In English, we just have 7 pronouns, depending on who we're talking to. But in Arabic, there are 12! Why is this?

Arabic has some oddities in its verbiage and pronoun usage. In Arabic, pronouns are broken into singular, dual (two people or things doing the action), and plural. From here, they are broken down, in 2nd and 3rd person, masculine and feminine. So I would use a different pronoun for a girl when saying "you" than I would for a boy!

If this sounds complicated, don't worry. We'll work with it, and with practice/memorization, they'll become second nature.

☆ Singular ☆

I - أنا

He/it - هُوَّ

She - هِيَّ

You (♂️ sing.) - انتَ

You (♀️ sing.) - انتِ

*Note: We'll get to this later, but in certain sentences, personal pronouns are not used.

☆ Dual ☆

We - نَحنُ

You (d.) - أنتُما

They (d.) - هُما

☆ Plural (more than 2) ☆

You (♂️ pl.) - أنتُم

You (♀️ pl.) - أنتُنَّ

They (♂️ pl.) - هُمَ

They (♀️ pl.) - هُنَّ
