ꗃ﹕❜Title: 10/10

The title of the book is so beautiful and at first I was sceptical that it would follow the premise of revolutionary France but I was pleasantly proven wrong in the first two chapters. I believe that the author knew what they were doing when they chose this title and when I truly understood the meaning I smiled like an idiot. As much as I would like to unveil the meaning to all, I would rather that you read the book yourself and see what it entails.

ꗃ﹕❜Cover:9/10

The cover of the book is an illustrative historical painting and again my scepticism didn’t believe that it fit the theme. But the longer I look at, the more I see pieces of the story in the picture. Though I wished that the placement of the font was in the centre because at first glance it looks like a book that has a cover without a title.

ꗃ﹕❜Blurb: 8/10

The blurb was written in a beautiful manner showcasing the two sides of the story but it was too long. As far as I am concerned no one would actually read such a long blurb. If anything the blurb is one of the many keys to attract readers and for it to be excessively long or short can be problematic. I would advise the author to revise the blurb and try to phrase it in such a manner where it is not too long but still captures the two sides of the story.

ꗃ﹕❜Writing: 19/20

The best part of the book was the writing. To some people it may come off as “telling and not showing” but that’s not true. The author seems to know how to write a book that features historical events and they capture the emotion so well. While reading the book you can see that the author has done extensive research on people from that time period.

There are people who lived back in the day and made an impact and the story captures their hardships and work just how well it did with the fictitious characters.

There are barely any inconsistencies and it is as if you are taken back in time to see everything play out right in front of your eyes. The French Revolution has always been a nice theme and with the spark of intrigue and mystery in our character and their thirst for revolution—it was all done well. I can go on and on about how I loved reading it and how I will read it again if I ever get the chance but there were a few inconsistencies in the punctuation at places.

And when the book is so well written even the slightest of mistakes are marks for deduction.

ꗃ﹕❜Characters: 20/20

The characters were the—best. I loved our main character Edith and the fact that you captured her free and wild spirit so well and beautifully. The author did justice to her character and I loved it. Then comes Andre, the painter who later becomes a revolutionary and he is the one with the mysterious spark to him. To be honest I am not a huge fan of stories where authors display young girls getting intrigued by a man older than them ( Edith is 9 when she first meets Andre who is 16 ) and again I was sceptical that the author would do a good job in displaying them in their childhood differently than when they become adults. But, the author proved me wrong.

Andre and Edith’s relationship is simply pure. When she was young it was more of a mentor-student relationship and when they grow up it is something entirely different. The side characters such as Edith’s sister, Philippe, Rafael and everyone else were also very well done. They felt main characters in their own right instead of supporting and I loved them all so much.

ꗃ﹕❜Pace and Conflict: 20/20

Perfect, perfect, perfect.

The pacing of the book, the skips in timeline and the hand in hand story of Edith and Fiona were all so well. The author captured the spirit of the French Revolution and its impact and the way the story unfolded was very enjoyable indeed. This review might come as a sugar coat but the thing is I have rarely read a book like this on Wattpad for so long and the fact that I devoured every last bit of it stands to prove my point that it is a good book and it should be read by more people.

ꗃ﹕❜ Enjoyment: 10/10

This book was a full roller coaster and I enjoyed reading it. From the events to the characters to the beautifully curated description and dialogues, everything was so well done. There were a minor inconsistencies here and there but if we overlook them this book has the potential to be one of the best books out there which captures the true essence of the French Revolution.

The images before every chapter—and that too from the time period -- was the perfect thing to complete every chapter and set up the narrative of the story even though the author would do it with their exquisite writing.
