Fear.

This was an idea by kierstin251 I hope it's okay

Also I know nothing about F1 stuff so there's probably wrong things in here but I've done my best with the research.

HELLO🥰😘: Two years ago I started this book. And I cannot believe the people I've been able to meet and talk to because of it. I love all of you and the fact you still read these makes my day. When I look back at my first few oneshots I used to cringe but I've learnt that it just shows my writing get better as I went on and that makes me believe that the more i do - the better I will keep becoming.

THANK YOU all endlessly it means so much. I want this chapter to have an insane amount of comments, just comment anything wherever. In commemoration of two years  :)

Enjoy :)

3rd person P.O.V

Louis has been a Formula One racer for as long as Harry can remember. They met when they were still quite young, Louis was twenty and been signed to Red Bull Racing and was out celebrating with his friends when he accidentally spilt his drink over someone at the bar.

Harry had just turned eighteen and was out having drinks with his own friends when a stranger poured around three beers all over him. He was expecting to look up and see some old guy who would ignore what they'd done but no.

He looked up and saw a young, blue eyed boy who was already apologising profusely and stuttering about napkins.

Since that day they'd formed a friendship, then eventually a relationship.

Louis asked Harry on a date when Harry turned nineteen, and he himself had just won a championship. Now at ages twenty-nine and twenty-seven, they had moved in together, gotten married and adopted two dogs.

Harry was endlessly supportive of Louis' career but he couldn't deny seeing the person he loved drive hundreds of miles per hour around a track, recklessly turning corners and overtaking other cars wasn't scary. He'd always had a fear Louis would crash.

There had been times where Louis' car would spin off the track or he'd get bumped slightly by someone else but nothing major.

Still, even though he'd been a racer for nine years Harry's fear was still just as bad.

Currently Harry was watching as Louis prepped for another round of the Grand Prix, they were in their hometown which was nice because then all of their families could come and watch.

Louis was talking to one of the mechanics who was fixing a tire on his car, pointing at things and then laughing and Harry couldn't help smiling as he watched. Louis was always so in his element when he was around the crew in the garage, talking and looking at his car.

He was already dressed in his race suit, the red colour standing out as he grazed his hand along the hood of his car. He said one last thing to the mechanic before his eyes slid over to where Harry was and he started walking closer.

"Hey babe, you okay?" He asked immediately, placing his hands on Harry's waist. "You look a bit pale."

"I'm fine. Just nervous for you." Harry replied with a small smile.

"Don't be. I'll be fine." He smirked before saying, "I'm a fantastic driver." Then his face softened and he placed one of his ungloved hands on Harry's cheek. "Seriously though, H, I'm going to be fine. You've watched me do this a million times."

Harry sighed, turning his cheek into Louis' palm. "I know. It's just scary to watch."

Louis nodded in understanding before leaning closer and pressing his lips to Harry's. "I need to go, but I'll see you after okay?"

"Yeah, I'll be waiting." Harry smiled and kissed his husband once more before he was walking back to the garage as one of his managers came out.

Harry waited until he was out of sight before walking off to where the rest of their families were sat waiting for the race to start. Normally Harry stayed in the pit row to be closer but because their family were sat in the Grandstand with VIP tickets he decided to go sit with them.

"How was Louis?" Gemma asked the minute Harry sat down.

"Confident, like always." Harry laughed a little, looking out to the track that was about to be filled with cars.

"He should be, he's damn good." Gemma patted Harry's back, knowing about his fear. "He's defensive when he drives, no one out there in their right mind would try to overtake him and risk crashing."

"Someone will be stupid enough one day." Harry mumbled.

"Maybe. But not today. So just enjoy watching your annoyingly hot husband drive like a madman and win."

Harry just let out a breathy laugh and shook his head at his sisters words.

The two hour race breezed past. Louis had taken off in first place like usual and drove swiftly around the track, he held distance from the other racers to avoid collisions, and it was pretty much just a battle between two other racers for second and third place.

Just like Gemma said Louis drove defensively, keeping his turns tight and falling in the middle so other racers were unable to pass him.

Lap after lap Louis kept in first. There was a moment on lap 53 where Delmarco managed to get himself into first place but was overtaken by Louis again three laps later.

Louis came in first place by the end of the race and Harry couldn't be prouder of him, their families began making their way down to the pit where they could meet Louis once he was out of the car.

They were all waiting as Louis shook hands with someone and pulled his helmet off his head, his hair was sweaty, and you could see the sheen of it on his face too. He held the helmet in his hand for a moment while he was talking to a news reporter and then pointed over to his family and said one last thing before stepping away.

His sisters and brother ran up to him first and he got rid of his helmet to hug them properly. Harry smiled when he heard their squeal about how sweaty he was. Eventually he made his way over to the rest of the family and hugged them individually until reaching Harry where a smile took over his face and he wrapped his arms around him.

"You were amazing. Well done, Lou." Harry whispered into his ear, hugging him tighter despite how sweaty Louis was.

"Thanks, baby. It's all you, always do better when you're here." Louis replied making Harry laugh softly as he pulled back and kissed his husband.

He spoke with his sisters, keeping his arm around Harry's waist, for a little longer before he was leaving to his private suite to go get changed and clean up.

~

Once Louis was able to get away from the track and go back to the hotel he and Harry were staying in, he changed into some fancier clothes as they were all going to dinner.

Louis was laying on the bed waiting for Harry to pick what outfit to wear. "Cmon, H, we need to leave soon." Louis laughed as he watched his husband try on yet another shirt.

"Then help me." Harry whined turning around to face Louis who sat up. "This one? Or the light blue one I had on earlier?"

"That one." Louis answered, pointing to the shirt he was wearing.

"Are you just saying that so I won't get changed again? Or do you actually like this one more?"

Louis laughed and shook his head with amusement written all over his face. "I actually like that one more."

Harry didn't seem convinced. "Let me just try on the other one again and then you can decide." He was about to walk away to grab the discarded blue shit but Louis reached out and grabbed ahold of his wrist.

"Stop. You look beautiful. You don't need to try on another shirt." He said softly, his thumb rubbing circles on Harry's wrist bone. "Your outfit is perfect. Okay? So stop worrying, and let's go to dinner because I'm starving."

Harry was quiet for a minute, staring at Louis' hand holding his wrist before he looked up into blue eyes and said, "Okay. Let's go."

Before he could move Louis smiled and tugged him forward, so they fell back onto the bed together with smiles on their faces. "You're so pretty, do you know that?" Louis mumbled as his lips kissed along Harry's jaw, his arms winding around his waist. "The prettiest."

"Why are you so mushy today?" Harry teased, turning his head to the side to give his husband more room to kiss down his neck. "Not that I don't like it."

"Just missed you." Louis responded, sucking a hickey into his pale skin. "I don't get to see you a lot during the season. Even though you're here I'm too busy racing and training to actually spend time with you."

"I missed you too." Harry ran his hands through Louis' hair, looking into his eyes with a love-filled expression. "But it's your career and I love watching you race so I understand why you're busy. And I support you all the way. You know this."

"I know." Louis sighed, leaning away from the lovebite he made just under the collar of Harry's shirt. "Just wish it didn't mean I had to travel so much."

Harry shrugged with a small smile on his face. "You get to do something amazing that you're incredible at, travelling is just something that comes with it."

Louis didn't say anything, just continued staring into his husbands eyes for a little longer before he sighed and sat up. "Cmon then, we should go."

They both got off the bed and grabbed their shoes before leaving the hotel room, heading down to the lobby. Jay saw them first and quickly walked over, pulling Louis into her arms. "You did great, Lou. Well done."

"Thanks mum." Louis hugged her back as the others walked over.

"What took you guys so long? We've been waiting for ages." Lottie complained as she went to hug her brother.

Gemma hugged Harry, but paused looking at his neck. "I think I know." She teased pointing at the lovebite on Harry's neck before he laughed and pushed her away.

Louis just shrugged with a smug grin on his face, not seeming bothered at all. "Seriously guys? I'm hungry." Lottie groaned, understanding what Gemma was insinuating.

"You could have left already, we would have met you there." Louis responded, hugging his sister tighter and she grumbled.

They continued the argument all the way to the restaurant and only stopped when they were being seated at a large table.

Everyone congratulated Louis on his win, they asked about other racers how he felt about them. They then talked about planning a holiday all together when Louis was free from racing.

At one point Gemma brought up how nervous Harry was and Harry felt Louis' hand fall on top of his thigh, just resting there as he listened to Gemma talk.

Harry managed to get them to change the subject to something else and was then able to clock out of the conversation and just focus on the feeling of Louis' warm hand on his leg and the sensation of his fingers rubbing circles ever so gently.

"Do you have a race tomorrow?" Gemma asked Louis as everyone got their drinks placed on the table.

Louis thanked the waiter, taking his drink, before looking to Gemma and nodding. "Yeah, just after 2pm."

"Good luck then, if I knew I would have asked my boss for an extra day off."

Louis shook his head as he placed an arm on the back of Harry's chair. "Don't worry about it. Plus you came today."

Harry turned to look at Louis as the two continued their conversation, and he just admired him. He watched the skin next to his eyes crinkle as he smiled wider and had an urge to reach out and run his hand along the slight scruff Louis had on his cheeks.

Of course he didn't, their families were sat right there and he'd probably look rather weird just reaching out to feel his husbands face.

Instead he tapped his fingers against his trousers and somewhat listened to the conversations going on around him. He wasn't much of a talker in these situations, more of an observer. Louis however was the talker. Maybe that's why they worked so well together, when Harry didn't want to talk he didn't have to worry because he had Louis to speak for both of them.

Eventually they got their food and the conversations died down, everyone more interested in eating their meals than asking about someone's day. Harry was about to eat his own food when he felt Louis' hand gently press against the side of his thigh.

He turned to look at him with questioning eyes, and Louis leaned closer so they wouldn't be overheard by the whole table. "Are you okay?" Harry nodded. "You sure?"

"I'm fine, Lou." Harry whispered giving his husband a small smile to reassure him.

Louis removed his hand from Harry's thigh as he said, "We'll leave right after this, okay? Spend some time with just the two of us or I can run you a bath and leave you on your own," then turned back to his food as if what he said hadn't melted every inch of Harry's soul.

The fact that Louis could just understand that Harry's social battery had run out without him even having to say so, meant so much more than he could ever say. Sometimes he just needed to be by himself, or with his boyfriend. And Louis got that.

As Harry started to eat his food thoughts began running through his head - about how lucky he was. To have someone who could find him blindfolded, to have someone who could tell how you felt just by looking at you, to have someone who knew you so goddamn well that words weren't needed.

They all finished eating and were debating on getting dessert when Louis spoke up saying he and Harry needed to get back to their hotel so the others then decided if the couple leaving then they could get dessert from somewhere else.

So they got the bill, paid for their meals and all started getting up.

Only Harry was staying for Louis' race the next day, everyone else was driving or, in Gemma's sake, flying home.

They all hugged each other goodbye with promises to call the next day and then Louis grabbed Harry's hand and pulled him away from the chaos.

Louis didn't make conversation on the way home, figuring Harry just wanted to think, and instead spoke by gently stroking his thumb over the back of Harry's hand in soft languid movements.

The younger lad appreciated it, he was tired and didn't have anything of importance to say. So staying quiet with the feeling of his husbands hand in his was much better.

It was only when they were in the elevator heading up to their floor that Louis opened his mouth to speak. "Do you want a bath when we get in? Or do you just want to lay down and watch something?"

Harry thought for a moment, his head tilting back slightly as his foot gently tapped against the floor to the hushed music playing through the speakers. "I think I'll have a bath." He said finally.

Louis nodded, "I'll fill up the bath when we get in, and you can find your clothes you want and sort anything else out."

Harry had known Louis long enough to know that if he even tried to protest it wouldn't matter, Louis would do it anyway. He was very much a man who showed his love by doing acts of service.

When they reached their room Harry went straight to his suitcase and starting looking for the clothes he wanted to wear as Louis walked into the bathroom and the sound of water soon followed.

It only took a few minutes and in that time Louis had found a candle to light and placed it on the corner of the bath and brought his laptop in so Harry could watch something while he was in there.

Harry reached out to wrap his fingers around Louis' wrist before the man could leave the room and smiled at him. A smile that was only small yet told Louis all he needed to know. Louis nodded, his head barely moving as he did so, before leaning in to place a small kiss under Harry's chin.

Then he exited the bathroom and closed the door behind him, leaving Harry alone in the room.

Harry laid in the bath watching a show on Netflix, allowing the water to soothe over his skin, feeling all the tension and worries from the day seep out of him.

He wasn't sure how long he'd been laying there, not too long he thought but long enough to miss Louis and realise he wanted to go lie with him. So he gave himself five more minutes before he was rising out of the warm water and reaching for the towel his husband left out.

He dried his hair as best he could be bothered to do and dried his body before slipping into his clean clothes that he thought was one of the best feelings. He managed to remember to grab Louis' laptop before leaving the bathroom and heading into the main area of their room.

He immediately saw Louis laying on the bed under the duvet with his phone in his hand, illuminating his face. Harry placed the laptop down on the desk causing Louis to look up from his phone and smile when he saw Harry.

He put his phone down on the bedside table and focused all his attention on the tired man in front of him. "How are you feeling?"

Harry didn't answer. Instead he moved towards the bed and Louis seemed to understand - like he always did - and opened his arms just in time for Harry to then climb onto the bed and wrap his limbs around him.

He placed his head in Louis' neck and let out a quiet sigh as hands started to run up and down his back in smooth motions.

"Thank you." Harry whispered into the darkness of the room as his arms tightened on Louis' frame under him. He tried to move closer but they were already pressed skin-to-skin so the maneuverer was pointless.

"For what, love?" Louis asked, gently scraping his fingernails up to the back of Harry's neck.

"Everything," Louis didn't speak, he waited for Harry to continue. "You always know what I need. And you always give it to me. Thank you."

Louis carefully shook his head. "You don't need to thank me for that. I like caring for you, H." He turned his head to the side and kissed the top of Harry's head. "I love you."

"I love you too." Harry said as he lifted his head to press his lips against Louis' cheekbone.

Louis' fingers threaded into Harry's hair as he smiled at the younger man. "Go to sleep, love."

And with Louis' fingers playing with his hair, and a mumbled voice in his ear, Harry did.

~

Louis woke up early as he had training and preparations for the race later so he left a note for Harry incase the man woke up while he was gone.

Somehow he'd managed to pry himself from his husbands grip without making him stir. He then managed to successfully get himself ready and have a shower.

He got back to the room at just past 10am and Harry was still fast asleep so with a smile he ordered room service and then walked over to the bed.

Brown curls were a mess against the white pillows of the bed and Harry's face was pressed into the cotton of it. Louis took a moment to watch the rise and fall of his chest, the slow breaths he took and ultimately how peaceful he looked.

He reached his hand out to tangle it in Harry's hair, leaning his head down to kiss Harry's lips once. "Wake up, baby." He whispered, running his other hand down Harry's arm that wasn't tucked under the duvet.

He continued to murmur things in the man's ear, with his hand on his arm until green eyes were blearily looking back at him. "Good morning." Louis smiled and leaned in to kiss him once again making Harry kiss back lazily.

"Morning." Harry's voice was deep and sometimes it shocked Louis just how deep and gruff it sounded in the morning.

"I ordered breakfast." Louis told him as he sat down on the edge of the bed, still playing with Harry's hair. "It should be here soon."

Harry nodded, his eyes closing a little before he forced them open again.

"You're so beautiful." Louis whispered as his hand on Harry's arm moved to cup his cheek, his thumb rubbing along his cheekbone. "Pretty."

Harry smiled up at him, his eyes shining in the light. His fingers came up to hold onto Louis' wrist, just because he wanted to touch him.

Louis got up when their food arrived and Harry ended up sitting up and they ate their food on the bed, talking about when they'd have to leave to head down to the track and how practice went earlier that morning.

After their breakfast Louis waited while Harry got changed and packed up his stuff as they were leaving to go back home later tonight. Even though Louis would end up flying a few days later to continue the prix while Harry got back to work.

They had around an hour and a half to kill before they needed to go so they decided on a walk around where their hotel was as it was practically next to the track. They walked hand in hand around, looking in shops and trying not to buy anything unnecessary.

Dark clouds came over, hiding the sun and causing everything to turn a gloomy grey. Harry decided not to focus on it when Louis pulled him towards a bookstore.

They didn't speak about the race later on because Harry would only get nervous and Louis wanted to keep him as calm as possible, he knew how to deal with it after years being together but it still hurt him to see his better half so worried for him.

No matter what he said to Harry the lad would always be anxious. So all he could do was be there and reassure him and distract him so he could enjoy the few hours before Louis would get into his car.

~

It was raining. Which was not ideal for the track but the race would still go on. Harry was slightly more nervous than before because of the added risk but he's seen Louis race in rain before.

There was sixty one laps for todays race and Louis was starting in first due to his win the day before. The drivers were currently all speaking to their engineers about how to handle the surprise conditions and talking strategies.

Then once the crew gave the all clear for the cars, the drivers dispersed into different areas of the garage. Louis trailed his way over to Harry and kissed him the moment he was in reach.

"I can practically see the worry rolling off of you." He whispered, hugging his husband to his race suit. "The rain isn't even that bad."

"I still think it's dangerous." Harry mumbled, his eyes cast down at the ground.

"They wouldn't allow us to drive if it was seriously unsafe, love." Louis placed a hand on Harry's cheek. "It's only the normal risks. The usual." He shrugged making Harry huff out a silent laugh.

But the amusement was quickly wiped away when all drivers were called back to the garage to get ready. "Just please be careful out there."

"I will. I always am." Louis answered before pressing a final kiss to Harry's lips then walking away to get into his car.

Due to how long Harry had been watching Louis race he had become quite well acquainted with higher members of Red Bull Racing and now for some races he was allowed to sit with the radio guys and listen with the headphones to what's going on. He watched through the screens most of the time, only sometimes looking out the big window that looks over the track.

The first part of the race was rather uneventful, you could see a few cars skidding along the wet pavement as they drove which caused Harry's heart rate to pick up but aside from that nothing went wrong.

However by lap 34 one of the other racers turned rapidly and due to the slick of the roads he couldn't keep control of his car and crashed into the barrier. The racer was perfectly fine and the car wasn't badly damaged but you could see the disappointment on his face as he got out the car and started walking off the track to the safety car as the rest of the cars whizzed past.

Louis and another driver Alejandro fought for the first place spot, they were pulling risky moves to keep in front and trying to get passed one another.

Harry could hear Louis' manager speaking through the headset, telling Louis what to do and to watch out for specific things.

For a moment it looks like Alejandro was going to back off as his front bumper neared the rear of Louis' car. And Harry was anxiously biting his nails as he listened to the sound of the tires through the live feed and the murmur of voices.

And suddenly there was a screeching sound of rubber and Louis' manager yells something into the radio but it's so rushed Harry can't seem to make it out.

Alejandro's front wing and tire clip the the side of Louis' car.

Harry's heart drops so fast and he isn't sure wether he's even breathing or not anymore, blood is pumping so loudly in his ears he can't really hear anything either.

He watched as Louis' car flipped onto its side on the concrete and then continued to roll multiple times along the track.

Gasps could be heard from the crowd and hurried voices were trying to get in contact with Louis through the headset. His car dragged along the wet ground before slamming into the barrier at a speed of around 175 mph.

The tires were still spinning even though the car was completely smashed from where it was lying still and Harry had tears forming in his eyes as he stared at the screen.

To make matters worse, Louis wasn't responding to the radio calls either and the more questions that go unanswered caused wetness to streak down Harry's cheeks.

Smoke was billowing and there were flames dancing around the red car.

Still silence.

Harry was hearing the commotion of everyone he was sat with and he couldn't stop the tears from falling as he was forced to sit in a chair due to his legs feeling too weak to stand.

Suddenly through the rush of yelling voices there's a familiar one Harry hears.

"Fuck, there's a fire in the car!" Even though it's not exactly good news on Louis' end it gives Harry relief that he isn't passed out or even worse. "There's so much fucking smoke and I can't move, it's getting hard to breathe in here!"

His manager tried to keep him calm and mentioned the safety team are on their way and that they'll get him out safely.

"They better hurry the fuck up, Martin, I think my suit is on fire!" The suits they wear were fire protectant for the most part but if he's directly exposed to the flame it won't protect him for long enough.

Harry was biting his lip anxiously as someone asks Louis if he has any injuries.

"Fuck-" Harsh coughs came through the headset, "I-I don't know. I'm-Maybe? I think I'm bleeding, and I can't feel my right leg, it's-it's trapped or something!"

Harry's chest constricted at the panic in Louis' voice and it was painful to not be able to do anything but watch, he can't help. It's killing him to hear his husbands voice laced with fear and not be able to do anything.

The safety team finally arrived after what felt like hours but probably only a minute at most, and started putting out the fire that was rapidly increasing around Louis' car.

They got control of the flames quickly as Harry ignored the commentators speaking around him. They began to dislodge the car from its place against the barrier.

And Harry couldn't help but let out a sob at the sound of Louis' voice pleading for them to get him out. It's almost like a cruel punishment, having to listen to him beg to be helped and he knows this must feel like hours to Louis.

Harry managed to take a deep breath in when the crane lifted his car from the track and Louis pulled himself out from under scraps of metal with the help of the crew.

And Harry doesn't think he'll ever get that image out of his head. He's never seen a crash this bad before. Louis' only ever had minor ones that don't even cause injuries. But this... this is something much worse.

He watched as Louis clawed at his helmet before finally throwing it to the floor and taking lungfuls of air like he was starved of it, his body dropping to the floor as he tried to breathe through coughs.

Harry wanted nothing more than to hold him, seeing him so hurt and vulnerable with no privacy as the cameras kept rolling.

But Harry couldn't feel relief yet as the safety team checked him out and then called the signal for medical attention.

They got him off the track without jostling him too much and he was transported to the medical centre at the circuit as it's just as equipped as a hospital or ER.

Harry doesn't waste any time in pulling his headphones off and running towards the medical centre with tears still streaming down his face.

When he pushed open the door and went over to where doctors are fussing over Louis he couldn't help but let another sob out through his lips before he clamped his hand over his mouth.

The side of his suit was burned, and his face was covered in a streak of blood from a cut at his hairline, his hands were covered in blood and bruises. They were cutting his suit off to get access to his leg which doesn't look quite right from where Harry's standing.

He waits with tears staining his face as Louis laid there with his eyes closed, his face contorting in pain every now and again.

Slowly doctors started to slow down once they come to conclusions about Louis' injuries. And he's left with only two doctors at his side who are about to say something to him when he stops them.

Blue eyes lock onto Harry's body in the corner of the room and despite the situation the corner of his mouth pulls into a small smile. "Hold on," he waited for the doctors to step to the side and says, "I need to see my boy."

Harry instantly went towards him and took Louis' hand in his, being weary of any cuts. He kissed the back of his hand as tears dropped onto his skin. "God, I was so worried about you." Harry whispered. "Are you okay?"

"I'll be fine. Just a little accident." Somehow he's still able to joke when Harry can't even bring it in himself to smile. He kissed Louis' hand once more before turning to the doctors.

"Is he okay?"

The female doctor stepped forward and nods. "He'll be okay. We still want to do a CT scan in order to make sure he hasn't sustained any brain injuries that we haven't picked up on yet. But so far he looks good. However he has a broken right leg that will need surgery before going into a cast. He has a few cuts over his body, some that have already been stitched others will heal without it. But your husband is, believe it or not, extremely lucky. We still want to double check his lungs to make sure the smoke hasn't damaged them."

Harry nodded, holding tight onto Louis' hand. "But he'll be okay. Right?"

"Yes, as far as I'm aware there is no reason your husband won't fully regain all movement he had before once his leg is healed and good news is his lungs and eyes are responding well to tests. We just need to take standard protocol to ensure he is fully okay."

Harry nodded and kissed Louis' forehead once before they were wheeling him away in the hospital bed towards the CT room.

Harry slumped his body back into the chair and let out a deep breath, running his hand over his face as the tears finally stopped.

His phone was bombarded by calls from family members. While he waited for Louis to be done with all his tests and then go into surgery he caught them up to date on what's wrong and any other details they asked for.

Two hours later Harry was lead by a nurse to Louis' new room he was in. He was lying in the hospital bed with a cast from his knee to his toes and it was sat on top of the sheets.

"We're going to keep him for a little longer to keep an eye on his injuries and make sure he rests as this soon after the accident rest is important. But he has sustained no head injuries, and his lungs sound perfect. His leg should heal normally and he'll need checkup a in three weeks to make sure it's still healing correctly. But there should be no reason he doesn't get back to full movement in six-eight weeks. We've stitched all open wounds he had and cleaned and plastered the minor ones." The nurse filled Harry in on the information as he looked at his sleeping husband.

The nurse left the room once she handed Harry some prescription drugs for Louis and saying she'll get in contact with a doctor they have in the nearby hospital to book an appointment for three weeks time.

He sat down in the chair next to the bed and ran a hand over his face, never before has he felt so afraid. If Louis had been anymore hurt, Harry doesn't know what he would have done. He figures he should be glad Louis is okay and it's only minor injuries but he still cant look at Louis' bruised face without wanting to cry again.

The cut at his hairline has been stitched now and just looked a little purple around it but they've cleaned the blood off his face and hands so it looks less like a graphic murder.

Harry spends the time Louis is asleep to give the final updates to family and book their hotel for a few more nights figuring they'd have to delay going home for a little longer.

Louis' manager and other teammates had been up to see how he was doing as the race had ended and Harry had informed them of what was going on. Clearly Louis wouldn't be racing the rest of the Prix so his manager said to leave it a little while before getting Louis to contact him and discuss what will happen next.

Finally, almost three hours after Louis got out from surgery he started to wake up. He had been a little groggy when Harry had first entered and quickly fallen asleep until now.

Harry was half asleep from where he was sitting in the chair but jolted awake when he heard the sheets rustling beside him.

Slowly Louis' eyes blinked open and his squinted against the bright lights in the room, trying to adjust.

"How you feelin'?" Harry asked trying to keep his voice steady as Louis slowly turned his head towards him and a lazy smile covered his face.

"Hi."

"Hi, Lou." Harry couldn't help but let a small smile onto his face at the sight of his husband clearly on too many pain meds to feel much. He repeated his question which had Louis glancing down to his cast.

"Currently it looks worse than it feels." He mumbled, his words still a little sluggish with sleep. "How are you?"

Harry almost laughed. "You're the one in the hospital bed."

"Yeah. But you saw everything so it doesn't mean that you don't get to be sad and in need of someone asking if you're okay." Louis suddenly looked very serious as he kept his eyes on Harry.

"I'm fine." Harry replied as he reached over and gently entwined his hand with Louis'. "It was just scary is all. And a bit of a shock."

Louis nodded, his hand holding tightly onto Harry's. "Well I'm okay. Look at me." He gestured to his leg. "A few broken bones but overall I think I got lucky."

"The doctor said that too."

"And you should always listen to your doctor, love."

"Technically, she's your doctor."

"Shut up. It still means the same thing." Louis glared at Harry's amused face. "And we're married. We share everything so... really my doctors your doctor."

Harry nodded with a hidden smile as he leant over and ran his fingers through the front of Louis' hair. "Are you tired?" His smile slipped a little when he saw the stitched up cut again.

"No. A little drowsy maybe but not enough to need to sleep right now." He paused and relaxed more into the bed. "I wanna talk to you."

Harry continued to run his hands through Louis' hair, careful not to jostle him too much. "Your mum called when you were in surgery. I told her all I knew at the time but you might wanna call her later."

Louis nodded as he looked down at his hand in Harry's. "How long have I gotta stay here?"

"I don't think overnight but they want to keep you here for a few hours at least. So we might be able to leave later in the evening." Harry informed him as he continued to look at their hands, where he was now using the back of Harry's hand as a canvas to draw shapes with his thumb.

He was silent for a moment, his mind seeming to drift and Harry noticed it immediately. "Hey," he said quietly, getting Louis' attention back on him and away from whatever was plaguing his mind, "do you wanna talk about it?"

Louis stopped for a moment. Thinking. Then he shrugged slightly.

"Lou, if it was scary for me, it had to have been terrifying for you. So if you wanna talk about it, I'm right here." Harry moved his chair closer to the bed when Louis looked away again.

"Can you come here?" His small voice asked and it was so unusual for Harry to hear him like this he wasted no time in getting into the gap Louis had left him on the bed.

He avoided his broken leg and managed to lay himself down next to his husband who laid his head down on his chest. "It was terrifying." His voice startled Harry slightly as he figured he wasn't going to talk about it.

He knew that Louis' jokey demeanour earlier was to cover up how much the situation had rattled him. He'd never had a crash like that in his entire career.

Harry stayed silent, waiting for Louis to continue. "At first I didn't even know what was happening, the car was just rolling and I didn't think it would ever stop. I was yelling into the headset but I don't think it was working at first. No one respond. And for the first time on a track... I was scared."

Harry swallowed as he laid his arm over Louis' side. Hearing the story from his point of view was worse.

"I couldn't even get the door open because of the barrier, and my leg was... I don't know but it hurt so I didn't really want to try and move too much. But then I noticed the fire behind me and I just went into panic mode. I was yelling and yelling and finally I heard Martins voice and it felt like relief despite still being trapped. It felt like hours I was there. Then they got me out and all I could do was breathe in the air that wasn't tainted with smoke. I couldn't even answer their questions because I was still trying to wrap my head around what the fuck had just happened."

Harry leaned his forehead against Louis' and felt his husband move closer to him in the small bed.

"Then I thought about you. And how you'd just seen all that and I only wanted to get to you at that point." Louis added in a quiet voice. "I knew going into this career that getting into a crash would happen but one of that size you can never prepare for." Harry leant his head back to see a few tears on Louis' cheek and that shattered his entire being.

"But you're okay." Harry whispered, wiping away the tears as best he could in their position. "You're okay now. You're not there, you're not trapped. You're here with me and you're going to be okay."

Louis nodded, sniffing as a few tears fell from Harry's eyes too. "It was just scary. But I'll be okay, I still love what I do believe it or not, it just stunned me at first because it's never happened."

"And that's completely fine." Harry added. "It's completely okay to be afraid or even worried about it. It would be strange if you didn't. And you know your skills better than anyone. This was just an unfortunate accident."

"I'm glad you're here." Louis whispered, laying his head back in Harry's chest.

"I wouldn't be anywhere else."

Louis was able to leave at just before 10 pm that night and he had to use crutches to leave but luckily he already knew how to use them due to breaking his foot when he was younger.

Harry then got a taxi to drive them back to their hotel and then helped Louis up to their room before ordering some food because they were starving.

They had talked a little more about their accident a few hours ago, mainly about if Louis would want to race again and he'd said with complete conviction that yes, he did.

Louis had then asked Harry if he was okay with it to which Harry responded saying that whatever he wanted to do Harry would be there to support him even if it scared him to death he would be there to watch.

The tears had stopped a while ago which was good and Louis had taken some more of his medicine to help with the pain just before they left the hospital.

Now they were both lying on the hotel bed watching a random show that was playing on the tv and Harry was drawing patterns on Louis' bare chest, not really paying much attention to anything else.

He had kept asking if Louis' was okay which his husband reassured him he was and then laughed when Harry had went on a long ramble about wanting to help in some way.

Louis had his arm resting behind Harry's head, his hand in his hair as his eyes watched the tv. "What a day. Huh, love." He laughed slightly when the adverts came on screen.

Harry looked away from his imaginary artwork and blinked up at Louis. "That seems like an understatement. This one day has felt like a week."

Louis hummed in agreement, twisting one of Harry's curls around his finger.

"Are you okay?" Harry asked after a moment, stopping his drawings and instead letting his hand rest of his husbands hip.

Louis looked over at him, admired the beauty in his green eyes before saying. "I'm very much okay." He smiled. "Are you okay?"

Harry grinned at him. "I'm okay."

Louis nodded before leaning over and pressing his lips to Harry's, immediately getting a reaction out of him. They didn't let it get too far seeing as an hour ago they were in hospital room.

They ended up falling asleep together a few minutes later to the credits of the show only Louis had been watching and the lights reflected the peaceful smiles on both their faces.

They ended up staying in the hotel an extra four days before they then made the drive back home to which Louis ended up calling his manager and talking about what to do next.

After seven weeks Louis' cast was able to come off and he started physical therapy to strengthen the muscles again.

Then after a few months he had full movement back in his leg and was thinking about getting back in a race car. Not to actually race yet but just to handle an anxiety he may have getting back into a car and on the track and get used to driving again.

Harry was there whenever he could, if he wasn't working and Louis was down at the circuit he went down to see him and give him any extra confidence he may have. And surprisingly Harry had gotten better dealing with his worries about Louis' racing. It turns out the crash made him realise that the risk is there every time he gets into the car, worrying about it makes no difference to the outcome. He was worried that day, and Louis still crashed. So he'd been learning to do his best to let go of worry and trust that everything will be okay.

Almost a year after Louis' crash he was back in the Grand Prix and more ready than ever.

He walked over to Harry who was waiting to go stand with their families. "Hey," Harry smiled quickly kissing Louis' lips, "good luck. You'll do great."

"Thanks, love." Louis pulled Harry back towards him by the end of his jacket. "I'll come see you straight after okay?"

It was one of his first proper races back and both men were still slightly nervous but trying to ignite it into something else, something better that will drive Louis forward and keep Harry focused.

"I'll be waiting." He went to turn away but stopped and looked at Louis with a sly smile. "Also, there may be a surprise for you if you win." He whispered.

Louis looked at him with eager eyes. "What kind of surprise?"

"You're favourite." Harry said before kissing him once more and turning away with a smile leaving Louis stood their shocked, knowing what it was.

The race began a little while later.

Louis won.

And found out later that night it very much was his favourite surprise.
