Chapter 12
Fumn wasn't given a chance to take the risk because two days after, Ozo started distancing himself away from her. Even as Fumn went downstairs to fetch the water she'd use in having her bath, Ozo never acknowledged her presence.
He merely stole glances at her when he thought she wasn't looking. Fumn didn't think much of his rather dull attitude. After all, she wasn't committed from the onset.
Fumn hurriedly bathed, dressed and was about rushing off to school when she caught Ozo openly flirting with one of their neighbors who wore a tank top and bum shorts which showcased her clear radiant skin.
Fumn hissed. Maybe he was thinking as he had withdrawn himself away from her, she was going to take the lead and chase after him. But she was the least bit bothered about the whole scenario.
She flagged down a taxi outside the lodge and clambered in. She couldn't forget the look of sheer longing on Ozo's face as she threw him a glance.

"Ooh my God. This lecturer wants to kill us with assignments o," Fumn complained to her friends; Jessica, Favour, and Micah. Micah stroked his bushy beard as he flipped through page after page of organic agriculture notes.
"I swear," Favour confirmed patting her matted hair. "The man is just so hyper about everything. Why is he telling us to culture maize seeds when he gave us something similar last week?"
Jessica chewed on her munch it snack as she peered outside the window, her long black eyelash batting repeatedly. The class was partially rowdy. After having their first lecture for the day (AGR 301), some students dispersed to their various head of department offices to sort out whatever issues they had with their manual course registration.
Some hung around their friend in groups either at the general canteen or in the classroom while the others studied their books silently. Fumn had been trying to read a topic on green farming for the past hour but nothing was entering her block head.
She looked to Favour for help but she laughed loudly, attracting attention to the table they were seated.
"It's only God that will help you in this test today. Because me, I will not show you shikina." Favour crossed her legs acting like a boss lady. Favour was light skinned, short, petite with a chubby face and medium sized boobs that was proportional to her ass.
Favour had an assertive character that Fumn admired and the both had bonded from the first day they met during their clearance. The sun had been shining brightly beating down on Fumn who was standing in a long queue waiting for her name to be called so she would go into the office. Her legs were weary and sweat dripped down the sides of her heavily made up face.
When she finally sat down on one of the empty plastic chairs to rest a while, she turned and her gaze collided with Favour's honey brown eyes. They both smiled knowingly and shyly faced the other direction.
As if fate destined it, they were both called at the time since they were in crop and soil science department. They linked hands together as they walked down the long hallway and that was how their new found friendship began.
Jessica was much more subtle in her appearance and manner of approach. Fumn met her in a restaurant eating a plate of jollof rice quietly with a can of Pepsi by the side. Fumn was soon to know that she had a weird obsession with the soft drink. Fumn bought her meal and was scanning the busy environment for an empty seat.
The only spare one was opposite Jessica. Fumn slid into the seat, placing her food on the table and waved a shy Jessica whose concentration was focused on her lighted screen. Jessica smiled sunnily at Fumn as she returned her greetings.
After Fumn volunteered to pay for her food, they left the bustling restaurant and followed different directions to their lecture hall. They both landed in the same class but were in separate departments. Jessica with a look of surprise on her face took a seat beside Fumn and they chatted throughout their lectures.
Fumn later exchanged numbers with Jessica and the rest was history.
"Jessie, are you watching your husband outside the window?" Favour joked. Fumn snickered and slapped her playfully on the shoulder.
"If you don't read too, we will all fail o. Because I am not ready to crack my head for four people," Fumn said.
Jessica smirked. "I am busy trying to cram something and y'all are disturbing me. It's like I will relocate." She packed up her books and excused herself. But Favour wasn't allowing her go anywhere.
"Go and sit ejor. You know that all of us have to be together for the test ni. If we perish, we perish." Micah laughed loudly and slammed his book on the wooden desk.
"Oooh please, I am done with this shit." He yawned and got up to stretch. "Let this test do and come biko, I know I will ace it."
"When you didn't study?" Fumn asked eyeing his bulky frame. "That your muscles can't save you from jittering in the hall hehe."
Micah rolled his shoulders. "We'll see about that." Those were his parting words. Favour was trying to tickle Jessica to keep her from leaving. It seemed to be working because she was giggling uncontrollably.
"Okay guys, that's enough," Fumn stated. "Mr Ogun's questions are not going to be smiling at us o."
Fumn pushed Jessica to her position. "Now stay there and read. I won't disturb again."
Jessica huffed and took out her books once again. "We better ace this test."
After an exhausting day at school, Fumn placed a call through to her mother as she headed to the bus park alone. Her friends didn't stay till the end of lectures, they claimed that they were tired and went home. She was the loyal one who decided to stay behind.
"Hello mummy, good evening," Fumn greeted.
"Good evening my dear. I was beginning to think you were ghosting me since you refused to pick my calls."
"No ma, it's not like that," Fumn searched for words to say to justify her actions. "School work is just occupying me."
Her mother sighed. "Is it not the same school that I and your dad went to? Stop giving excuses my dear."
"No mummy, I am not," Fumn defended herself giving way for the mother and daughter banter continue. Fumn's mum went from arguing that she rarely made out time to hear from her family to keeping herself holy. She advised that Fumn desist from boys as they were set in her path to ruin her future.
Fumn's mum wasn't the stringent type. She always said her piece of mind and stepped back for her daughters to make the decision that they thought was right for them. She didn't enforce rules or conform them to a particular way of dressing. Fumn and Veekie were free to do what they liked as far as it didn't go against the biblical word.
Fumn nodded respectfully at what her mum was saying until she finally concluded her ted talk.
"Mummy is daddy around? I want to holla him."
"For more money abi?" Her mum asked suspicion lacing her tone. "Children of nowadays will not get sense because everything has been laid on a platter of gold for them."
"Don't say that na," Fumn pleaded. "I am trying to hustle some money for the fees that dad refused to pay."
"Nna, do those charges really exist? Or you are using it to extort unnecessary money!"
Fumn blew out a frustrated breath. She was tired of the back and forth argument for her peculiar fees. She was already handling it, wasn't she?
Fumn dismissed the call just as a car stopped in front of her. Michael stuck his head out of his Benz tinted window flashing Fumn his billion dollar smile.
"Care for a ride?"
Fumn's brows rose in distrust but because her legs were about to give way underneath her, she slid into the rich leather seats that reeked of money.
"How did you know I would be walking down this road?" Fumn asked curiously before buckling her seatbelt. "Were you stalking me?" She added as an afterthought.
Michael snorted at Fumn's boldness. "Don't flatter yourself. I was just by the faculty to do a few clearance as regards my youth service."
Michael eyed Fumn for a brief moment before turning his attention back to the road.
"You studied agriculture?" Fumn quizzed oddly surprised that the quiet Priscilla had enough balls to date a good bad boy like Michael.
"I should be asking you that. Students are not allowed to work in a club. What kind of string did you pull?" Michael spoke through gritted teeth.
Fumnaya was dumbfounded. How had he found out?
