It's happening on the beach. She and I are sitting there as I suddenly feel it.

"What time is it?" I ask.

"Nine fifty-two." She replies after a quick look at her phone. "Why?"

I fall back to just lay there.

"Because I think it's ending. I'm sorry." My voice breaks at the last sentence.

"What!?" Her head spins towards me, her long hair which I deeply envy her for flying around her head.

"I'm dying."

"No. No, you can do it-"

"Stop it. I was going to die anyway."

The world gets blurry.

Pain, but I don't make a noise.

Just a quiet sigh.

A ragged breath.

She grabs my hand tightly.

"Can you hear me? I'm calling the ambulance. Okay? Say something!"

My breaths are getting even more ragged.

Strange voices.

"Is she okay?"

"Hello, do you need help?"

"STOP STARING AND CALL A FUCKING AMBULANCE!"

She's panicking. That's bad.

"I..."

I see her coming closer through my blurry vision.

"Did you say something?"

"I l..."

"What?"

"I love you, Maddy."

This sudden confession leaves her paralysed for a second, then she smiles. I can't see it, but I feel it.

"I love you too, Jayden."

I smile happily through all the pain.

Then I fade.

Maddy's cry.

Sirens.

Blue lights.

But it's too late anyway.
