"Papa!" Little Diana's voice echoes through the room.
"Where's my little princess? Where's my little princess, there she is!" Harry coos as he surprises her by picking her up from behind. She squeals in delight before putting her hands around his neck.
"Where's Dada? Me and sissy wanna ask you both something." She says.
"He must be in the garden darling, let us go see shall we?" He says.
"No need for that love, your sissy here found me already." Louis said as their 13-year-old followed from behind.
"Sit down both of you." Joanne said. They both comply, sitting down on the sofa, Diana on Joanne's lap.
"So what did you girls want to ask us?" Louis asked.
"We wanna know how you both met!" Diana said excitedly.
They smile at each other.
"We met in the most cliché way possible," Louis says.
"Like a Disney movie," Harry says as they both smile at the memory.
The grand annual masquerade ball. Where Prince and Princess's from esteemed houses would arrive.
Louis sighed as he got up from the dressing table and took the mask from the handmaid. He hated the ball.
Why you ask?
He wasn't invested in the female species. He was admired by all but no one had his eye. He sighed again and took a last look at the mirror before heading out.
The place was decked in drapes of violet, gold and silver. He watched from the balcony as his sisters made their way down.
"Louis!" His mum gestured him to come down.
Louis nodded and began to descend the grand staircase until he was met with a sight of a lifetime.
"It was like a million sparks flew when our eyes met." Harry says dreamily.
"Magic!" Diana giggles.
"As sappy as that sounds, it was really magical." Louis smiles.
Decked in a pink and gold suit, a golden mask covered his eyes which bore into his, stood a man who took Louis' breath away.
Brown locks that hung above his shoulders, the colour of the suit complimenting his pale complexion, his cheeks rosy and mouth slightly agape as he stared back a Louis.
Feathery brown hair, a black and gold suit that hugged his figure perfectly, a sleek black mask hiding his eyes, Harry was taken aback by the beauty that was descending the stairs.
Louis slowly moved down the stairs as he heard the music begin to play. He walked to the unnamed beauty in hopes of winning his heart.
Harry too began to walk towards him, but tripped on the carpet as he did do but Louis caught him in time.
"Oops!" Harry says, looking at his husband.
"Hi," Louis replies fondly.
And green met blue.
"May I have this dance?" Louis asked with an outstretched hand, forgetting everyone and everything. Or the fact that no one knew he way gay.
"You may," Harry said as Louis took his gloved hand in his.
Harry's hand settled on Louis' shoulder while Louis' hand on Harry's waist as they moved in sync with the music trying their best not to step on eachother's feet while losing themselves in eachother's eyes.
The song ended but they didn't let go of each other.
"Louis." Louis spoke.
"Harry."
"How charming," Louis spoke and Harry blushed but smiled at him, his dimple popping.
"I really want to get rid of my mask now," Louis spoke.
Harry let out a small gasp.
It was a tradition of the household, to take the mask off in the masquerade when you believe you've found the right partner.
The mask represented a façade. An exterior personality that everyone saw. Taking off the mask, meant you were now an open book to that person. You let your guard down for the other to see. You knew you could give them the chance to actually know you.
And Louis was known, for never taking off his mask.
Louis took off his mask and handed it to Harry.
He took Harry's hand his again and pressed a soft kiss on the back, before looping them together. Something in them told them, this wouldn't be a mere step.
"And kids, that's how I met your dad." Harry finishes giggling.
"Wow," Diana says in an awestruck voice.
"The prince and the prince," Joanne smiles.
"Lived happily ever after," Diana giggles.
They look down at their intertwined fingers and smile at each other, and then at their daughters.
It was really a happily ever after.
