Not Feeling Well?
Well, after reading a bunch of sick fics, I decided to try writing one! Now, I'm still on a bit of a writers block, so this chapter is gonna be a bad one, but I just love sick fics so imma try
Peridot's head was pounding and her body was aching. She felt really tired, and like she could barely move. She sneezed and coughed and sniffed, feeling worse every time she did.
Today, Peridot was supposed to spend some time in town with Lapis, Steven, and Connie, but her body just wouldn't let her. She was really excited about it, honestly! But this dreaded feeling kept her from doing anything that morning.
Lapis flew inside the barn, where Peridot lay on a mountain of scratchy hay. "Peridot! Are you ready? Steven and his friend are waiting for us by the..." She trailed off when she saw what state Peridot was in.
The green gem had bags under her eyes, snot running down her nose. She had turned a bit pale and you could see she was in pain.
"Peridot? Are you..."
Peridot groaned and sneezed. "Htttxchoo!" She sniffled and turned on her side, groaning once more.
"Are you feeling well?"
"No..." Peridot said with an even more nasally voice than usual. "I feel bad."
"What do you mean?"
"I feel awful. My head hurts, my body hurts... Everything hurts!" She yelled, followed by another sneeze. "Ittxchoo!"
She sighed and coughed some more.
"Well, if there's something wrong... I can get Steven! I'll be right back!"
"Wait, Lapi--" She went into a coughing fit while Lapis ran to get Steven.
. . .
"So she said she felt awful?"
Lapis nodded. "Yeah, she said everything hurts."
"Hmmmmm!"
Steven, along with his friend, Connie, followed Lapis to the barn after she told them about Peridot. She didn't know why Peri felt so bad, but she knew there was something wrong.
Steven walked over to Peridot and felt her forehead. Both her head and her gem were really hot...
"Hmm..."
Peridot coughed and swatted his hand away. "Don't touch my gem, plea-- hiixtchoo! Hachoo! Htttxchoo! Itxchoo!" A sneeze attack hit her out of nowhere. She groaned loudly, holding her pounding head.
"She's just a little sick! She has a fever. We just need to treat her! I know how to do stuff like this, my dad helps me when I get sick all the time!"
Connie nodded, "Yeah! And I can help!"
"Yeah, Connie can help!"
The two children cheered. Lapis loved how adorable they were. But right now, she had to help Peri.
. . .
"So, one of the first steps to getting better is to get lots of sleep," Connie said, with both hands behind her back.
"Gems don't need to sleep," Lapis pointed out.
"Yes, but in order to get better, you must get some rest! It makes you feel better and healthier! Most of the time!"
"Yeah, what Connie said! Most of the time!"
Peridot's never slept before... I mean, why would she? She didn't actually need sleep. But now, she felt like that's what she needed the most.
She groaned. If it would help the pain, she'd do it. She yawned, "Fine... I'll try sleep..."
After blankets and pillows and other preparations, Peridot was finally ready to rest. "Okay!" Steven clapped, "Now, you just need to close your eyes and relax! Don't think about anything, and soon you'll be fast asleep and slowly healing! Right, Connie?"
"Yup!"
"Okay! Call us if you need anything! We'll be just outside the barn!" Steven and Connie then ran outside. Lapis looked to Peridot, standing in her place. She sighed, and started to head off, until Peridot called her name. "Uh... Lapis... Htxchoo!... Could you stay here with me?"
Lapis smiled and nodded, walking over to where Peridot lay. She sat down and closed her eyes.
"Th-Thank you..." Peridot thanked her.
Lapis responded with another smile. Peridot yawned once more, before rolling her side.
After a few minutes, Lapis decided to check if Peri was ok. She shook the green gem lightly, "Peridot... Peri..."
She was unresponsive. Lapis went to the other side of Peridot's little bed on the barn floor, and sure enough, she was sound asleep. Lapis stood and walked out of the barn, looking back the sleeping gem.
Steven and Connie were playing with Lion... Well, trying to. The pink fluffy creature barely moved an inch, even as Steven waved various cat toys in the animals face.
"Why won't he budge...?" Connie rubbed her chin questioningly.
"I dunno..." Steven did the same.
"Hi," Lapis walked up to the trio, sitting down in the grass next to Lion.
"Hi, Lapis!" Steven greeted. "How's Peridot doing?"
"She fell asleep. I stayed by her side until she did."
"Aw, Lapis, that's really sweet!" Connie awed at the blue gem.
Lapis laughed and blushed. "Well, she wanted me to..."
And maybe Lapis wanted to do it... Because she cared!
. . . (A.K.A. Time Skip; several bowls of soup, wet cloths and long naps later because the author is too lazy to write any of that stuff! ;3)
Peridot was feeling much better. Still felt a bit tired, and still a few sneezes and coughs here and there, but other than that, she was doing fine!
"Well," Steven said, "Peridot should try sleeping one more night, just to keep it safe."
Peridot nodded. It was a stormy night, and Connie was texting her parents to see if she could sleepover just one more night. After a few negotiations, Connie cheered, "YES! I can sleep over one more night!"
"YAY!" Steven screamed. "Now, let's all get ready for bed! Peridot is already ready, so--"
Steven was interrupted by a loud crash of thunder. And Peridot, even though she had already spent so much time on Earth, was still a bit scared of the storms. She latched onto Lapis and sneezed. "Hachoo!"
Steven and Connie back up closer to the back walk of the barn, Lapis doing the same, with Peridot still latched onto her.
Steven and Connie snuggled into their blankets. "Goodnight, Connie. Goodnight, Lapis. "G'night, Peri..." Steven yawned. Everyone said goodnight back.
And, honestly, everybody looked way more relaxed and comfortable than Lapis did, yet Lapis was the first to drift off to sleep.
. . .
Lapis woke a few hours later. It was about midnight, and the storm had stopped. She looked around. Steven and Connie were asleep, Steven having his arms wrapped around Connie protectively.
And Peridot, she fell asleep in Lapis' arms. Luckily, Lapis was sitting up against a wall when she fell asleep, so Peridot didn't have to move. And she still looked adorable as ever.
Lapis stroked Peridot's hair with a small smile. She loved seeing Peridot safe and sound, especially when she was in Lapis' arms. Lapis felt like she could protect Peridot that way.
With the only sound being the quiet chirping of crickets and slight dripping of rain water, Lapis slowly started drifting back off to sleep. Before she did, though, she placed a small kiss on Peridot's forehead, sighing.
"My little Peri..."
Lapis then closed her eyes, listening to the still hum of nature, and fell asleep.
