Voodoo Doll

Freshman Ashton loves sophomore Luke, but Luke doesn't feel the same way back. Luke pretty much just takes advantage of Ashton, since he knows the younger boy is head over heels in love with him. Ashton knows Luke won't ever love him back, but Ashton still loves him with all his heart.
One day, Ashton finds a voodoo doll that looks a lot like Luke at an old antique shop, and suddenly the tables have turned.

-------------------------------------------

Luke stormed up to Ashton and slammed the younger boy's locker shut.

He shoved Ashton against the lockers and put his hands on either side of his head, trapping him.

Luke glared down at him. "Okay freshman, tell me where you're hiding your voodoo doll!"

Ashton blinked up at him innocently. "What are you talking about?"

"Don't play dumb! You're doing something, I know you are!" He glared. "I don't even like you, so explain how I sang you a song at your window last night."

"I have no idea what you are referring too." Ashton smirked. "Maybe you're finally realizing you love me."

Luke rolled his eyes. "Will you please stop loving me to death?"

Ashton grinned evilly up at him. "Maybe I'll stop when you admit you like me." He winked and ducked under Luke's arms, walking away with all his new found sass.

(A few weeks earlier)

Ashton sat down at the lunch table with Calum.

He made brief eye contact with Luke before returning his gaze to his tray.

"Hey Cal, you bomb that science quiz too?" Luke asked. "Mikey told me he aced it but I don't believe him."

"I totally bombed it, he's a liar." They laughed.

Ashton risked another glance up at Luke, admiring how good the older blonde boy looked today.

"See something you like cutie?" Luke teased and Ashton realized he was caught.

He smiled back. "Yeah, mind if date you now?"

Luke chuckled and popped a chip in his mouth. "Not on your life freshman."

Ashton smiled but on the inside he was embarrassed and heartbroken.

He loved Luke, but the sophomore only viewed him as a younger friend. Hardly a friend, just one of Calum's friends.

He and Calum were captains of the football team, and that was the only reason Luke talked to an underclassmen.

Luke knew Ashton liked him but he preferred to have the younger boy do his homework rather than to kiss him.

Ashton knew Luke was only using him to do his schoolwork but he didn't really mind. As long as he was around Luke, he was happy. Except for moments like these, when he remembered Luke didn't actually like him.

The rest of the football team and Michael joined them then.

"Hey losers, ready for practice after school today?" Another guy from the team asked.

"I can't make it today." Calum said.

"Why not?" Luke asked. "You've skipped the first two practices already!"

Calum shrugged. "Boohoo, I'm shopping with Ashton today."

Luke looked over at Ashton and Ashton got the feeling Luke liked him a little bit less now.

Thanks Calum.

"Whatever, go shop with your boyfriend." Luke rolled his eyes and Calum threw a chip at him.

"He's more like yours! He won't do my homework to save his life." Calum complained.

Luke grinned and ate the chip. "What can I say, I'm just irresistible."

Ashton blushed and looked at the floor. "I just don't mind the extra work is all."

Calum rolled his eyes. "Ash stop letting him take advantage of you! Get some self respect and confidence and get over him!"

"Don't listen to him." Luke leaned forward and put his hand over Ashton's. He grinned at the younger boy. "I happen to really like the work you do for me, way better than anything I could ever do."

Ashton blushed and smiled.

Calum rolled his eyes and tossed all his chips at Luke. "Cut it out Luke."

Luke pulled back and winked at Ashton, making butterflies erupt in his stomach, before returning to the conversation with the rest of his team.

-

Ashton waited for Calum at his locker after school.

The Kiwi boy came up to him and dialed his combination, taking out his back pack.

They started walking as they talked about Luke.

Well, Ashton talked. Calum just rolled his eyes and listened.

"-and then he held my hand! Like, thats got to count for something right? But you didnt exactly help me out when you said we were going shopping but its cool, I can forgive you. Hey look at that! Lets go in that store!" He grabbed Calums hand and pulled him into an old rundown looking dusty shop. It was very old, full of strange items.

"What is this place?" Calum asked, looking up and down the aisles.

"Dunno, some antique place?" Ashton walked to the very back of the store. "Haha, look Cal! Voodoo dolls." He bent down in front of an old chest, where dozens of tiny dolls were in.

"Hey, that one looks like my English teacher...and that one looks like that cop that took my license away!" Ashton exclaimed.

Calum started rummaging through the dolls. "There must be a doll for everyone in town!"

"Are these real?" Ashton questioned, studying a doll closely.

The lid of the chest slammed down, nearly cutting off Ashton's fingers.

An old man glared down at them. "Dolls not for sale."

"But, why not? They're just cute little stuffed dolls!" Ashton protested. "I'll pay you double for one. Please, I want one!"

The man shook his head and walked away, leaning heavily on his cane.

"Dolls not for sale. Were put out here because no more room in attic. Not selling."

"Why not?" Ashton followed the man while Calum sat down on the chest. "They're not real right? So why can't you just sell them?"

"Because you have evil intentions inside." The man snapped. "Get out of store."

Ashton stared at him. "I do not have evil intentions!"

"You lie."

"I lie not- I mean, no!"

"Whatever Ashton, let's just go." Calum interrupted suddenly.

Ashton frowned at him. "But Cal-"

Calum grabbed Ashton and dragged him out of the store. "But nothing."

When they were a few blocks away, Calum suddenly let go of a pouting Ashton, making him fall to the ground.

"Ow, what the hell?" Ashton glared, picking himself up.

"Shut up and take this." Calum shoved a doll into Ashton.

Ashton took it with wide eyes. "Calum, did you steal this?"

"I left some money in the chest. Consider this as a make up for when I forgot to get you a present for your birthday last year."

Ashton studied the doll closely. "This one looks familiar."

Calum shrugged as they started walking. "I just grabbed a random one. Now let's hope that man doesn't take inventory."

-

Ashton brought the doll to school the next day, keeping it in his backpack which he brought to all his classes. (idk some schools do this its weird)

"Ashton!" Calum said with wide eyes as he sat beside his friend the next day. "Why did you bring that doll here?"

"I wanna know who it is! If there really is one for everyone in town, then I wanna know who I have." Ashton whispered, picking up the small doll. "He looks familiar, but different in doll form. I don't know who it is."

"Well if it's me, no throwing me off a cliff." Calum rolled his eyes. "Pretending voodoo actually works anyway."

Ashton huffed. "It's not you, the doll has blonde hair."

Calum nudged him. "You know who else has blonde hair...."

Ashton's eyes widened and he turned around, where Luke was goofing off in the back of the class with Mikey.

"Oh my God Cal, what if it actually is him?!"

Ashton quickly grabbed his pencil and sharpened it in the sharpener, making it...well, sharp.

Then he walked back to his seat and grabbed the doll.

"What are you doing?" Calum asked as he watched.

"Poking him in the butt to see if he feels anything." Ashton whispered, doing exactly that.

"Hey!" Luke jumped out of his seat, hands covering his bum. "What the fuck was that for Mikey?!"

"I didn't do anything!" A bewildered Mikey said.

Ashton burst out laughing and Calum put his head on the desk. "Of all the dolls to grab..."

Ashton placed the Luke doll back in his backpack and grinned.

"This is going to be a fun day."

-

Luke grabbed his things when the bell rang, and headed out the door.

Suddenly he stopped in confusion and Ashton came up beside him. The younger boy beamed up at him. "Hey Luke, wanna walk me to my next class?"

"N-sure." Luke grabbed his hand and led him down the hallway, wondering what he was doing, his class was the other way.

Ashton chatted happily beside him, but Luke wasn't paying attention, to focused on why he couldn't control his legs, or hand, which was currently refusing to let go of Ashton.

Finally Ashton stopped in front of a science room. "Thanks Luke! See you at lunch!" He smiled and walked inside.

As soon as he let go of Luke's hand, the older boy blinked and took notice of his surroundings. The bell rang and he groaned, knowing he would be late now.

He ran down the hallways with legs that were finally listening to him.

He snuck into his room and sat in his seat, wondering what the hell just happened.

-

"It was awesome Cal," Ashton gushed as they sat down at lunch later on. "He walked me to my class and held my hand! It was like a dream come true!"

Calum looked at him. "I don't know Ash, I'm glad you got a way to get back at him, but if this stuff actually works, you shouldn't abuse it. You made him late to class."

Ashton waved him off. "So what, he's usually late anyways."

Calum huffed. "I'm just saying, don't do something you'll regret."

But Ashton was focusing on the blonde hottie that just sat down at their table to listen.

"Hey Calum...Ashton." Luke said, giving him a look.

Ashton smiled at him. "Hi Luke. Thanks for walking me to class."

Luke leaned forward. "Yeah, about that. Don't...don't like...do, what ever you did, again, okay?"

Ashton cocked his head. "What are you talking about?"

Luke stared at him. "Nothing, nevermind. Let's just forget about it okay?"

Ashton shrugged. "If you say so." He looked at the ground and smiled when Luke wasnt looking.

-

Ashton tossed the Luke doll up in the air and caught it as he walked home with Calum after school.

"Stop that." Calum said. "Youre probably making him sick."

"Am not, at least I haven't dropped him." Ashton said, throwing the doll up again. "Hey Calum, catch! "

Calum dropped his backpack to catch the small doll. "Ashton! Careful! "

Ashton laughed and took the doll back. "Chill Cal, I wouldn't hurt him on purpose or anything. Im just having a little fun."

Calum sighed. "How long are you going to mess with that doll?"

"Until Luke loves me."

-

Later that night, Ashton sat at his desk, doing his and Luke's homework. He sighed and took a break.

He got up and pulled the Luke doll out. He sat on his bed and studied the doll.

He suddenly got an idea and grinned.

"I've always liked to listen to music while I work."

-

Luke got out of bed and grabbed his guitar. He walked out his door and down the sidewalk. He looked down. He was barefoot. And shirtless.

He was getting ready for bed and then he suddenly he wasnt. Now he was walking past unfamiliar houses.

He stopped in front of one and a window opened.

Ashton poked his head out and smiled at him.

"Hi Luke! Will you sing me a song?"

Luke sat on the grass and pulled out his guitar. "You like perfection, some kind of holiday. You got me thinkin, that we could run away." He sang on the grass while Ashton watched happily from above.

"Dont stop, stop what you're doing, 'cause you know that, you know that I like it!" Ashton sang towards the end of the song.

Luke finished and looked up. "Um, what am I doing out here?"

"I don't know, wanna come in?" Ashton called out.

Luke stood up. "What the- where's my shirt and shoes?! How did I get here?"

Ashton hid his smile at Luke's reaction. "Since you're here, wanna take your homework back? Its due tomorrow."

Ashton ducked back in and threw the papers out the window. "Its done, you're welcome!" He shut the window.

The next day at school, Ashton walked to his class after his encounter with Luke.

Luke was catching on that something was up, Ashton knew he had to be more careful.

He thought about what Calum had said. Although he loved messing with Luke, he loved being with Luke more. He decided the doll had to be put away in a safe place.

Besides, he thought with a grin, he could always take the doll back out whenever he felt like it.

-

Ashton placed the doll in his moms old jewelry box and hid the box on the top shelf of his closet.

He pulled out his phone and texted Mikey, asking him what he and Luke were up too.

Shopping. Was the reply.

Michael put his phone away and walked into an old looking store with Luke.

"I didnt know this shop was here." Luke said, looking at all the old antique items.

"Me neither. Hey Luke, whats in this chest? "

Luke helped his friend open the chest, revealing dozens of tiny plush dolls.

"What are these?" Luke asked, picking up one.

"The sign says Voodoo Dolls." Mikey said, rummaging through the chest. "Hey, think Im in here?"

Luke studied his doll closely. "No, but Ashton is."

He grinned and held up the doll. "Two can play at this game freshman."
