lives of his old friends. He watched as the woman and child walked away towards the car that was parked on the side of the road.
Joshua looked towards his mom who was smiling up at him. The two hugged again as she patted his back in a motherly as well as comforting manner.
"I have missed you." She said as she held onto him. It's been years since she has seen her son and she wished that he was returning in better circumstances. She felt a hatred towards Chandler Diaz even though she had met him once.
The two went inside the house, Megan had a nice home cooked meal set out on the table, a smile crossing Joshua's face as it saw it. "I'm sure that it doesn't compare to what you make honey but I did the best I can." The older woman said with a soft smile displaying.
Joshua kissed her cheek softly. "this is amazing mom, thank you so much." He appreciated the effort that she put in and he was glad to have a home cooked meal from his mom again.
The two talked as they ate. They smiled and laughed and shared the events that happened in their lives and on Megan's side she told him events of the town and what news has been going on.
He learned that the Winter Festival was coming up within the next few days and that Megan would be helping set things out. So Joshua decided that over the span of being there he would help out in anyway that he can as well as with the winter festival.
Plus it would be a good way to reconnect with those from his past.
Short but really lacking motivation for this one
